It's interesting to see that CCM are training, would have thought there'd be a holiday.....is Mulvey wanting to see what the team is capable of in training to determine his decisions?

Last Thursday, NPL young gun and Campbelltown City attacker Lui Ditroi received the news every young footballer wants to hear. Lui had been offered a one-week trail with two-time A-League Champions Central Coast Mariners.

Lui was granted permission by coaching staff and administrators at Campbelltown City to trial with the A-League club, which saw him leave on Sunday morning, returning this Saturday.

We caught up with Lui to hear his thoughts on the opportunity, along with how he felt going into the trial. “I’m feeling good going into it, I think I’ve had a pretty good first 9 games this season and I have really been trying to enjoy myself on the park rather than worry about a personal performance” he said.

Ditroia has spent the last six years at Campbelltown City, coached by former Adelaide City player Joe Mullen. His youth days however entailed a different journey, as at the age of 14, Lui and his family moved to Melbourne for 2 years. While over there, he played for Victorian Club Bulleen Lions before returning to Adelaide.

Once landing back in SA, Ditroia had a trial with SASI, but was unsuccessful and joined former top-flight club Adelaide Blue Eagles. At age 16 he was handed his debut for Blue Eagles against Croydon Kings. Then in 2012, Lui Joined Adelaide United Youth Team, which was coached by Michael Valkanis.

Central Coast Mariners have concluded their 2017/2018 season and are currently still training under newly appointed coach Mike Mulvey, who has been handed the reigns for the next two seasons. When asked how the opportunity came about, Lui said it came out of the blue, “I wasn’t expecting it at all, I had some calls over the last few weeks from staff at Central Coast. One thing led to another and they wanted me over there as soon as possible.”

The aim for Lui will ultimately be to try to gain a professional contract. With Mulvey coming in as the new coach for the 2018/2019 season, the whole team is on trial, looking to impress. The Mariners confirmed in mid-April that seven players would leave the club including the likes of Liam Rose (contract expired), Tom Glover (loan completion) and Storm Roux (early release).

Current Adelaide United goalkeeper Paul Izzo spent two years at the Mariners after he was released from United in 2015. In two seasons, the 23-year old impressed and in his last season (2016/2017) he was named Player of the Year at the club. Like Izzo, Ditroia was always hopeful that his opportunity to play professionally would come too.

Lui credits former NPL players Ryan Kitto and Nikola Mileusnic as inspirations and hope that gaining a professional contract in the A-League can happen, after they too had a similar pathway he is experiencing now. “Of course, Ryan and Nikola are always in the back of your mind. I’ve played with and against them plenty of times, they are proof that a good, hard working season can sometimes get more rewards than you think.”

Depending on how Lui performs in the week, will determine if the Mariners will offer him a professional contract. Ditroia is staying relaxed and focused saying “At the end of the day I haven’t achieved anything yet, it is only a trial so there’s no need to get ahead of myself.

I just plan to go there with a good mentality, there’s nothing to lose for me really, to work hard both on and off the ball and hopefully show something positive.”

If it's him you'd have to bring him on with five minutes to go when you're 1-0 down.

He'd then score a couple. That's my recollection of him playing at Reading anyhow.

Looks like Bolton avoided the drop to League 1 by a couple of points. ALF did come on and score in the last game, but maybe they're looking to rebuild for next season. Doesn't look like he's scored that many later in his career. A league could be his standard.

He came on with 30 mins to go and scored last weekend . Forest then equalised and led before he provided two assists in the last 10 minutes.

Yeah great to see Matty back, I can dust off the banner from the the 2011 grand-final for the first game.
Very interesting reading from the MM interview too...
https://www.a-league.com.au/news/ma...ral-coast-mariners-aleague-transfer-sydney-fc
regarding bringing back more ex players.
McGlinchey is available (yeah yeah I know)
Bozanic is also in the mix
Bernie Ibini would be nice
Rogic (Dreaming now) or maybe Amini?
Ferriera, Duke?
Austin...(lol yeah/nah)

Would take the Duke in a Heartbeat, if he decides to return.

People are knocking our signing Simon. To my mind the main benefit of M Simon is to instill a fighting culture. To show what 100% effort looks like.
Passion and belief sound cliched but that is what gets wins in the dying minutes.

He is not a starting striker and is best used in the last 10-15 minutes.

If the age of mediocrity is over we have to see a top notch striker signed.

Now if we continue that line of thought...

Mossy would be an assistant coach in the National Team

In the pre arnold era at sfc ............. sfc they were diabolical and it was a no brainer that given the money arnold would dominate the league.

Ccm in the arnold era exceeded themselves and played above their weight.

In the post arnold era ccm were ripped apart by him and left the team demoralised and in tatters for people to try and put humpty back together again.............. with the added hurdle of scrooge in charge of the chequebook.

Since the socceroos coaching announcement sfc have been patchy compared to their dominance early in the season. It is obvious that arnold had lost his hold after announcing he was gone ........... and the bricks in his building at sfc, ex ccm bricks, are falling by the way.

Arnolds recipe for success in the aleague is no more and now he has pushed their humpty off the wall ............. leaving the sfc coaching gig a poison challice the same as at ccm.

The plot is thickening ........

To my mind he is about as useful as a third goalkeeper to a squad now. It will depend if he can transfer his devotion from arnold to mulvey and his fifteen minute cameos are of any use to rest the striker .......????

I've been thinking similar. Wonder how they will cope with their post-Arnie era, and if their deeper pockets and VAR will keep them afloat a bit better.
Or maybe they will crash and burn but it will be even more fun to watch as they won't have any excuses.

Disagree that we played overs. Look at all the players that have gone onto euro clubs and NT. That squad was one of the best ever formed if you look at its contribution to the NT.

If you had watched Simon this last season when he came on for SFC, you would have see that he was more than just elbows in the opposition defence. I saw a Simon who had matured as a forward who could get above defences, win the ball and then look for support. I saw him lay off some beautiful balls rather than just the wham, bam Simon we all think he is.
Put someone dangerous up there with him and we will score plenty.

Matty will prove to be a wise buy, on and off the pitch. We haven't had a forward that can hold the ball up well since maybe Macca.
