Mariners v Fowler FC

Didn't see the game, only got texted the result by two people who said it was even worse than usual.

That a fair assessment??

True. I'm not surprised they were flat. It's still 30 odd degrees now and I ain't running at full pace.

Mrdja was definitely MOM, followed by Heff.

We have so little options in the front third its not funny. Mrdja is the only one facing the ball carrier and showing feet. Countless punts over the top are what's most pissing me off.

Matt Simon needs his ass kicked. Stop whining, stop falling over and just play.

Nice to see Doig back. He does make a difference. I'd keep majority of the starting lineup for confidence reasons and replace Pedj with either Trav or Weemac and drop Simon for whoever.
The lack of off the ball movement is absolutely killing us. Get the ball in midfield, no one moves into space, opposition pressures the ball and we either try a trusty old long ball or lose possession.

Frustrating...again.

Spot on. Very frustrating.

Well at least we didn't lose.  Furies looked like they came here to nick a point. Mariners just look sadly lacking in quality NOT confidence.
Back four did well. Boogs was the pick of the bunch. Doig was good but could have closed down Brockie's shot better as could have Wilko.
Midfield was shocking.  Heff and Porter attacked well down the flanks but sub NSL standard when they have the ball was costly.  Hutch and Pedj were terrible.
Mrdja was excellent in first half but simon was hopeless until put out of his (our) misery and thankfully rested.

Vuko 6.  Still worries me with the flat footed non attempts at saves but was OK.
Boogs. 7.5    Good game and great set up for Porter on first goal.
Wilko 7.  Missed an open goal but credit for getting foward and making the opportunity happen.  Trying to lead the team like a capt.
Doig 7.  Apart from being slow to close down Brockie had an excellent game.
Clarke 5.  Waste of space and shot when a simple side foot tap would have scored was embarrassing.

Porter 6.5.  Mixed game.  Nice cross on first goal but some howlers as usual.
Hutch 5.  Pathetic.  Dead ball work was shameful.  Was he even on the pitch in first half.
Bojic 6.  Couple of nice passes especially peach to Heff in first few minutes but he REALLY is not a centre mid. Shooting was ordinary at best.
Heff 6.  Attacks with gusto but doesn't have required touch to play in Midfield.

Simon 5.  Terrible.
Mrdja 7.5.  MOM along with Boogs.  First 45 was brilliant.  Showed glimpses of the quality he used to have.

Subs:  All were average although Kwas nearly fluked an winner from a mishit corner.

We put out a team of honest toilers today.  Most of them are gutsy but limited and thats how we played.  We didn't stink the joint out but we would have got smashed by a better Football side than the Furies.

We missed having Travis tonight, Disco Nik was impressive and deserving of MOM imo. Both Simon and Bojic are struggling and should play a few games in the youth team.
tbh travis' form has been off for a while too, we dont really have anything at present to give us a kick start - good to see mrdja picking up his act though i was impressed with him tonight and on nye, shame that the team as a whole is playing utter shite

Still think Travis would have added that little spark we were lacking in the 2nd half. Thing with Travis is he can be off his game and still better than some options available to us.

Totally correct.

A poorly performing Travis or Weemac is far more dangerous than a firing Hutch, Bojic or Porter.

Nope..... marginally better but finishing was disgraceful.  Defence solid for a change.

You simply have to take your chances in football. Should have been 3 -1 at HT - game over.

Don't know what has happened to Matty's form. I think he is proving completely ineffective and could barely even win a knockdown tonight. We just can't get two strikers on form at the same time and its killing us. End of.

And have to say, if Mrdja had played like that all year while our defence was decent - we'd be in the top 3 right now. Was great to see - very involved, quality work, and barely put a foot wrong all night.

Hutch - very average game - offered nothing going forward.

Clarkey - struggled - early in particular - but put in a fantastic tackle shoulda/coulda given us the winning goal.

Boogs - better, but please stop kicking the ball into the opposition - and also offered nothing to the attack and his distribution was poor.

Heff - second to Mrdja for MOM.

Porter - decent first half, but not creatively aggressive or forward thinking enough second half.

Bojic - worked hard - but again another ineffective mid going forward.

Weemac... where the hell has he gone? He's like a different player since NZ? This guy was running the show, now he's barely even seeing the ball, let alone doing anything with it. Was almost like going down to ten men.

Danny - solid.

Mc Callister - it just doesn't look like there's any point - him and matty just look like much of a muchness when they interchange - but maybe with more game time he wouldn't be missing Matty's chances.

Kwassie, SHOULD HAVE PUT HIS HEAD ON IT, apart form that - nothing wrong but struggled to be involved as really we had stuff all distribution or creative nous happening at the point after he was subbed on.

Wilko and Doig (good to have him back) - both good - except for sitting too deep and too slow to close down on the first goal.

What was doing with Brockie? Did everyone agree not to tackle him??
If he's running around at will like that, someone just has to get stuck into him. Was putting them in the game single handed.

Next week...

Either Weemac needs to remember how to play football, or we should be using Travis as the creative top of the diamond.

Matty should be dropped.

LB is still an issue as Clarkey looks not entirely comfortable and Heff looks great in the mids... There's Lewis, but he looked shakey at the back. Though was great in the Yoof in the mids again. Sherlock continues to prove he is quality also...

Just two or three key player/performances short of getting convincing wins... Which is why I awesome form vanished imo.

Not even remotely. Dominated first half.  Mrdja excellent. Matty abysmal.

Second half - uncreative but could have nicked it, though certainly could have lost it too.

Ridiculous post.

Hutch or Bojic "firing" have both scored quality goals and had great games.

A poorly performing Weemac has offered NOTHING the last 6 weeks. No goals, no assists, nothing.

A poorly performing Travis kept passing the ball to the opposition last week when his first touch gave him that long with the ball.

I like both these players.
But its a stupid comment that just belittles two of our other players.
And all this resurrected "Lawries favourites" and the looked over victims bullshit, is just bloody tiresome at best.

First half passes were delivered to Disco's feet where he held the ball to create attacking options. Players were moving into space and hungry for the ball. Nice 1-2 combos saw us reguarly attacking the opposing goals. 2nd half our passes were abysmal and either off target or underpowered allowing Fury continuous counter attacks. We would then revert to a long ball game. THIS RARELY WORKS.

Yes the heat was a bitch, but still...

Exactly.

It's SO obvious. I fail to understand why we change our game plan from something that works to something that doesn't. A long ball can be used sparingly to catch out a defence but constantly used, it f**ks us over.

Take a snap poll of people leaving the ground..... Normal fans not you die hards who wear Lawrie tinting glasses.
Most people laugh at Hutcho/Bojic/Porter/Clarke/Kwas.

We were looking at coming stone cold last this year but Doig/Travis/WeeMac gave us a bit of quality.
If they are injured or we choose to drop them for our own local superstars, then we will get the wooden spoon.
Its unpalatable but true.
