We play to get away from the spoon, to take steps away from being the laughing stock of the league which hurts our recruitment and future prospects. I understand your logic but IMO these signings show MM isn’t willing to go out the way Okon did and will keep fighting. Maybe we couldn’t get a longer term prospect but this was the next best option and just maybe next years recruitment gets a little easier.
Smart post and read of it I think.

Alright...

I’m way late to the lynching party, so I’m sitting here trying to come up with a value add snake is dead to me line etc , and I’m struck by a pretty worrying realisation.

I fear the club will play the snake.

As a fan I don’t want to see him again, but the players... I think they’re going to want him to play... they desperately want to win games and he’s been a key asset... and the coach... well... same right? He’s just been signing a bag of players only till seasons end. Once the anger wears off I think he may well want to get from him what he can... and the owner... well shit... I think he’s surely tired of losing and won’t interfere with the coach anyway...

Add to that McGings out... and a clear second fiddle at RB besides...

And I think we should brace ourselves for the fact that he may well continue to play.

This has happened because we don’t have a proper football department, Football Manager or Director of Football. More penny pinching from MC.

To hear that the CEO is working late personally handling player contracts, working on player retention etc. is just ludicrous.

And if his time and resources are spent doing this what doesn’t he have the time to work on?

Aside from all the backstabbing, I can't blame Millar for wanting to move on. If he aspires to having a football career, we aren't the best club in the world to provide that at the moment. I wouldn't say Newcastle is either, go figure.

The club dropped the ball on this one. If MC wants to make money out of the club, he would have locked Millar in with an eye of selling him off later down the track. It seems to me a lack of immediacy and communication between players, agents and managerial staff has seen us lose our best prospect since Rogic.

If this was a one-off situation, we could say, oh well that's football, you win some, you lose some. But, the club botched it last year with Wales and Trent. Who's next?

That's the thing that really pisses me off though. I doubt it'll make much difference in terms of external perception, whether he's here or up there, and certainly Laurie has been open about them being sort on money this year at least, so you wouldn't think the prospect was that enticing, yet here we are, clearly less enticing.
For all of my ire with Millar a CB Laurie, it's clear that something is horrifyingly wrong with how three club goes about this shit. Once off happen but this is becoming a regular occurrence every transfer window.

Moving on is just business but what we’ve heard about how it was gone about is concerning. However this is dealt with that’s what needs to be communicated with the squad to avoid destabilising it.

Seeing who we’ve named I think we need to play him on the weekend. We’ll be worse for it if we start Hoole, Mcglinchey or Clisby (swapping Pain right) and we need to put in our best showing. Even if we get beaten a tight contest is better than the demolition job they did on Brisbane. The new players should be available for next week and a left winger could give us the option to push Pain right without weakening the team. If Millar isn’t giving us his all then sub him and don’t play him again.

With a clear head you're probably right

Football in the modern day is business and this is where we have failed, by not securing our better players. We are not protecting our investments and that's complete mismanagement try waltzing in MC, VICTORY,SFC, or WS to try and lure there players to come play for us during the season . It was so easy for Juda to call Miller for a Coffee and get in his ear . Wish I was there to listen to the sale pitch now that would have been interesting. Final note our player retention is a real concern something not quite right.

Possibly chat for the match thread but with who we’ve named Hoole, Weemac or Clisby (switch Pain to right and play him left). Not terribly keen on any of the options tbh. Had this gone down a day or two earlier Kekeris might have been named. Can’t see Shabow starting back from injury and likely same situation with Oar.

They gave KEK a short run at RB and he gave away a penalty and looked lost.

On reflection, the thing that I find most worrying in this story is the report that we had to wait until we saved money elsewhere before we could offer him an improved contract.
I had hoped that the purse strings had been loosened a little, but if the report is true it could explain why we have not made too many signings for future years yet.
Looks like we are still on the bread and water diet.
It can also explain why any of our players are would be willing to jump out the first offer they receive.

I am becoming despondent again. :(

On a positive note, maybe the Club can use this money that they have been squirrelling away to offer acceptable contract extensions to Tommy, Aspro and Connor.

I live in hope, if not expectation. :headbutt:

If Millar is on the bench and he gets brought on, keep an eye on Bay 16 as PriorPeter runs like hell to get the megaphone off the new bloke.

Thing is MM said the purse strings had been loosened again.
We presume our initially intended signings fell through so that implies the money was there.
When are the Shef players starting?
