Whilst I didn’t agree with the Baro being appointed as Captain (that should have been someone with more mongrel/presence), he was certainly one of our most consistent players every week. I think our next Captain (if Baro is leaving that is) should be Golec but of course he still has to recover from a serious injury.

For my money a captain should have a presence of stability and rocklike ............ leave the mongrel to others that he controls

for me the Captain has to be a natural at rallying the troops. Hutch and Monty could both fire up a team when needed, often by example

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
So, Baro off back to Spain...so who to be Captain...probably Tommy, maybe Gameiro...possibly Golec ( assuming his leg doesn’t hinder his head, like I’m sure Storms did)

This is where we're at right now - DDS still appears as a player.
It's also easy to forget we've made a few signings already. Plenty of time and cash to spend before we take the field in late July.

Goalkeepers: Adam PEARCE, Ben KENNEDY
Defenders: Jonathan ASPROPOTAMITIS, Antony GOLEC, Jake McGING, Kye ROWLES, Jack CLISBY
Midfielders: Adam BERRY, Tom HIARIEJ, Jacob MELLING, Danny De SILVA
Attackers: Andrew HOOLE, Connor PAIN, Corey GAMEIRO, Matt SIMON

As for captain... Golec makes sense to me, him or Tommy?

Mariners farewell El Capitán, Alan Baró
The Central Coast Mariners can today advise that Alan Baró will return to Spain with his family to pursue other opportunities.

Baró signed a two-year-deal with the Mariners in May 2017 but has today agreed to a mutual termination of his contract with the Club which will allow him to return to his homeland.

Announced as the Club’s fifth Captain last September, Baró led the team into battle 24 times.

Alan thanked the Central Coast Mariners for their ongoing support and welcoming his family with open arms.

“I feel sad to be leaving,” Baro said. “I have nothing but positive things to say about this club, the Coast, the community and all of the fans.

“Me and my family were treated so well here on the Central Coast and I leave Australia with many close friends because the Central Coast is one of the best places we’ve ever lived.

“It was a difficult season and we didn’t get the results we deserved – but at the Mariners there are a fantastic group of people at the club who I am confident will take this club forward.

“Despite those results – the support of the Mariners fans and community was amazing and I can’t thank them enough for that. I want to take this opportunity to thank the fans, the club and the Central Coast community for their ongoing support and making our time on the Central Coast very enjoyable,” Baró said.

The Central Coast Mariners thank Baró for his efforts and wish him all the best on his future endeavours.

I liked Baro though didn't think he was a natural leader. I guess he was on significant cash as captain and this frees up both Money and another foreign spot. Thwaite to come in, on less coin? I am reserving judgement until we see who comes in, so far i am not unhappy with decisions made both in and out.

I think we will see a new player as captain. Time will tell.....

So contracted players we thought were locked in for next season which made for optimism are leaving faster than thought possible.
What a sad reflection of the squad listed only two weeks ago.
There may be bundle of cash in the purse but it is controlled by scrooge charlesworth.

I have just fallen off the fence:vomit:

I would be pretty sure these are all mutual decisions. Wout and Baro anyway. There will be another 10 or so signings, several,of which will be decent.

Just as sad about Baro leaving as I am with Brama gone.
Proper defender but there was only so much per game he could do. Agree he wasn’t reaaaaallly captain material given his quiet demeanour. I don’t necessarily believe it’s just them jumping ship before it sinks completely. Wout is probably getting slightly more money to go and help his very proud hometown club get promoted straight away.
And we just have to believe Baro’s family issues unless told otherwise.

We just have to trust Mulveys making the right moves, he’s got a really solid spine he needs to rebuild now.
How’s Harry Ascroft doing in Malta?

You can tell when the club liked a player by the release statement. No animosity here

I feel kind of good about all this

Mulvey has connections, proven coaching quality, money and freedom to build a team with 4 months up the sleeve. Could be a good season after all!

Might be why mm took on the challenge ................. but can’t see how three cripples fit that plan ????
They are at best an unknown quantity, albeit if they shake off their injuries they could prove to be good business.

If the team ends up as competent as the coaching staff appears to be I guess all is not lost.

I will reserve my judgement for when the replacement troops are announced, as it’s all well and good clearing the decks, the hard task is in ensuring that you are consistently bringing in better players than are leaving.

Having money available is only one aspect, you have to find the right sort of players and then persuade them to come on board.
