Off contract A-League players
Today's Feature: Melbourne City
James Brown
The 26 year old youth international has struggled for game time since leaving the Jets. A former goal of the year winner could be a decent experienced back up (if we have no promising youngsters in attacking midfield coming through) on minimum wage after we sign a starting attacking midfielder.
Wade Dekker
The 22 year old striker scored in his first two senior appearances and looked set to be a rising star before injury struck. The former Northcote City youngster could be a good back up striker/winger if Trent Buhagiar is seen to need competition.
Aaron Hughes
The former Premier League defender can be considered nothing but a flop for Melbourne City. Near constantly injured and only making six appearances the 36 year old couldn't break into the Melbourne City defence. Seeing as we've already used a visa spot on a central defender and the Northern Irishman didn't show particularly much in his limited game time at Melbourne City I'd say it's highly unlikely we'll see him in a palm tree shirt next season.
Patrick Kisnorbo
The Melbourne born hard nut centre back has been a main stay in the Heart and City defence since his signing in 2013. Often criticized by Heart fans his lack of pace has been found out numerous times in the past few years. Could do well if paired with a younger quicker player and offers a wealth of experience for younger players. Should only be considered on minimum wage.
Robert Koren
The former Hull City captain struggled to imprint himself on the A-League and was kept out of his preferred position by Aaron Mooy. Was near constantly quoted as his talents being "wasted" he was kept out of creative midfield by Mooy and then false nine by Fornaroli. The Slovenian international only real accomplishment of note in the A-League was a hat trick against the Newcastle Jets in his starting debut. However he is an accomplished international and a free agent at the moment. We could do worse and may have a point to prove in the A-League. Should only be considered if we can not scout or through our Everton partnership do better.
Marc Marino
The Young Socceroo was kept out of the Melbourne City making only four appearances (all of the bench) but still managed a goal in round 26. The Adelaide born 18 year old could be a good back up striker/winger for Roy O'Donovan and could provide competition for places. If released by Melbourne City could be an option as a minimum wage signing.
Michael Zullo
The attacking socceroo left back made 15 appearances this season but seemingly won't be resigned by Melbourne City. Has spent time in Europe and could push Micky Neill if signed. Is a versatile player that can also play left wing. Will be in demand if released however and is not in a position we overly require new players so is rather unlikely to be in a Mariners shirt next season.
