This is not an attack on Izzo - rather an area that he could improve on. He has come along incredibly this season after what must have been a horrible last season for him and he deserves enormous credit for having the grit and steel to come back so well.

Reddy was always the wrong player. We never replaced Ryan and in some ways we still haven't. Izzo is playing well but compare him to Thomas in the game against Victory. When Izzo made a save he slowed down played, the defence got set and we usually played out short from the back. Thomas made the save and immediately released - either short or long, but always to a Victory player and we were scrambling to stop a quick counter. That's what Maty did - and that is what we didn't replace.

Reddy - because of his poor distribution - exacerbated by an inexperienced defence meant that he had to show his prowess as a shot-stopper (which is admittedly pretty good). However, the extra pressure always told and we were invariably punished. Under Okon our playing out from the back is more assured. If Izzo could just speed up the distribution to allow our fast players to break before the defence is set we could be really dangerous.
As soon as he stands up I'm like Go! Go! I can usually see at least one player he can release to but no, he waves them up the field...
On Reddy, he was an asset to the team from the day he joined to the day he left. He saved 2 penalties only this week. Sure he's no Ryan, but who is?

I'd take Carney, if only for our dead ball which is woeful these days. We've always been weak on dead ball since His Jediness left, but we're particularly bad now, Mrdja bad!

The game is a team game - not an individual game. You are not an asset to the team if you don't fit into the team.

Reddy - was not an asset - because he was not what the team needed.. Again he is a very good shot stopper. But he panics when pressed which then panics his CBs. Since we had inexperienced CBs he was the wrong man for the job. Danny, Covic, Moss or Theo or more lately Thomas are the sort of keeper we needed.

Reddy panics under pressure in distribution the same way that Velaphi, Pasfield, Bouzanis and Redmayne do while being a better pure shot stopper than any of them. TBH he is probably as good a shot stopper as any I have mentioned there. Reddy does his best work with experienced CBs because he takes confidence off them. He does worse with inexperienced CBs not only because he instils panic in them but because he does not take confidence from them.

The team was very happy having a shot stopper like Reddy behind them. If he had been able to instil expand his game and had been able to instil confidence into his team with his distribution then he would be the most wanted keeper in the HAL rather than a journeyman

Vidosic negotiating a release from his current club, would Paolo know him from olyroos days?

Yes please.
Absolutely. And MarinerMick posted on SFCU that the club is negotiating with City to try to get Connor Chapman. Good call I reckon.

I thought he was good in the younger NTs and went backwards under GVE. Good footballer that seemed to do too many nasty tackles at the scum. If he can get back to being a footballer then he would be worthwhile.

Connor would be an awesome pick up. Vidosic would be better than an out of position Powell too. They'd probably work really well together.
That would be probably the best outcome of any January we've had.
Id expect vidosic would go back to Adelaide though.

Was very good for the Jets but never seemed like he properly settled in at City.

Within days of joining his new Melbourne City team mates for the commencement of pre-season training, Connor was diagnosed with glandular fever. This debilitating illness saw him miss the whole of the 2014/15 A-League pre-season, along with the first eight matches of the season.[18] Despite this setback, Connor sought to repay the Club's faith by turning in some impressive displays, once back on the park.[19][20] "

Goes on to say that before he was a scummer he went to the Mariners academy then went off to the AIS and a couple years later signed for the scum... so that counts for something. And the fact he had the moral clarity to leave the scum speaks very highly of him. And if he wants to turn down the dirty oil money and leave the soulless shores of City for us... well then, quite clearly he has a very good head on his young shoulders :)

Hasn't stared in five games for City, talented young player getting splinters, was overly prepared to hate him as a scummer, but I thought he was very good in the U/20s U 23's... certainly see Okon's hand in this. Smart pickup if we get him imho.

CCM... The club that doesn't just pretend to give young players a chance. Come all ye faithful and talented young footballers.

Speaking of talented young players.... Vidosic certainly was, but he was a poor marquee for Adelaide. I think his signing was why we landed Flores? Anyway their South Americans since have fared much better (barring this year) Bottom line, I think his work ethic is poor and he's soft. Maybe Okon could get more out of him, but he's never worked out where he goes and greatly over rated. We could do worse... but ideally we need a player to help Monty and Tav run our games, and Vidosic goes missing more than my last dog. And he was off almost weekly.

Vidosic at Adelaide 60 games, 15 goals 13 assists. By comparison Musti who we all loved - 45 games, 4 goals 0 assists. I thought he was good at Adelaide - at WSW I thought he was poor.

Incidentally, I saw Vidosic at the airport in Adelaide just before New Year's. He was departing as I was arriving...

Yeah I know, I'd actually read his stats and was questioning my opinion before I posted, I really rated him as a young player, but I watched almost every game AU played those years and he very rarely impressed me - I thought he was being massively over hyped, but they are solid stats. I think him being a 'marquee' and Harper fapping over him may have clouded my judgement. And I still think he's soft and a whinger - which always biases me. At WSW I watched less of him.

Musti was 16 and I think mainly celebrated for his obvious talent, and of course his hair.

Didn't have the chance to watch him at Adelaide but was very poor with the Wanderers. He was pretty badly treated by his European club apparently though (forced to train through injury). I think he could be a good signing if China hasn't affected him adversely.

sounds like would be a good pickup.
Talented junior who's national duties effected his playing time.
Another Connar and Galloway
Plenty of room in our CB's to play if he good enough

Mitch Cooper released by the jets. He has always looked lively and wants to get on the ball when I've seen him play. Nice little summary by Scott Miller when asked about the player this time last year:

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/...to-score-a-second-chance-20160213-gmth91.html

What happens next, Miller says, is up to Cooper.

"Is he willing and able to go to the next level? That's up to him and his own mentality," Miller said. "The way he looks after himself away from the training ground, the extra work he's willing to put in and his own desire.

"He's technically a good player, but unfortunately for a lot of footballers in Australia it's getting quicker and stronger and the more powerful athletes coming into play. When you have two ACL injuries, you lose two years of your life. Not only technically and tactically, but physically.

"The demands of the game have only improved since the time he's been out. It's not as if the game's stood still.

"He's finding himself having to work even harder off the training ground, do extra conditioning work to get himself up to base level. That's always going to be the challenge."
