Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I can’t help but wonder if the Matilda’s fiasco has preoccupied the media a bit and dulled the rumour mill or at least made it less visible with all the noise. The Golec thing seems to have blindsided everyone here so it can stay under wraps if done right. We still have no more concrete information on where Fornaroli lands either.

It has been all encompassing and evidence stands in that golec left without so much as a sniff in the media.

Just on Golec’s leg, I can’t remember, did he get any screws or plates in it?
Remember after storms horrific injury if he got a decent knock on an area of the screws or plate he’d be out atleast a week due to soreness/swelling.

I don’t think that’s the sole reason for the termination but could be in the thinking.
Gameiro must surely be sweating about his future now in all honesty.

He provides service that striker needs. 17 shot assists for an ALF or Bruno would be a 12 goal striker.

He’s a striker. Not a 10. You’re making my point for me. His scoring rate is very low. Lower than half a dozen midfielders in the league, let alone other starting strikers. Not to mention a ‘shot assist’ can just be a ball passed a couple of metres sideways to a player 25 metres out from goal, say Pain who then makes a great run and beats two men on his own and gets a shot off.

My simple, and I think undeniable point, is that a starting striker has to score more than every 4th odd game, otherwise unless you have an exceptionally high scoring midfield you’re in all sorts of trouble.

I like Matty and plenty of Matty’s work, there’s no argument there. So your point is moot, but it still doesn’t mean you can afford to have a striker who rarely scores.

Player recruitment and retention is a critical aspect of all the great coaches / managers ...

Culina was an excellent coach of a top side but arguably the worst coach at picking good new players and holding on to those you want.

Jurgen Klopp is an example of developing a squad... interestingly players want to play in his team which says something I not sure what.

Laurie Mckenna IMO was the best talent spotting coach we ever had and you could argue in all of Hal...

Somehow, in a salaried capped league, under Wamlsey, Moss [in particular], & PO we have not recruited the best and have lost players to other clubs..

Where does MM rank in the scale... Middy little summary

Lost
DDS ...
Lockie Wales,

Recruited...
O,Neil ... +
Cessie .... -
Millar.... +
Murry ..... not good not bad say even
Shabow .... ditto
MacDonald ... not seen enough
WeeMac..... -
Matty ... not good not bad say even
Aspro ... +
Clisby ... -
Gamerio .... who knows
Oar ...... -
MaCormack ... -

By my count thats 13 signings of which 3 have added value, 5 have failed, and 3 are just holding there place., 1 yet to play, and 1 not enough play to comment but that would indicate a poor signing.

For me this is a fail in the recruitment area, and interesting those that have failed have been the older established players.

Sorry to see Lord G leave he always gave his all and last year in particular that was not always the case
I think Oar is a plus. Other than that wholly agree,

You've pigeon holed him.

Step in the right direction but to the end of the season means he gets to do a Wales and walk for free.

Still, we have 2 defenders coming, Mulvery said so. Cant wait to see who they are

Agree Why aren't we locking him down on a multi year contract now? I can see him being one of the league's top mids. If he keeps growing i would NOT want to play against him in 3 years time. Has the potential to be both a crowd favourite and part of the backbone of the team IMO

Kid's played 66 minutes of top-flight football. Less than a match of combined time on the park across two fixtures.

He's incredibly talented and obviously has a fantastic career ahead of him but it would be foolish to sign him to a multi-year deal that quickly.

Not if he's incredibly talented and obviously has a fantastic career ahead of him :)
We've taken worse risks on less likely players in the last few seasons.
At least we have an advantage that he might actually prefer to stay with the club if possible - although so did Wales .
I tend to think not signing him for longer is a bigger risk than signing him. His price will only go higher at the end of the year
