So we've got one spot left and one foreigner spot. and one marquee spot

Could they all be used on the one guy? Nothing would surprise me after this off season

The only variation I see is that the wide men will be asked to vary their play. Going deep at times before cutting back, at other times cutting in and linking with DDS or pushing it out back wide to an overlapping fullback.

What please me most with the recruitment is two things. 1) Known quality players signed for multiple years, others for one year to see their potential. 2) The defensive spine looks a lot more solid.

Season before last we let in 70 goals, last season 52.

Last season we had at times a defensive block of

---------Rose------Ascroft--------

--------Monty-----McGing-------

Next season

---------Baro------Rose/Rowles/Golec--------

--------Hiariej------Brama------

I would be very surprised if we don't have close to another eighteen goals less against us this season. Another attacker wouldn't go astray, either a striker or someone like Carrusca. (now a citizen)

No like Fab. Having him would have brought a bit more to our front third. Trent and Appiah white great on a given day aren't really reliable to deliver repeatedly. Hoole obviously the back up for DDS but also expected to play wide?
We have rose berry and mcging who while young have played a good amount of aleague and it will be a shame for then to be sitting on the bench. Id say 2 of them probably won't make the squad.

The signings have been great. I think wee lack a little bit of balance in the squad
I don't think goals are gunna be our issue.
I can'T see us being clueless in the front 3rd , like last year .
Which killed so many scoring opportunities

Not having a number 10 last year cost us alot of goals. Berry and Rosebud were also very gun shy. Only Monty would have a pop from the middle and he is not a natural scorer.

I can see plenty of goals in us this year.

Goals can come from both DMs, AM, striker and wide (Pain/Hoole). Don't forget Josh Rose and Roux bombing on. That's a lot of firepower to defend against so opposition defences will have to spread as opposed to just focusing on Pain and Roy like last season

Combine with solid defence and massive team speed. We're going to be effective don't worry about that

I think he's going to take the approach of building it from the back - especially when the other team is caught out of position. If we can create an attack from literally anywhere on the park and have players who know how to spot and take advantage of out-of-position players, coupled with some players with skill to take on defenders and poach goals then most of the HAL should have a lot of trouble defending against this.
And it should be absolutely glorious to watch.

Looking at this team now id say we'll be among the top defensively and among the top in chance creation, the massive ? is finishing. Do we have a Barisha/ Fall-an-rolli level guy in Asdrubal? The intrigue and potential has made the season the most interesting one since Arnold

Bloody roller coaster off season!!
Some amazing new talent so kudos to PO & to Shaun not only in the players they have recruited but also in the tight lipped approach.
That's something we haven`t seen here for a long, long time.
With the team now taking shape, it`s good to see we now have the experienced players we lacked last season.
The depth is also looking good with players like McGing, Ascroft etc. who were starters last year needing to fight for a place in the run on side.
I`d like to see another experienced CB & another forward (if that`s not being greedy) but most importantly for Shaun is to work on re-signing PO to contract extension.
With the side he has put together, although unproven as yet, i`m confident we`ll be having a good year.

Berisha didn't do anything spectacular before the HAL, so you never know.

C'mon football gods, give us a:

And I'll crack one for Paolo, it's 5 O'Clock somewhere.

Well done to both of them

I really didn't think we 'd get an enforcer. Because I knew Okon likes and wants silky ball skills. And enforcers with silky ball skills are incredibly rare. And so they tend to spend their careers in top leagues... like you know... the bloody f**king Eredivisie!

WHAT. A. SIGNING.

Clearly also a leader. Leadership was one of the things I was most worried about in losing Monty. You can build whole teams around players like Wout. I was also worried about our balance of mental toughness. But this guy clearly has it in spades. I think Baro does too. There's also some more strength and height in the box - which will help us threaten at set pieces and not look like we're made of porcelain whenever we defend them. Not to mention a bit of intimidation not just through physicality, but by reputation I would think. Good highlight reel :headbounce: :headbounce::headbounce:
Wout will force some respect out of players, referees and pundits alike I'm sure.

Big Al, I take on board your reasoning in the front third, it's not as proven as you would like and will need to gel, but there is at least the possibility of plenty of goals in this side. I believed in Roy, but I haven't really felt we've had a lot of goals in us since we lost Weemac, Matty S and McBreen.

Think we're going to be a tough competitor this year. :pirashoot::fireup::shoutclap:

That's how I see it also.

Wout knows how to hit a ball from outside the box. Yet another thing we've been missing.

FP i agree with what everyone says about potential and room for a team contribution but just think some caution is required with our front third.

They all have potential and are not far off so if Paul can get them there then we will be a force.

DDS is huge how will he go physically. Both against defenders and recovering from ostious pubiss. That injury crippled Kewell for along time. Can he open the field for Hoole and Pain where Fab couldn't? Certainly has the skill.

Is Connar capable of scoring and assisting more goals or is he going to be good one minute poor the next. Can he be consistent.

Can Hoole finally reach his potential? Disappeared at SFC. They worked hard to get him so has skills but they dumped him just as fast. He needs confidence. Pressure is on. Fail with us and he will struggle to play any where else. If he can could be great.

How will Trent handle being clear bench player. Probably where he needs to be for a season. Has a lot of work to do. Blind speed not enough against the big boys. Had same problems as Pain

Asdrubal well we really have no idea until we get a viewing in the flesh. What sort of goals do we want from him?

There are a lot of questions to be answered by our front third in my opinion.
Hope Wombats right and it will be fine.

Either way I trust the defense if the front third struggles

I think we've got one more coming in the front third. I'm not sure but i think it's going to happen. We spoke about and were told about a marquee early in pre season and there was a cryptic facebook message from ccmfc buried in the replies of the wout release that may have alluded to a marquee. Or it may have just been my eyes saw want they wanted to see. Who knows. BUT, my money is on the "its not finished yet" box.

My reason for it? The squad just doesn't look balanced to me and after the work that PO has done I dont think he'd leave it without all players having direct competition for a place and im not sure that they all do
