FFA can take their gallery stories and shove them up their arses. What a monumentally shit way to present information, and a monumentally cynical way to boost page impressions.

We currently have 24 players contracted so it is hard to see why we would be signing anymore at the moment, unless we sell or release somebody. Are any of them still trialling or is it just a photo montage on the pre season game? I thought Burgess would have been given the flick once Powell signed.
He played really well yesterday, from all accounts he is waiting (agreed) until Jan/Feb for a certain ex Blades player to obtain citizenship. He started at left back and looked very comfy going forward. I believe from conversations last night that he'll be playing for the youth setup until then. fingers crossed
I am not sure how Giverin could be accommodated in the NYL set up, I know with the NPL academy rules only 3 overage players can be included, and they must be Australian. Don't know if this applies to NYL as well. Perhaps like Jedi he will stay on and train pending a contract.

I think it will be something to do with age that allows us to sign a couple more.

You know why that's a shit nickname? Because nobody who hasn't been on this forum for 9 years would have a clue what it's about (because it's a shit nickname derived from a similarly shit nickname derived from one tackle in a match in 2007).

Can we put it to bed already?

Lol.
Hurts to watch it but I reckon you could compile a worse one using the lowlights from Fitzy's last two seasons.

Inside Young Socceroos Camp with Buhagiar & Junior:

Liam Rose & Trent Buhagiar in camp with the Young Socceroos

Central Coast Mariners’ young guns Trent Buhagiar and Liam Rose linked up with their Young Socceroos teammates on the Central Coast this week in preparation for a range of upcoming tournaments.

The camp is the first of three that Head Coach Paul Okon will hold in the lead up to the AFF U19 Championship (11-24 September in Hanoi) and AFC U19 Championship (13-30 October in Bahrain) with the ultimate goal to qualify for the FIFA U20 World Cup in 2017. For Rose it was a return to the national team set up that he has become so familiar with since his time with the Joeys as an under 17 but for Buhagiar it was his first selection for a national team camp.

Speaking after their training session on Wednesday at Central Coast Stadium, both Rose and Buhagiar mentioned how proud they were to be selected to join the Young Socceroos in camp. “This is my new home, great place to have a camp and great facilities at Central Coast Stadium and it’s always good to be in camp,” Rose said. “We have a really important time ahead, our aim is to qualify for the World Cup and do well at that World Cup. “We’re taking it one step at a time: we’ve got a few camps coming up and an overseas tour which will prepare us well for the tournament and hopefully we get to that World Cup. “There’s no better feeling than representing your country, it’s everyone’s goal. Obviously this is the 20s and everyone wants to make it to the Socceroos but it’s a good achievement and hopefully we can both make the squad to play the qualifiers,” Rose said.

Buhagiar said being in camp with the Young Socceroos is an invaluable experience and one that he won’t be taking for granted. “I am finding it really good, the boys have made me feel welcome, training is hard but I’m just ripping in, trying to do my best and hopefully make it into the team that goes to the World Cup,” Buhagiar said. “Being asked to join a group of players to represent your country is a privilege,” Buhagiar said.

The following two training camps will be held from 8-11 August in Sydney and 22-25 August back on the Central Coast. The Young Socceroos are in Group B for the AFF U19 Championship alongside Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.

For the AFC U-19 Championship Bahrain 2016, the Young Socceroos were drawn in Group D with Uzbekistan, China PR and Tajikistan. The AFC Championship also doubles as qualifiers for the next FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Really looking forward to see how both these young guys go next month in Hanoi, Budgie especially.

Will give us good insight to how they both may fare this coming season

I know it probably doesn't count for a huge amount, but it's interesting to see little Rosie wearing the 10. Might be a glimpse into our season.

On the back of 15 or so minutes if Victory don't want to give their 16 year old NYL player Sebastian Pasquali I'd be happy to give him a first squad position a la Musti. Looks very composed for someone so young.

Didn't see a pre season thread so I figured I'd chuck a quick review thing in here of the boys game today against the scum.

Starting XI was:
Ivan
Neil Faty Monty Ascroft
Tavares L.Rose
Pain Fabio Buhagiar
O'donovan

Starting XI from the Jets that I remember in no particular order:
Kennedy, Hoffman, Mullen, Kantarovski, Ugarkovic, Hoole, Brown, Nabbout, Clut, Poljak. I think I'm only missing one...may have been Cowburn but not 100% sure.

Definitely a slow start by us. Struggled to get combos going. With Monty and Faty at CB we definitely looked less panicked but there's not a lot of pace there if we get stuck on the counter which was an issue last season. Faty was constantly talking to the back 3 and Rose in front of him. Definitely a calming influence on the back line. I think I heard Ivan talk today more than Izzo did all last season. He made a cracking save from close range as well. I criticised signing him but he did look good.
Service to Roy was again an issue and he was getting visibly frustrated. An issue that will remain IMO unless we get a class 10. Powell or Fabio in there won't fix it.
Liam Rose is a class above. Arguably, or obviously to some, our best player. If he stays past Janunary I'd be very surprised. If he goes and we don't have a plan we will be in a world of hurt. Lots of suggestion that he could play 10 but he's best suited to DM IMO.
Pain was looking lively and always wanted the ball. With more game time under his belt he will come good I think.
Brown looked okay for the Jets. Scored a cracker from outside the box to put them 1-0 up just before the break.

Second half XI was:
Ivan
Neil Mcging Monty Ascroft
Berry L.Rose
Appiah Powell Fabio
O'donovan

Jets XI was the same I think.

We played a bit better in the second half. Powell did make a difference behind Roy wits his attack on the ball but like I said before, long term he isn't the solution to us creative problems.
Appiah....well he runs fast? Did some *okay* things but it never comes to anything. He will win the ball back then run really fast and lose it.
Berry is great and teamed up well with L.Rose. If he develops like I think he can he could possible be the replacement for Liam when he inevitably goes.
Roy scored our goal about halfway through the half. Neil whipped a ball in which was headed clear by the Jets, fell to L.Rose who had a long range shot, was deflected to Fabio who headed it down for Roy who finished from just outside the 6 yard box.

Subs that were made during the half:
Bingham for Fabio, Fletcher for Roy, Mcdonald for Neil, J.Rose for Ascroft, Peterson (CCM NPL) for L.Rose and Papadimitrios (CCM NPL) for Monty.

Fletcher impressed when he came n up top. I'm hoping for big things from him this season. Was underdone when he arrived last season.
One thing to note was Izzo was the only player to get no game time. At one stage Hutcho called a sub to stop warming up and get ready. Izzo shook his head then 5 minutes later I looked at the bench and he was gone. Never came back and didn't come back out at full time.
Posco has a niggle. He was in the gym this afternoon so hopefully he will be fit for next week but who knows.
Overall not a lot of action but a decent hit out. Nothing overly surprising but nothing to get insanely exited about either. It's early days but we will have to play better next week against Green Gully. If we lose to them World War 3 could possibly be around the corner.

That's my shitty run down of this afternoon

Thanks for the run-down L B-T.

So Monty played exclusively at the back... I would expect our coaching staff to be seriously trialling different combinations for this position, rather than just throwing Monty on for game time while others were trialled at 6 and 8. I know that many of us are concerned with our lack of depth at the back - perhaps this gives us a look at our 'Plan B'?

I have a recollection that when Tavares was first in Arnold's side he played in the back four and played there for some time (mind you at my age the 'memory' is probably wrong) - wondering if this may be another back up plan in case Faty or Posco are out.
