Is the U23 marquee still a thing?
Yes it is, though I feel the club would have been trumpeting it if De Silva was one. There was no mention of it in the club article and even if De Silva is a full marquee we could get another marquee , visa or Australian, in on loan without having to pay a cent.

DDS is huge how will he go physically. Both against defenders and recovering from ostious pubiss. That injury crippled Kewell for along time.

Oh no, I didn't know he had osteitis pubis. Absolute shit of an injury. Took me nearly two years to shake it. Don't suppose you know anything more re the severity and when he first started suffering? That's a big worry.

With the war between the clubs and FFA an possible FIFA involvement and calls today by the PFA to scrap the salary cap. It's no doubt our league is changing.

I can't help that think that change is coming and it will help casked up big city teams.

Regional sides like us and the Jest could be headed for a different future than we enjoy under the current set up.

Let's enjoy this season we are very competitive looking this year. What change is coming I don't know.

If the PFA thinks we can operate without a salary cap in this country they are mistaken. It's already geared towards the haves enough that most off the titles have gone to just 3 teams that have the ability to pay overs for their squad. I believe city's wage bill was somewhere near 9 million? I'm sure Victory and Sydney are right up there too.
This country will never, NEVER have the ability to sustain a comp without restrictions on squad salary. Build the product and its appeal and marketability and the cap will rise. Until then the haves need the have nots so they've got someone to play.
As for us I think we'll be the strongest regional team in the comp with the way is all been set up and will "survive" either way.

Now, my Dutch isn't the best, but there could be something in this
https://www.fcutrecht.nl/wout-brama-maakt-transfer-naar-australi/4

Experienced midfielder signs Down Under a contract for two seasons. Wout Brama departs directly at FC Utrecht to go on an adventure with the Australian Central League Mariners. Brama was taken over by PEC Zwolle in the last winter, despite a continuous contract. FC Utrecht did that under the same contractual conditions as the Zwollenaren so that Brama could instantly fill in the position of the seriously injured Rico Strieder. Technical manager Erik ten Hag: "Wout made the move to FC Utrecht last season and he managed to complete the gap of Rico's position. He manifested himself as a very experienced player within our team and proved a great service with his team and his leadership. Wout has been a great wish for a foreign adventure for several years now. He agreed to a transfer to FC Utrecht on the condition that the club would work on a transfer if such a unique opportunity arose. Now this chance is over, Wout wants to grab these too. FC Utrecht thanked him for his contribution and commitment in recent months and wishes him a success of Down Under. " Brama joined FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie, in the battle for the KNVB Cup and in the Europa League. In total, he played 21 parties for the Judges. The almost 31-year-old midfielder began his career at FC Twente, where he came to 231 competitions in 9 seasons. He was of great value among various trainers and celebrated various achievements in Enschede, such as the 2010 national championship. After his period at Twente, Brama passed 2.5 seasons at PEC Zwolle.

There is bugger all info much like his contract but was apparently why he left Roda. Think the 6 months he has spent getting physically stronger will hopefully help and having a break from football will help but he's got to be a breakdown risk hense us going the slowly slowly approach.

Looks to be walking fine when saw him at under 20's on Saturday and looks good on a training video on NBN news posted some where here.

We will do what we do best ( or at least used to) fly under the radar and punch above our weight. Can't wait to see us beat the Sydney's and Melbourne's.

Yep. Gotta say that if Asdrubal works out and becomes a goal scorer and DDS delivers on a bit of the promise hes shown then we could be anything with the people we have put in the spine.

Looking forward to see the attitude of the boys tomorrow night.

As I understand it, the osteitis pubis flared up pretty soon after joining Roda, and they ended up cutting short the loan because of it. That said, I don't think we need to be too worried about it. I know he's worked with some genuine specialists and has a training program designed to manage it for the rest of his career. I think this played a big role in convincing him to sign for us as well, as Okon is very big on injury prevention, management, and sports science and has his own experience of mismanaged injuries.

Daniel De Silva cleared to make debut for Central Coast Mariners in FFA Cup

Central Coast Mariners coach Paul Okon confirmed marquee signing Daniel De Silva is eligible to make his club debut on Wednesday night despite fears red tape would delay his registration.

The former Roda JC and Perth Glory attacking midfielder is set to play some part in the Mariners FFA Cup match against Blacktown City at Lily Holmes Stadium, with his international transfer clearance having been approved by Football Federation Australia.

A complicated transfer from his former parent club, AS Roma, to the Mariners was reported as having been held-up by the FFA but Okon says De Silva's registration has come through, deeming him eligible to play make his debut.

"I didn't quite understand what was written and what was said [about De Silva's registration]," Okon said. "Daniel is available for selection."

But Okon was coy as to whether De Silva is fit and ready to start against Blacktown. He is tempted to use the youngster as a bench option in their first competitive game of the season. The Mariners trained in Sydney on Tuesday where De Silva had one final chance to push his claim for a starting position in the Cup.

"He's working incredibly hard in recent months and he's put himself in a position where he's not at full 90-minute fitness so we'll manage him and get him up to the level," Okon said. "He's available for selection, he's itching to get minutes ... whether that's from the start or off the bench, we'll decide later on after training."

Sweet. Glad there was nothing in that. Hard to believe a pre season without some type of drama and just great news for us. Hope it continues tomorrow night
