Would love your thoughts on why you’re so concerned with defence Josh? I’m not saying it’s a strong lineup, but last year (until everyone switched off) defence was reletaively good, we just couldn’t score? And that was while spending the majority of the year pressing high and being ripe for the picking on transition.

Storm was way past his best after his injury, and Baro was strong but didn’t have a lot of presence on field. Cisse has very good pedigree, and Clisby looks the goods. RB looks weak, but it was last year as well.

I don’t think we have the cattle yet to pull off a back 3 against the strong sides, but I dont think it’s really any weaker than last year.

I feel like Baro is a big loss. I thought he was very good for the majority of last season and l haven't seen many good signs from Cisse but the season hasn't even started so l am judging him on pre-season. I agree the Golec-Baro was solid and we didn't concede a lot of goals, but l am concerned about Golec's fitness and hope he can stay fit for the season, Cisse l hope will show his quality in the season. All l would like is to see us not concede 49 goals like last season.

Clisby has shown good things but it's still pre-season. I like to judge our performance and player performance on the first 5 games, so we'll see what happens after the first 5 rounds.

Yep fair call on all points.

I’m thinking we will be like $ity a couple of years ago when they played back 3 when J Rose was there, lots of strike, and lots of goals scored and conceded.

It’s our depth again that is weak.
Melling first drop is a worry in the mids.
Wingers weak as well.
Back cb up has a ACL injury

Oar is a worry as well for a possible marquee. Wasn’t great at roar last time

McCormick would be absolutely amazing. You can’t foul us near the 18yr box with him

Last year our defence was one of the best in the league, in fact only a few GD short of 2nd best until we gave up in the final third of the season.

Because with Okon ball we simply refused to do anything with the ball. In some games we had 1 or 0 strikes on goal in 90mins which is simply absurd. Our defence was shit house whenever it was tested.

We managed to keep GA low for most of last season with more or less the same quality back line.

Because we refused to attack. Just hold the ball for the sake of it. Wheneever we eventually coughed it up we conceeded quickly. Baro saved us on many an occassion.

Well, if Oar and Ross is happening, then we should be scoring way more goals than the last few seasons, but then l look at the defence and wonder how we keep them out consistently. I reckon we'll be entertaining to watch this season as goals at both ends seem inevitable

Unlike last season’s imposter in the coaching role, who left all us passengers at the bus stop while he pandered to postenoclu’s theory of how to lose in attack, mm knows when a bus is required over a couple of sports cars for transport of a result............... and is not against using them.

IF ........... the two signings talked about materialise ................ mm has the tools to deflect a threepeat of the dreaded spoon.............. and that to me will restore my faith in a competitive season. :tv: .............. and make me feel guilty for not acquiring a membership :-|:-|:-|.

Home crowds like to see goals and hear the cannon boom. If we snag Oar and McCormack and Gameiro has a good season, that cannon is going to boom a lot more than it has in the past 4 seasons. If Bolt is a no-show, the fans will still come to see attacking football that results in goals.

Obviously, the big issue is how many we will concede. Winning games has a basic formula and a ratio. I know there's more to it than that, however if you attack better than you defend then you will generally win. Overall last season we defended better than we attacked. For the most part, we just could not score, therefore we drew many games and lost more than we won. Simples!

Bring on those signings! Got my fingers crossed.

Yes

Yes.......... simples !!!

and yes ........ mine are crossed as well............... BUT ............. there are some bloody strong defences being built up by very defence minded coaches. I’m thinking “-21/2 goals” is going to be very popular odds for most games ........except against us........... still.

Last season we had shocking defence in the first and last game where we conceded 6.5 goals a game. In the other 25 we conceded 36. While that could also be improved, as you said, the attack is where we lost it last year. We dominated games that we eitherDrew or lost.

If these signings come off an attack with McCormack, Simon,Gamiero, Murray, WeeMac and Oar certainly looks much more potent than last season.

I still am disappointed in the Pearce signing and hope MM doesn’t end up regretting that decision.

Does the manager and others make the decision on our keepers or is that up to Nash? There just seem to have been a few peculiar decisions relating to keepers over the years and all of them seem to have some sort of relationship with Matt Nash...
