Mariners Squad - HAL 14 - 2018- 2019 - The challenge for Mike Mulvey is over

If that's true the backlash will be furious. That is unacceptable.
We are 'feasibly' competitive with who we have IF everyone is firing fit and playing blinders every game. Which there is NO way is going to happen.
Barely enough quality, probably definitely not enough - and zero depth. Attitude can only get us so far.

Filling out the remaining squad with NPL...#&%k! Gawd damn I hope that turns out not to be true. Might as well hand back the licence with the downward spiral of dwindling membership and attendances when it's another season of more unnecessary failure - if that turns out be what happens of course.
I'll hold off the anger until I see the actual signings.
Sort of agree. Won't be happy but as I did with the previous managers including GA I'll give them half a season the decide.

Be $1m under the floor, get Bolt in under the cap to bring us up to the floor.
CCS filled each week with excited theatre goers doing the Mexican wave until he gets to chase a long ball.

If we are only signing NPL players than we have payed far, far too much for the signings we already have. Our spend towards our squad this season will actually be less than the cap floor, because we are still paying De Silva $80,000 so instead of the cap floor being for us $2.635 million it means we will actually spend 2,555,000 on players we will actually have available to us this season. Which if we have the minimum squad size we will have $127,750 to spend on each player at the minimum squad size of 20 or at the maximum squad size of 23, $111,086 to spend. Lets take a look out our squad and how I would say how much we are spending if we can only sign NPL players from now on. Keep in mind that the minimum for a player over 20 is $61,287 and under 20 is $45,686

Ben Kennedy: $61,287
Adam Pearce: $61,287
Joe Gauci: Scholarship

Jake McGing: $110,000
Antony Golec: $110,000
Jonathan Aspro: $110,000
Kye Rowles: $61,287
Jack Clisby: $110,000
Kalifa Cisse: $300,000

Michael McGlinchey: $100,000
Mario Shabow: $61,287
Adam Berry: $61,287
Tom Hiariej: $300,000
Jacob Melling: $100,000

Corey Gamerio: $110,000
Matt Simon: $300,000
Peter Kekeris: Scholarship
Connor Pain: $110,000
Andrew Hoole: $200,000

So taking a very rough estimation of what we are paying our players we should have at least $329,852 and require another 5 players to fill our side to the max squad limit at 23 at an average of $65,970 per player. That sort of spend would require us to basically exclusively recruit NPL players. If the club and Mulvey have put themselves in this sort of financial position, having not learnt from the mistakes of our season with Moss and Walmsley then we are in deep, deep trouble. It seems we are over paying and over valuing players to the extreme and that is extremely disappointing. We need to learn, and I thought we had learnt, that we have to save every cent possible, that there are very little professional opportunities in Australia and that we are in a strong bargaining position for the vast majority of players in our squad and those we sign.

MM said on Coast FM Wednesday night that the remaining four slots will go to NPL players.
If this is the case and and we are only signing NPL players, where does the club think the member numbers are going to come from? I can’t imagine they’re booming at the minute coming off the back of last season. Unless the plan actually is to trial and sign bolt :tinfoilhat:

Would Simmo have gone from reportedly min wage 2 years ago to $300,000.
Overpriced.
Hoole $200,000 also overpriced.

I could not imagine either getting a contract elsewhere in the A League above the min.

Something is not adding up.

Yeah, just trying to make sense of how we are clearly having to spend the minimum on five players. Hiariej or others could be on much more than we think or suspect.

The trouble is if we are getting trounced the theatre goers won't return.
A less diseased mind would consider it imperative to have a competitive side.
Mike appears, if these rumours are true, to be willing to pitch his circus tent on a boggy marsh.

I am finding it hard to reconcile the claims about the squad. On wednesday night mm stated uncatergorically that the team would be very different come season opening game time.:)

Now we have that there will be five npl players signed.:(

I’m sure everybody thought mm was indicating visa players late starting to save money ???:)
Now it appears that may not be so. :(Mm may have been making a political statement he needed to make ??? to appease ffa / fox critics ????

Could the money needed to sign the extra visa players have been reallocated to the coe to fix problems there ??? ...... similar to the problem I have from overspending my allowance on aldi casks and having to access the funds from my unicorn feed allocation :(

Personally ........ I think there is a light at the end of the tunnel, but it is not daylight:naughty:...........
