City are paying to sever ties with Roma as well. Is DDS taking a pay cut from his $500,000? Is he a marquee? $500.000 is a lot to put under the cap for an underperforming #10.

As I've posted before. I don't blame him for wanting out. He must be smarting knowing that if he was playing for City, Scum, SFC or Victory this year, there'd be a decent chance he'd have hit proper form and be off to Russia.

But although I do think he's a quality player, I'm actually not unhappy about it. The challenge ahead is going to be such a mental one. I don't think we can rebuild without players who 1000% want to be here. And from what I saw, nor does he have the experience and mental toughness yet when the chips are down in games. We will need that graft this year.

I think thats true, we first need players willing to come and players willing to give it there all... Rosebudd was the classic example of a player MIA when the going got tough.

The old saying the fight in the dog, not the dog in the fight...

I don't think DDS head was in the right space for us anymore.

The trick will come when we see who has signed...

Hope I get this right.

Who is left.

2 Keepers, ......... Kennedy & Pearce

4 Backs ....... Baro, Golec, Rowles, McGing

4 Mids .......... Berry, Wout, Melling, Hiariej

3 Forwards..... Pain, Hoole, Symlie

Thats 13 players with Symlie 18 years of age and I assume promoted from the academy side.

Rumours on the two City backs and an English forward.

Yeah exactly. And from what MM has said, and how he's said it, I think he gets it too. But I'm expecting it will be a challenge to fill those roles with the right sort of players and they've had to wait till TBT and DDS bugger off. So I'm not expecting fast signings and our roster to turn around super quickly. And I'm happy as long as its clear that the ambition and strategy is there and the effort is going in. From what I can tell it seems to be. But can't wait to hear some news come out...

No Pod off season really sucks :(

Yep that's it. Though it's Smylie I believe. Anyone know what his contract status is?

Smylie went straight back to the Academy side after his one appearance and is currently out injured for approximately 3 months. He is on a NYL contract until September.

Don't blame him really, with our recent performances in the A-League, why would anyone think next season will be better.

If the several announcements thus far are anything to go by I get the feeling its all very cold and brutal.
Think you are right.

My impression so far is he does not give a flying F about your reputation he wants one thing more than anything else and thats you wanta play with me as your coach and for the Mariners. That you will give 100% each week and never say die.

Then once he has a list of players like that he will then go for skill, speed etc.

I worked for a guy like this once..... he was unbelievably demanding in what he wanted ... but stood by all his staff all the time... best boss I ever had TBH...

Just on DDS, if City are buying out his contract from Roma, then I doubt City will give him the $500K he is currently on. Wonder what his new pay rate would be as if he were to be on $500K this would have ramifications for their cap and would City really list him as a marquee?

Dds is no longer ccm’s problem .......... and he doesn’t have to wonder about russia either. Didn’t get a mention for the train on squad. Of the players bert liked from the games he saw were nabbout, petratos, brillante and arzarni.

I liked DDS and I think he has potential, but I also think that it was naive to expect for him to be going to Russia, based on how he's performed so far, whether here or elsewhere.
He is played as a CAM, look at his competition, would you really look to stack him up against Mooy and Rogic... Even Troisi if he's on song?
He might be good for a somewhat less prestigious tournament, like AFC, as an option to play in a likely rubber, but irrespective of our likely poor odds, you'd expect the national team to line up with the best options for all of the WC games and DDS is probably not even top 3 and that's not because of us, that's just where he's at in his development.
