The Covert Agent: Central Coast Mariners playmaker set to join Melbourne City
http://www.goal.com/en-au/news/the-...ales-melbourne-city/1vafmvzu252j1gezzlalp9t07
EXCLUSIVE: Goal's resident spy reveals the attacker is likely to move south after breaking through this season

Central Coast Mariners look set to lose talented midfielder Lachlan Wales to Melbourne City.

The Covert Agent can reveal the 20-year-old's management team is claiming their client will join Warren Joyce's side for next season.

Wales made his debut in a single subsitute appearance last season but burst on to the scene with an assist off the bench in January's 1-1 draw with Melbourne Victory.

The Terrigal-born product went on to start seven more matches for the campaign and impressed with his range of passing and movement.

Wales' tally of two assists for the campaign is more than heralded playmaker Daniel De Silva, who created only one goal from his 21 appearances.

De Silva's future is also subject to intense speculation, with the 21-year-old understood to be in discussions with three A-League clubs.

I think the minute any of these kids who are genuine Mariners products ask their agents to look elsewhere, they can get f**ked. Let’s be honest, what they have is potential to be good in the future- they are not fantastic right now. They should be more desperate for the Mariners than what the mariners are for them. Wales will not be getting much game time, especially if he is given an opportunity and plays how he did every chance with us, shocking passes and slow decision making. Eh, cya kid, enjoy not even warming a bench.

Seriously, prick move by Okon.
Setting it up so that 'if I leave, the players leave' to leverage your position is spiteful once you see it take action.
I hope the club feels the same and that is the last we see if that bull twang

Yeah hugely agree and had been planning on writing something similar. Empowers the player, his agent and the coach, but not the club. helps ensure the coach and players future but not the clubs. It’s rubbish. It’s not like Okon is the special one. He was an unproven virgin HAL coach.

That said, I do t know how much blame lies with Okon. If he had been pushing hard to sign da Silva’s and his agent was the one who both introduced and pushed for the clause then it’s a bit different. But never should have been accepted. Club should not have agreed.

I wonder if this was a part of the clubs criticism of Okons recruitment strategy and besides adsru-flop why they were pulling the brakes on him? Embarrassing to have players on 3 year contracts just able to walk away ibecause an unproven HAL coach fails.

Okon is not and never will be a club man. He’s all about Okon... some great coaches are. But you better be damn good to walk that road

Post on 442 from a Roar fan..

Gameiro has apparently signed with mariners, and on a decent contract so he’ll get one more crack at the HAL

Ask their agents? I doubt that’s what’s happening.

I wonder if some of the problem is that if they've grown up on the Central Coast they might just want to go live somewhere else Disappointing about Wales He showed potential

Yeah unfortunately unless you absolutely live for surfing or fishing etc the coast is a dead spot for young single guys. Great for those guys with young families looking for a quieter sunrise to sunset lifestyle.

I thought Lachie had plenty of ‘potential’ and he had hunger and was willing to step up and try and take responsibility. But to become truly competitive again, we’re going to need a much greater balance of players that have converted their potential. Very unlikely that he would have gotten game time at any other HAL side this year.

It’s a shame to lose our most promising local youngsters, but reality is, anyone who is still just a developmental player and will be for at least 2 more seasons - like Wales and TBT - it is not essential to re-sign. There will be plenty of others who need a couple of years to develop who are eager for their chance.

Imo these young players still all only dream of one thing. Getting to Europe. And with agents, that’s the 5 year golden plan they buy into. And every Australian club is merely a stepping stone to enhance CV’s and the store front of their shop windows.

It’s not, look you want to be a superstar fine, then put your head down, train your guts out and play play play as much as you can here. Cement your skills, cement your work ethic and perhaps most importantly develop your character. All elite sports are games of mind and will, not just body. Then when, you’re ‘consistently’ dominating here, let’s talk about Europe. If you’re not dominant here, you’re delusional thinking about Europe. And if you think you can grow to your potential without consistent game time. You’re even more deluded.

By all means dream big, but work hard and focus on giving your all to wherever you are. For mine it’s the ethic players like Mile and Matty Ryan exhibited. Focused on doing the work. And let the rest come as a result

I’m not saying this is for every young player. Some teen prodigies etc might be well served leaving early for an OS academy. But for many that does not prove a working strategy,

Well yeah I have no idea of the process. But I doubt they are being forced into it. The club used resources, took risks, finally gets these kids almost up to speed and they bail to be low performers elsewhere. Absolute arrogant and dick move.

Struggling to believe the lachie rumour, he has massive potential, technically a very very good player. Better than pain in that area and always been well ahead of trent. Lightning fast too, just needs to be slightly more refined and consistent. Genuinely hoping he could turn into a regular next season.
It will sum up where our club is at if a kid who’s been in the academy system since roughly the age of 12 born and bred coastie, who btw loves his beaches and surfing, Takes the first chance to leave.
