Golec definitely had a falling out with Mark Mulvery. He got hooked early one match a few weeks ago and never returned. Should have been Cisse, IMO.

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
LOL. I'm more of a Kevin Muscat with the speed, fitness and touch of Pedj. (edit I now have the fitness and speed of Offsider)

Btw Recky will have to be assistant coach. If he has to head the ball his head might fall off! (The sand bars of Avoca were not very kind to his spinal column)
Indeed I got a spine like spaghetti ...but thanks for the thought

I’d say he got a tap on the shoulder.
I’ve been thinking since Mulvey said we have 2 more defensive signings to come.. still waiting....
Surely 2 have to go?
Golec has been a shadow of himself since his injury. So I’m not really shocked or bothered if I’m honest. He definitely had some great displays in our jersey and many people liked, as did i. But Aspro has been 100x better in just a few games. He and Rowles must be locked down.
I won’t be shocked if Cisse is given the flick soon either. Really hoping for that one.

We should expect a new CB signing imminently. Deadline is Thursday.

Mutually terminated doesn’t count against the cap for next season, correct?

As to his high shot conversion rate. At 4 goals that 19% is because he’s managed only a small amount of shots and highlights the point. Krishnas is so high because of his runs and how he can create opportunities for himself often one on one. Watch tovoinen also. Great player. Exactly what we need. Anyone can see Matty is struggling to get himself into scoring positions compared to most of the leagues other strikers. And that means he’s not going to score enough goals, regardless of his others pluses.

He has several other attributes I value, but it’s undeniable that we need a better return from our staring striker imo.
So would we be better off using him in another position?
Say as a defensive midfielder, we seem to lack in that position. (TIC)
Or maybe a wide midfielder?

That's fair enough and a pretty significant issue - perhaps Jem coming in might assist with that or allow some flexibility to shuffle players around. But IMO the moment they announced Simon as captain it felt like he was going to be shoehorned in to the starting XI no matter what so there is an element of making it fit him. We even saw a bit of that with Ross and I can't help but wonder if the insistence of playing Simon hindered us finding a strategy to get the most out of Ross.
.

Honestly, I think Ross was a dud from the get go. Everyone always talk about getting 'the right' service to these forwards but they've gotta be able to do some of the work themselves. As it stands it's hardly Matty's fault that we're not playing a #10 though - I doubt it he was recruited in that place. The ones we have that have been touted as being able to play there have been shite at least in that role, so here we are.

On a whole though, I remain fairly optimistic about our forwards, especially if we could replace Hoole with someone competent. I expect more of the goals would come of we didn't keep ending up further and further back in defense at that point of every game when the goals usually come easier.
I want a bloody CB and a GK!!!

I remember Mulvey saying in the pre season we would build our defence around Golec. Oh how a shit season changes perspectives, pressure on Mulvey to replace him with a better player now. Our depleted back line is now weaker, oh joy and poor Aiden seems stuck there for a while yet. Poor bloke.

Not convinced our system suits Matt Simon. Playing central on his own limits him especially with us bypassing our midfield and looping long balls to him. Defenders wait for it to drop from his chest and press him game after game. It's why he is left to dual rugby tackle for the ball. He plays most of the game on the last man and rarely drops in a deeper position to receive the ball and take the pressure off the midfield to find him. He doesn't have the pace or the support to make his current role work. He needs someone in closer proximity imo or find someone else to do that job.

Would you swap Matty for those other strikers? And would you bet they’d have scored more goals and won us more games?

I like Matty. Not interested in shitting on him. But we need a 12 plus goals a season striker at the least to be leading us. And for a striker, the goal stats matter most. By a big margin.
He provides service that striker needs. 17 shot assists for an ALF or Bruno would be a 12 goal striker.

Golec was a good player last year and literally put his body on the line for us.

Unfortunately he isn’t the same and it didn’t work out this year and with our poor defence we just can’t carry him until he is fit (if ever again).
Sports is a tough business but he certainly fit with coastie culture. Shame to see him go but it is best for the club.

Golec mutually terminated. I did not see that coming lol hahahaha heading to another aleague club as per NBN reports.

I'm a bit sad as I really liked Antony as a person. An absolutely charming young man but not the greatest Footballer. A useful squad player but not starting 11 for me. I hope he makes it as he is a top bloke.
His mistake level was too high. I watched a really intense 2 touch session with our so called best outfield 12 , that turned to 1 touch and 2 players were behind the rest in terms of technique. Golec was one of them.

Just as a side note.....the 3 best were McCormack, God and O'Neill.

When he got back to training he still was in pain. Two weeks when I saw him he could hardly walk.

No surprise and I am certain he won’t be playing for a while or joining another club yet.

Fantastic guy. Sad to see him go.

He was training last week Mick with no sign of an injury and was in pretty good touch when i saw him. My heart says bad decision but my head says good decision.
I really hope he kicks on. If its any solace to him.....his girlfriend is hotter than all of ours!
