Whoever manages the IT at the club deserves to be sacked. At a minimum there should have been an out-of-office applied to the former employee's account, and ideally the account should have been disabled
Feel sorry for our new recruits from Sheffield has anyone seen these boys train if so how did they go at training.
i watched them train. They look really fit & good on the ball.

Illegal. Would have a workplace claim against us.
Seems to be at odds with our club claiming they had no idea there was an offer on the table.
And its bad when our arch rivals have more credibility in this - and are being more transparent.
Statement: McKinna addresses Millar speculation

The Newcastle Jets would like to take this opportunity to address some of the speculation surrounding their discussions with Matt Millar from the Central Coast Mariners.

The Club can confirm that they have secured the services of Millar for two years, with the defender set to join the Jets at the beginning of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.

Football Operations Manager, Joel Griffiths led discussions with Millar and his management – advising the Mariners of his intention to negotiate via email following 1 December 2018.

Jets CEO, Lawrie McKinna expressed his disappointment at the way the Club’s latest signing had been revealed.

mail

“Obviously we’re really excited to have signed Matt, he’s a fantastic young talent,” McKinna said.

“To be talking about it under these circumstances isn’t ideal, as we had intended to keep this quiet until the end of the season out of respect for Matt and the Mariners.

“Joel (Griffiths) was completely transparent with the Mariners about our intentions to negotiate and we were able to put together an attractive package for Matt to join us here in Newcastle.

“We had extensive discussions with Matt and his management, and they liked what they saw both on and off the park here in Newcastle – we’re excited to have him at the Jets next season.

“Matt has handled himself exceptionally throughout this process, he’s an impressive young man and we wish him all the best for the remainder of the season.”

“Matt, we’re not angry..... no wait, we’re ropeable!!” Banner please

I’m happy for Berry that he’s been released, hope he can find a good NPL club or even use some UK connections. Best of luck to him.

Back to other players.
From the start of the season:
- we released
* McCormack, Cisse, Golec
- and brought in
*Jem, and the 2 Blades youth
(I'm tired - have I missed anyone?)

I don't see this squaring up accounts and still leaves us short in attack. Hopefully goals should come if we play our best midfield and have some steel in the backline, and I'd love to see a clean sheet sometime soon
You missed Adam Berry leaving by mutual agreement...

Aside from all the backstabbing, I can't blame Millar for wanting to move on. If he aspires to having a football career, we aren't the best club in the world to provide that at the moment. I wouldn't say Newcastle is either, go figure.

The club dropped the ball on this one. If MC wants to make money out of the club, he would have locked Millar in with an eye of selling him off later down the track. It seems to me a lack of immediacy and communication between players, agents and managerial staff has seen us lose our best prospect since Rogic.

If this was a one-off situation, we could say, oh well that's football, you win some, you lose some. But, the club botched it last year with Wales and Trent. Who's next?
millar was a bigger loss than trent and wals .
i see him as brett emerton , lecki or a goodwin . a real cock up on our behalf

f**k this.. @Shaun Mielekamp - given the seeming ineptitude in the club handling contracts and playing football over the last 3-4 years, can you give me just one good reason why I should throw my money at another membership next year?
I feel like I'm not alone in the group of people who decided to give it one more shot when Mike signed on yet it feels like little has really changed. If the club doesn't take itself seriously enough to properly contract its own players, how can you expect anyone else to?
Had this been a once off it would be a different story, but the amount of short-term contracts with short-term thinking is frankly destroying our little club, arguably more so than the lack of on-field results and at this point it feels a lot like the only response is platitudes and excuses.
Why should I throw another cent at the club at this point? I really want to find a good reason, but it's getting very very hard.

Because you really love us...

I have been fuming about the whole Millar thing for two days now and have known about the Jest approach for several weeks but hoping the club was heading it off.

Whilst the truth about the e-mail bullshit will come out in the end, my real beef is with the crap Shaun has been spouting about the club having to wait until January to make it’s ‘best offer’ to Millar. We have 7 players contracted for next season (yes just 7), so the club could arguably have offered whatever they wanted to Millar in December, as the cap spend would have largely been wide open, so it just doesn’t wash for mine sorry.

This whole farce just shows how utterly incompetent our football club has become at even getting the basics right, so lord help us for next season unless that drastically changes. All this has occurred when we supposedly have our first ever technical director in place, so Why did it happen? Oh yeah, our TD is helping to coach Man Utd, so he should have plenty of time to oversee CCM matters....

Wow, I am genuinely amazed at the hatred getting spewed about on here since yesterday.

Here’s an theory, a young guy who has already been dropped by an a league club once gets a shot at a return with the Mariners. While thankful for the opportunity, Millar realised better than most kids how short a football career can be, as he had already seen his professional career stop once before.
While he has received indication that the mariners want to keep him, another Aleague club offers a multi year contract, with a solid coach, resonable investment is the squad and facilities etc, and the kid says ‘ I actually just need to do what’s best for me. I’m not going to get in a bidding war, is not about scraping every last dollar from my next contract, but the best move for my career and chances is to take an offer with another team’.

I have personally left jobs and teams without discussing it with my emloyer. I did so because the decisions I made had nothing to do with money, but opportunity and a clearer path to achieve my personal goals.

The fact it’s the Jets is pissing everyone off, but given Mulvey said they had spoken, and that Millar changed his mind 4-5 times, says to me the kid was genuinely torn, and given he didn’t play the two teams off against each other says to me that he had made his decision based on opportunity at another club.

Given the Jets made the GF last year, and we have been doing our best to win every spoon for the last 5 years, it’s bloody hard to argue that he would be better off in another team.

It sucks, because I wanted to keep him, the fact he didn’t start the season and then went on such a run of man of the match awards once he got an opportunity speaks volumes for a kid taking his second chance. But professional sportspeople have a very short playing career compared to other industries, so I can’t begrudge him for trying to make the most of his time.

And as for the theory we had to unload players to be able to table our offer - the offer was for NEXT season, when we only have about 8 players contracted. This offer would basically be done with the bulk of a salary cap available, and any players released in this window are irrelevant.
