“Mitch requested to terminate his contract which highlights why the FFA should re-consider the rules around transfer fees between Hyundai A-League Clubs, if not the smaller clubs are just going to develop players and lose them to bigger clubs with no compensation,” Storrie said.

The problem is that transfer fees have been found to be restraints of trade across multiple codes - if you want to make lawyers rich, bring in a transfer system.

Hence why no sport here has any domestic transfer fees.

Well well. I'm both disappointed and pleased.

Disappointed because with some further development Mitch was potentially a great prospect (but then again maybe not, see 'one trick pony' below)
Disappointed because he showed no gratitude or even respect for the contract he signed which lifted him out of obscurity and gave him a chance no one else was giving him.

Pleased because he is injury prone (back and foot).
Pleased because he is becoming a one trick pony (kick and chase with no right foot to speak of) that can be nullified with the right tactics.
Pleased because if he wants to be an ungrateful little sh*t he can bugger off and not ruin morale.
Pleased because I do think Pain will be the better player for us.

Welcome Connor - we wish you all the best!

Farewell Mitch - may your terrible loyalty be repaid in some way. It's not normally my thing but I'll likely boo you with pleasure.

MV fans seem pleased to see Pain gone but think they have snagged our best player:rolleyes:
Pretty good swap under the circumstances, who knows but it may also include some sort of salary subsidy arrangement for Pain.
50 games in 3 seasons for MV but mostly as a sub, only 3 goals, still only 22, left footed winger/striker, my previous impression of him was that he was busy and provided a threat up front.
Adds more experience to the squad compared to Austin and probably understands the notion of tracking back.
Agree, Muscat will rip Austin a new one.

3 goals thought he was a better finisher than that. Was thinking his striking ability was superior to Austin but maybe not.

Might be better than Austin if he gets to start a few games. He's been behind the Kiwi prick the last 2 years down there, only 1 start in that time.

I really, really want to believe Connor Pain is the better player and we got a good deal but I just can't see it. He's had a total of three goals in 53 appearances and while only 17 of those were starts it's pretty poor considering Victory would be in all out attack mode if he was brought on. Maybe my old Heart bias is shining through but I never really rated him. He has represented the Socceroos, Olyroos and Young Socceroos so has some decent pedigree. I think Austin and Pain are very similar players hopefully a change of environment helps Pain get an edge.

I like Pain. He has a lot of potential and a he's got more graft than Austin. We need that at the Mariners. Prima donnas don't suit underdog sides.

He hasn't had his chance and will surely be keen to take it.

Austin will be under pressure at MV, and not sure he'll manage it. Tipping his season with a spooning CCM will likely be a better one than a likely top six with Victory this year.

Austin is now going to have to perform at Victory whereas with us he was always afforded a start despite not always earning it.

That's not going to happen under Muscat, he wont cut him any slack & if someone else is performing better than you, then they play.

Muscat will break him imo.

What a massive boost! Pain is full of potential, he was behind a good one at Victory, lacking opportunity. He is quick, technically sound, smart and will defend. Just what we needed. Swapping a Socceroo for a League 1 one trick pony - no brainer! Already the defence will be happy.

I think the biggest advantage will be in Pain's on-field attitude.

Connor will have a point to prove.

Austin thought he didn't have to.

BREAKING NEWS: Mariners gain Connor Pain

The Central Coast Mariners have landed a major signing coup, luring former Melbourne Victory attacker Connor Pain to the Yellow & Navy who has put pen to paper on a two-year-deal.
At just 22-years-of-age, Pain managed 53 Hyundai A-League appearances with Melbourne Victory since signing his maiden professional contract with Victory during the 2012/13 season.

Beyond his Hyundai A-League experience, Pain made headlines in 2013 for his impressive performance in front of more than 95 000 people at the MCG against Barclays Premier League outfit, Liverpool.

Pain also boasts experience in national team set-ups having represented Australia at the 2013 U20 World Cup, which was followed by a call up to the Socceroos senior team for the 2013 EAFF East Asian Cup where he made his debut against China.

The Hong Kong born attacker made 12 Hyundai A-League appearances during the 2015/16 season and arrives on the Central Coast with a wealth of experience for such a young player.

Pain is excited to join the Mariners and is looking forward to meeting his teammates at the Central Coast Mariners Centre of Excellence for pre-season.

“It feels good, I flew up this morning and everyone seems so friendly so I just can’t wait to get going,” Pain said. “I know Paul Izzo very well and a couple of the other lads but I am really looking forward to meeting everyone else.

“I just want to help the Mariners do well, obviously last season wasn’t the best year for our club but I am really looking forward to doing my bit and help them climb the table.

“Hopefully the fans see me as an exciting player, obviously I like to get the ball out wide predominantly, run at players, get in behind to shoot and cross so I’m hoping to show the fans a lot more of that than I did last year,” Pain said.

Although Pain admits that he is determined to break back into the Socceroos squad, performing well for the Central Coast Mariners is his immediate focus.

“It’s a dream of mine of course to wear the green and gold again but that’s not what this is about, this is about coming here and playing games of football, doing well and you can’t look too far down the track in football,” Pain said.

“I’m still learning but I come here knowing the pressure of this environment, it’s been three or four years that I’ve played as a professional now and I want to help some of the even younger boys and learn from the older boys,” Pain said.

Head Coach Tony Walmsley touted the signing of Pain is a fantastic recruit for the Central Coast Mariners who will be key to his attacking plans this season.

“He’s a great acquisition, for somebody so young he’s got great experience with 50 odd appearances including a Socceroos Cap and a youth World Cup player,” Walmsley said. “With the way we are going to approach things this year in terms of work ethic and contribution all over the pitch he fits the new model perfectly so we’re all very excited to have him on board.

“He can play anywhere across the front four positions but most likely he’s going to play in the wide areas and push our existing wingers for starts.

“Connor has always given his opponents problems, he makes forward runs, he attacks the back of people, he can go one-on-one, he can cut inside so he’s everything we want from an attacking player and I think with those attributes he’s a great acquisition to the players we’ve already brought in this season,” Walmsley said.

I'm a known sycophant but I think this is the best result for the club. We've cut loose a player who didn't want to be there and had the potential to make the dressing room toxic - and gained a player with a fair bit of potential.

Time will tell how it goes on field but I'm positive.

Why not just announce it yesterday for what it really was ....... 'a-swap'.

Announcing him as a 'new-signing' gives the ordinary punter the impression that we targeted him when in reality (no disrespect to the the kid) but ultimately he's the spoil of a 'mexican stand-off' with a petulant little prick.

Connor, I think will easily be an improvement on Bitch Austin.

• Pace wise, similar.
▪ More minutes in the A-League overall
• 'Technically Superior' with the ball at his feet
• Isn't one dimensional (kick/chase/ ....rest)

& will have a far greater attitude, which will be beneficial to the team over the course of the season.

Highly doubt Pain will have a 'sook' when he's dropped for the first time
........ or the second.

Of what else was available to CCM out there to negotiate with at the alternative clubs, who knows who was on offer ???

But, he's alright.
We got the better half of the deal imo
........ in the long run.

Would of been nice if Walmsley had of said things like:

"Connor's not just a one dimensional speedster, but he can come inside - with both feet and is also a proven crosser of the ball into the area. Also shows a good appetite for defending as well in tracking back and helping his defenders"

Just rub it in Tony.
