Well Okon loved lil Rosey as much as every other coach before him but when everything turned to shit Melling was basically brought in as Rose’s replacement and clearly Mulvey thought Melling the better player. How well has that turned out....

I loved Liam Rose, fantastic on the ball decent pitch intelligence and put his foot in on occasion albeit not enough which was really his main weakness, but that also comes with age. And showed decent versatility.

If I were Liam, I’d take any offer EXCEPT the one from us. Although it’s interesting he was at the NYE game. And if Adelaide were interested I’d go there on minimum wage to start. Kurz is a fantastic coach, Hindmarsh is a perfect Ozzie soccer stadium with good support and Adelaide have a very good squad. f**k, if we ever fold I’m moving to Adelaide.

Also a cracking place to be too. Id be in on that if I didn't already live in paradise! I remember an age ago we were talking about relocation and loyalty and I was firmly of the opinion any form of club with ccm a part of wouldn't be ccm and I'd not support it. Now if the sunshine coast got a club I'd be out quicker than a Sydney fan in the wanderers first season.

I think Liam Rose would be a good signing in the off season. I think he is a step up at the very least from Melling/Berry. If we then sign our best academy midfielder on a scholarship and manage to bring back O'Neill as well as actually play and retain Hiariej I think we would have the beginnings of a good midfield. IMHO a midfield a starting midfield of Oar, Hiariej and O'Neill with Rose on the bench being pushed by an up and coming youngster could get us into the finals.

We need to lock in these guys for next season now - Millar, Murray, Hiariej and O'Neill if possible. I'd also look at Pain & Rowles now and take punts on Aspropotamitis & Kekeris

I think Millar and Murray will be gone if they get a half decent offer and signing them for one year was a really poor decision. You’re effectively gambling that your NPL recruits aren’t going to go well enough to be poached. It’s not like we’re Sydney or Victory and they can expect to win some trophies with us and stick around for that.

Tom H maybe if he isn’t still out of favour and ONiell’s club may well see us as devaluing their player the way things are going.

Totally agree - if you are going to punt on NPL players you have to go to 2 years at least. They are still both happy we gave them a go so we be able to hang onto one or both of the NPL guys. O'Neill is off contact at the end of the loan so we can talk to him now - though he will have offers probably from OS as well.

Dumb post.
Heaps of potential but weak as piss.
Thoughen up and battle a bit and he could be a very useful player.
He got cut because he didnt deserve to stay and along with other flogs like storm was quite happy to conceed 8 against the Scum and laugh about it.

Damn, really got to you didn’t it.
Mate, there’s still players here that smile and shrug their shoulders when we get pumped every week.

Mulvey promised steel and a never say die attitude from the players we can all forgive if class beats us... but its not F...k..g funny when you see the effort at times...

We sit in Bay 37 almost on the half way line... meaning we get a very good view of the team from the sides ... at times against Perth the gap between the last back and the most forward was 60 meters and for often long periods over 50 meters.... backs not pushing up forwards not falling back and mids not drifting across the field. This is very very very basic stuff and when sides simply don't track back and push forward to me it SCREAMS somethings wrong.

On a similar vain our off the ball movement both with the ball and without the ball seems to lack any direction or planning.

I was the worst player in a number of very good sides and what kept me in these sides was essentially good coaches and instructions on the field from other players... most importantly was the planning we did, like if the left mid lost the ball on the half way line then each player knew what to do.. I had an ability to understand team structure and the importance of both off the ball movement and keeping the space between the lines tight.

When sides loose this structure they loose ... watch most professional games and its not that often you get 50 + meters between the lines... when Arnold was coach it was very tight often less than 20 meters.

Imagine your Rowles or Millar, young and trying to prove you have what it takes to play at a professional level.

When they get the ball often under pressure, who is showing and making for an easy pass ... in defence as our lines are so far apart people are coming at them with speed and in space ...

Seems to me when a team con't keep tight lines, and show for the ball the coach has lost the respect of players ... because these are very very very beyond basic structures and Mulvey would be saying these things but its simply not happening.

They have no reason to lose the respect, they can't blame the coach for their multitude of INDIVIDUAL mistakes and lack of focus. We can't keep sacking the coach, paying out the contract and preventing that money from being spent on better players.

This constant rebooting of the same failed plan must surely be ringing alarm bells somewhere?

Hypothesis:
We continue losing, Mulvey leaves the club, an interim coach is put in place, no new signings in January as we want to give the new coach (when appointed) a free hand.
Get spoon
New coach in off season
Hype and lies start again.
Collection of has beens and new coach's mates get signed
Meanwhile, whatever half decent youth we have (Glassock, Kekeris, Nisbett) leave for clubs that value them
Sick of it to be honest

I don't think there would be any hype next season...

We would be getting a coach with anywhere near the credentials that Mulvey had (whether it was through luck or quality).
We would officially become the poisoned chalice, and only the most desperate coach would take us on.

And our 2018 injection of 'heart and passion' will have failed.
The attempt to reinstill that famous Mariners grit.
You can't try and pull it off again.
Or convince the fans that it will work.

NB: I don't think the issue is currently a matter of effort (I.e. heart and passion).
Looking at our two games against Sydney FC this season, I think the boys showed more effort than the lacklustre performances from SFC.
Sydney are very fortunate to have gotten points from either game.

I think our issue has been shown to be mostly quality-related (and a bit psychological).

So the hope is that Charlesworth finally realises that we need to spend money...

But the only problem with that is I don't know how on earth we are going to recruit players next year...
I think we will struggle to get the likes of Oar, Clisby and Aspro.
These type of players might actually decide to take up a spot on the bench of another A-league team rather than start for us...

Which means our recruitment might be limited to NPL players (Murray, Millar and McDonald) and desperate A-league players who may struggle to earn a contact elsewhere (Shabow, Kennedy, McGing, Melling).

This season may have been our last chance of salvation...

I feel like we already have a number of players like Tongyik, if we sign a defender it needs to be an absolute 100% a-League tankard player, otherwise we will just keep rotating Rowles/Cisse/Aspro/Golec.

Maybe Herd would be a good upgrade to play DM with Tommy if Tommy is now back in the good books.
Tongyik 2 seasons ago would be a good signing. He was fkn top shelf. It's a shame he's been dudded
