I like te fact that he refers to last year not being great for "our" club, not the club! Shows commitment and thought. Hopefully it is sincere and he proves himself.

Well, another player added to the roster gets the blood pumping to the neither regions for the season - that can't 'cum quick enough' (see what i did there).

BUT a quality signing of an AM, the ilk of Brett Holman or similar will be 'the money shot'. :tv:

Add in a 'security' CB, like a Gallifuoco & I'll be feeling like John Holmes going into this upcoming season.

Edit: with Pre-Season training already begun, the sooner these x2 additional signings are done, the better the squad will gel and we will be better for it come Rnd1 HAL V12.

Best part is he has signed for 2 yrs (not that a contract means squat).
Not only reasonably fair swap we got a young talent for two years over a sook for 12 months less whing time on the bench.

Hope Pain works out as he meets the Mariners model of young with potential to on sell if kicks on. If can rediscover the form that made him a national junior should be a good pick up.

I hope they play him over Budgie. Budgie should be the sub for the year unless injury dictates. Don't play one this week and the next. We don't need that and Pain needs an extended run

That 3-0 first half in Geelong must have given Muscut a bigger nightmare than we realised because he has gone all out to get Austin.
I wish Austin nothing but the worst.

He can now join the other rejects as nobody's in Melbourne

Don't they play on opposite sides? In my head at least, Pain for Austin was a pretty straight 1:1 in terms of where/how they play, although from Tony's comment Pain is a bit more versatile, which is nice.
I'm assuming our frontline will look something like this:

Royo
Pain Ferreira/Bingham/Budgie

Isn't that about the size of that end?

In fact, that has a potential starting line-up looking something like this:

---------------- Royo ----------------
--------Pain ------------ Ferreira/Bingham/Budgie
---------------- ????? -----------------
Tavares/Rose Jr ----- Monty
Neil -- Faty -- Posco -- Storm-boy
-------- Who Knows? --------

Apart from the GK and CAM, that's a lineup with a bit of potential in it I think - which is interesting because that's sort of how I saw the lineup last season too ;) For mine they're all boys that ought to be able to win some games, although with Austin and Caceres gone, it feels like we should already be ahead in the discipline stakes.

On top of that I guess we still have Ascroft and McGing competing for bench space - not too shabby on paper when you actually sit here looking at it.

Oh wait... Fletcher plays on the same side doesn't he? :)

Shit forgot all about him. Thanks for the downer.

Budgie does play on the right but that's Fab's and if you want to make it you need some flexibility and Pain is no guarantee so I think they'd be in competition but as you say the tractor does idle on the left.

Left: Pain and Fletcher
Middle: O Donovan and Bingham
Right: Fab and Budgie

Pretty much all bar O Donovan are flexible and can play anywhere across the front

Certainly makes Fornaroli, Navillo Cahill look ordinary

Screaming for a quality #10....

Unless

Fraudsley goes 442 or 4411 to try and be a bit more compact in the 5 games before he gets the punt.

Based on last year I think he prefers a 433

And a #10 doesn't suit TW

I saw 'sweet F-A' last year tactically that went through an Attacking Mid.

Walmsley mostly played the flanks & the counter-attack. A petulant Caceres alternating with Garcia, who played most of his golden years out wide certainly didnt help his situation.

That's why we desperately need a high quality AM, to teach him a thing or 2. ;)

Then our football can evolve and provide us with what's truly needed to win a Championship
....... versatility in your style of play.

Dugandzic would be perfect for this! Was just released by Adelaide and can be creative as well as playing as a winger!

I've got a feeling Rosie Jnr will be our 10. He did enough last year to get serious game time this year, but with both Monty and Tavares in DM, I don't think he will get much in that role. He would be a priority On-Sell player for us, so I reckon Charlesworth may push for time in the 10.

Having said that I think it's a terrible idea at this stage of his career.

Dugandzic would be alright (& cheap)
BUT we need a Holman esq. quality player in the AM role.

It would greatly change the 'what's possible' & 'whats not' this season.

What I'd love to see is Monty or Fab get citizenship and get a quality Spaniard or German 10. We need someone very technical, with good concentration. And they need to be a specialty 10. Not a converted winger or forward or DM imo.

Roy makes great runs. He MUST have the best service we can buy him if he's going to have the season we all suspect he can.
