Ungrateful little b*** :( In this particular case, I don't care too much whether Tony's a good coach or not - he was picked from f****** oblivion and given a chance, the least he could do is honour his f****** contract. :(

Not impressed...

No way, that improves our opponents.

A contract is a contract son.

You can sit in the stands with the rest of us until TW is sacked.

All those teams need Aussie wingers. There aren't many to go around so no way. All these teams could slip back to us this year because of the players they are losing.

We must not be weak.
No swap

As soon as those teams fill there spots he will be back with his tail between his legs.

Stay strong management, show the young kids they can't bully us to leave once other teams start to take notice. You are playing here for a reason.

Be really pissed if they cave, even for a swap

If we're offered a better player or a player with more potential, we're nuts not to take the deal.

I guess I'm a bit butthurt 'cause Austin was often the most exciting part of a pretty dismal year.

COYY.

For all of Austin's strengths his attitude was mud in many games and his crossing ability was constantly called into question. Kind of a pre-requisite for a winger, no?

If we get a comparable/better player that we need in exchange, I'm OK with it
If not, then he needs to return for pre-season, train and make himself available for selection
If he refuses to show up to pre-season as rumoured, the club should sue his ass for breach of contract and make an example of him

There's know doubt Austin got speed to burn but technically falls short on a lot other areas of his game , so if where smart he could be a good bargaining chip or cash in . There was many games where he looked one dimensional .

Some swap idea's Austin for Ben Khalfallah , Ollie Bozanic, jason Geria,
Dylon Mcgowan, Carrusca ect , if the other clubs are serious of a swap let's not cheap talk then we'll see what Austin is really worth

Agree, but butthurt can't cloud broader judgments about whether he's got growth potential (I'm not sure he does) and whether there might be a trade out there that suits us better (and there may well be).

Also this!

It's all predicated about getting a positive net result. You don't trade him for a Marc Warren, for example, and if that's on the table he can either buck up or he can f**k off the the NYL for the year. But if someone offers Dimi Petratos, I'd have their arm off.

It's all still rumours of course and may not be true (i think it is true for the record).

I agree with most of what's been said above however

Well shit.

Austin set to leave Mariners
Forward Mitch Austin has asked for a release from the Central Coast Mariners and is set to depart the A-League club.

FourFourTwo understands that there are up to five A-League clubs interested in signing the young attacker, who is still under contract to the Mariners next season.

They include Melbourne City, Adelaide United, Newcastle Jets, Western Sydney and Melbourne Victory.

A player swap has been mooted with another A-League club to allow Austin to leave Central Coast Stadium.

The 25-year old, who joined the Mariners in 2015, scored five goals in 23 appearances last season.

The forward and his management were unavailable for comment when contacted by FourFourTwo.

Central Coast coach Tony Walmsley did not return calls.

It is understood Austin, who was a junior with Rotherham United in the UK, believes he has a better chance to develop as a player away from the Mariners.

Would take the just signed wunderkid Daniel Arzani from Melbourne City, Stefan Mauk or Marcello Carrusca from Adelaide, Morten Nordstrand from the Jets, Mitch Nichols or Scott Jamieson from the Wanderers or Oli Bozanic from Victory anything less than these guys and we're getting ripped off.

Firstly, if a player wants out please let him go, a win win for both parties. I think it is wishful thinking hoping to get a higher profile player. Make the comparison, Austin would be traded for a $60K/y player. I've said it before his performance, whilst exciting at times was ordinary if not poor. Penguin - I liked your list until you got to Nichols and Jamison. The bubble burst on Nichols mid seaon and WSW may have won the premiership with a better left back, he was horrible particualrly in the finals, could arguably be blamed for 2 goals. I'd love Olie back.

It was probably rather wishful thinking from me but we should get someone decent for him as he is wanted by half of the league. I don't think a player such as Makarounas, who Victory are going to release anyway, is enough. Maybe Deng, Nigro or Howard together with Makarounas would be a decent deal?

This link went up today, already out of date though as City have secured Brattan and Caceras as loans.
Would like a #10 signing to be impressive rather than what little is on offer locally for a realistic swap arrangement.
Makarounas has not been re-signed by MV, so he would be a signing not a swap if there is any substance to the rumours.
Gallifuoco was also not re-signed, he would be a decent CB signing, rumour has it Donachie is going to MV.
Agree with Coach, the sort of players these clubs would be considering for swaps would be Mells, Clisby, Baccus, Aspropotamis.

Dylan McGowan or Ollie (versatility including LW and AM) or he can sit on the bench. We can do better at left wing including players we currently have. Neil, Rose, McDonald, Fletcher and Bingham can all play there and I would prefer some of them over him anyway. CB and #10 are our need and these two are the minimum we need in each of the positions. Jesse Makarounas might be a good squaddie - but we need to do better than that.

I can't see either happening so he better get used to splinters or he needs to call a few OS contacts to get a gig over there after a suitable fee.

Milk with no sugar, yes please!

I think he's a hell'uva lot more than a headless chook, I know you do too PJ. ;)

He reads sides playing out from the back very well, and that enables him to intercept a lot of balls when he's sitting in behind a striker and or working with one.
Indeed would compliment Roy very well, especially in his high energy work rate.

Knows how to find space between the lines and just as importantly can play others into space with some clever passes.

As PJ said, has a proven record for finding the back of the net & at 32, I think could easily play for 3 maybe 4 more seasons in the A-League.

Sign him up, now ! :shoutclap:

Caught me. :innocent:

I know that we are running tight but we have to take advantage of the money from the FFA and the Everton connection. Give me a swap of Austin for McGowan, bring in Holman with the FFA help and add a young gun like Kieran Dowell on loan from Everton and I will be a very happy camper.

If we can't get McGowan let Austin go with a transfer fee and play back in England or Vietnam if he wants out. Another loanee from Everton for CB might have to suffice.

The rumours have been around Victory... I've seen Makarounas mentioned among others.

Um, Melbourne Victory cant trade what they no-longer own ;).

http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2016/05/28/makarounas-and-murnane-add-victory-departures

Makarounas IS a free agent, was released by Victory along with Archie, Dylan Murnane and the guy on the left above who would've been an ideal trade for 'Bitch' Austin ..... Olyroo CB - Giancarlo Gallifuoco!

Not to matter, we can sign GG irrespective - just do it already ! :headbutt:
