I find it amazing how quickly people are willing to stick the boot into players based on a couple of coach comments without knowing the full story.

Both these guys (while not being superstars) have given a lot to this club and while they haven't filled their potential, deserve to be spoken about on a better way IMO.

I agree... Although once that's said, I think it's also worth bearing in mind that the comments that have come out about this in the last week-or-two, have made a few things click with some fans, explaining perceived attitudes and actions.
Not only that, but currently the alternative seems to be to blame TW and Hutch and call for them to go - I don't think that's entirely fair either.

Although once that's said, I actually thought the tone in the post you replied to, was nicer than some of the other posts... At the end of the day, bear in mind that the club is in a fix right now and it's hard to avoid feeling like they'd rather run for a club which is better placed, than stick it out and help improve the situation.

Welcome Bell,

I have no problems with Fitzy, I think he will dig in and try and remedy his own situation. On the other I don't afford Caceras the same luxury, I don't think he will ever battle for the shirt more than himself and he is also represented by a used car salesman of an agent who seems to be fabricating anything to get him out of his contract.

In terms though of giving a lot to the club, I am not sure quite what you mean? Have they gone above and beyond the call of duty outside of their contractual obligations? Or do you mean they have just been contracted for an amount of time?

Remember this is a forum, although you may not agree with everyones opinion they have the right to make it whether its right/ wrong/ meaningless/ fabricated etc

The boot wasn't put in because of a couple of coach comments. In terms of Caceras it was being put in long before that because of form and perceived lack of commitment.

In Fitz's case there was no apparent lack of commitment but many did question his ability to play at this level.

The comments about players leaving due to unpaid super was revved up by the PFA acting on the players' behalf.

However the boot will always be put in by fans to players who wish to leave the club and break their contracts, not because they have a better offer overseas, but because things are not going well.

That shows a lack of commitment to the club they signed with, which is intolerable to all supporters and they deserve all they get.

I'm not saying the players are right and the club is in the wrong but the majority of us on here know very little as to what is going on, and the players themselves are not in the position to defend themselves publicly. Bit of unfair fight if you ask me.

I personally believe there is a lot more to this story then what we've been told. I guess it's normal to have one or two players not happy with the system but we're now talking about 6,7,8 (incl. bos and reddy) players getting booted for a perceived 'poor attitude' and a few of them (sim, Fitzy, trifiro) would be the last players you'd suspect.

By the way, I have no issue with others having a different view to mine, I realise it's a public forum.

Hope it's true though, and they're all joining the "RACE".

The boot? Really? The boot?

How ironic. A saying that is specifically about not kicking something when it's down. And you don't want unkind words about two players who have just put the worst possible kind of boot in, right when we're as down as we've EVER been,
as you think THAT is putting the boot in?

Ok, what is the "full story" Bell? Because from where I sit I trust TW and Hutch to be a lot less self interested at this point, as the very last thing they needed was to lose two starting 11 players - and while the club is at least looking for some kind of renumeration, though being pressured to accept nothing after years of investment, I'm sure they had hoped the players would finally both have their break out seasons like many before them, and leave for great deals, leaving behind happy fans and memories. Certainly what I wanted.
So honestly, can you please share their hard done by story? Because on current evidence, their want-away status and imminent departure really does look to be about serving theirs and their managers self interests right when the club and team is struggling, not because they have been mistreated.

"given a lot"
Well they were contracted to give quite "a lot" more. But this is a silly discussion point. They are professional footballers who have been nursed through to professional careers by this club from youth, been given every opportunity and have been well paid to do one of the best jobs in the world.
That's fine, that's what good clubs do. But if you then turn around and try to break your contract and willingly abandon the club when it's struggling because you and your agent don't see it as the best pathway for your career and $ value - ok, you can - but it's beyond naive to think fans will utter kind words or that they "should" do so. Respect the club, respect your contract, respect your coach, respect your team mates, and respect your badge by always giving 110% and you will have more than kind words on here.

If you don't respect those things, then any criticism is well and truly "deserved". Who knows, maybe they'll even learn from it. I hope so, because a culture of self entitlement and pandering is already rife enough and will surely not come to any good.

Anyway, I'm glad you're the kind of person who likes to stick up for people Bell, and your entitled to say what you believe. But as you have just noted, so am I. So if you don't expect me to censor my opinions because you think they should be different or that they may offend someone, then better to not make that as the point of your post.

Not knowing the "full story" is a better discussion. So again if you know it, please share. because there are some pretty concrete looking facts on the other side of this argument.

Interesting point Bell.

Financially they have endured problems at this club. Unpaid wages and unpaid superannuation. That's enough for any of us to get the shits and leave our jobs. Mouths to feed and mortgages to pay
But why now do they want out?
Was it the promise that if the superannuation wasn't paid they could leave and they got excited as their agents found them alternative employment. If so why get the PFA to ark up in public. This made CCM cough up as they knew the consequences of not.

Caceras agent has hit the media hard about interested clubs but not just overseas but in the A League. This is inflammatory.

Why now when these players were first choice and should be in there prime are they being called out by the coach? It's surely more than just loosing. As soon as they are dropped we hear comments about playing for the badge not name on the back. A direct shot at them saying they aren't putting in which we as fans felt. We have been grumbling about Caceras pretty much all year for lack of production and recently effort. watch recent games and when Caceras turns it over he drops his shoulders and whines. Get over it and hassle to make up for it.
Fitzy tries hard he just isn't good enough. Sim as well.

If you want to do good by your employer and fans don't be caught deliberately mentioning SFC which has already a reputation for skinning us alive.

As for the others you raise an interesting point. Why? My guess is either trying to stick up for there mate or in my mind being pushed because they are to old and can't be on sold while not being deemed good enough for the A League. Their contracts are likely to be expiring in 6 months. Not saying it's right just my belief. When TW took over talked about being stuck with the current roster with no room to move. Is this all part of a clean up.

As fans we won't you to play your heart out for us, win if possible but it's not the only thing we want but if you have other issues don't be all over the media about. Don't get us wrong here Caceras or his representatives either the PFA or Agent have been all over the media about his issues.

As employees we wouldn't stand for this form of financial instability either but as fans we expect other things. Seems to me to be a little to convenient as we are finally paying our way but because we are loosing and things a little tough on the field the toys are coming out of the cot.

Bell why do you think they were told to train elsewhere (allegedly) and didn't even make the team recently?

Dan Heffernan told "I'm no longer needed/free to find my way back to Heidelberg today".

Oh dear. Can't say I'm surprised though. Can obviously shoot - but clearly not at HAL level physically.

Gotta say - different to the Cas and Fitz, that seems like stuffing him around quite a bit there... We had him on trial, decided he was worth a go, signed him on contract, then 6 months later decide to let him go with a "good luck"... Isn't there some sort contractual obligation for us there as well?

SBS reporting Holman could be looking at joining an A-League team at 31 he is still young and he had a huge engine when playing for Australia could be decent signing a no nonsense box to box midfield player with IMO a reasonable amount of skill...

63 national caps could be a good marketing point as well...

He's deleted the tweet...
Deleting the tweet makes it even more interesting.
CCM ask/tell him to ??? Hmmmm ???
When was Heff told this ?

If before the 'Roy gets 8' announcement this arvo then I think TW might want to reconsider letting Heff go.

Hmmm ok thanks :)

Not entirely unreasonable then... they haven't tried to cut him loose, just letting him know that he won't get an extension so would probably be best off trying elsewhere.
Seems fair

Club needs to be honest. Best for the player. Simply not up to it. They obviously were too naive, desperate skint, or all of the above when signing him. And...

Cue sydsimonwhinger...

And he'd actually have a point. Albeit made four hundred thousand three hundred and ninety seven times.

Austin believes winning ways can continue:

mitch_zpsq6vdkgpf.jpg

Central Coast attacker Mitch Austin says it is a relief to get back to winning ways and the Mariners will now face the rest of the season with renewed belief.

The Mariners had not won a game since round one of the 2015/2016 campaign, when they downed Perth 3-2 at home, until the 3-1 triumph over Wellington last weekend.

Austin has been one of the Mariners’ best in a difficult season and bagged a first-half goal against the Phoenix.

“It was a tough game but I thought the boys in midfield played excellent, which gave the front three licence to attack and win us the game,” the winger told FourFourTwo.

“Yes it was a relief, it's been a while since our last win so it was relief for everyone at the club to finally get back to winning ways again. It's always a good feeling to get on the score sheet.

“I know I need to be scoring more goals so hopefully I can back it up again this weekend.”

Central Coast remains on the bottom of the A-League ladder, four points below Perth Glory.

Austin, who is in his first A-League season since arriving from English club Cambridge United in June, said some of the Mariners’ performances in recent weeks haven’t been rewarded with positive results.

“I guess you could say that, a lot of decisions have gone against us this season so it was nice to have a bit of luck on our side and to get the win,” he said.

The forward has been a regular this season, playing in all but two of the Mariners’ fixtures this season, scoring two goals and Austin said he is enjoying his time in the A-League.

“It's been great so far, obviously the results haven't been great as a team but I feel myself I'm playing some good football and I think the more games I play the better I'm going to become,” he said.

“I think I've adapted really well, I wasn't really suited to the lower league English football. The A-league is a really technical league with better players and I feel that's helped me immensely.”

The Mariners have been criticised from several qualities because of their results, their attacking philosophy and owner Mike Charlesworth’s reluctance to open his purse strengths to strengthen the squad.

But Austin believes the players haven’t been affected and remained focus on the job at all.

“No not really, it's part and parcel of the game you are going to get criticism when things aren't going well,” he admitted.

“We are just concentrating on improving each day and doing the best we can for each other. Even though the results have been poor everyone has still been in good spirits as we have been playing good football, just things haven't been going our way at the minute.”

The Mariners face Melbourne Victory at Central Coast stadium on Friday and Austin believes if his team’s keeps the same mentality then the Mariners can trouble the defending champions.

“I think all we needed was a win again to give everyone that belief that we can win games,” the 24-year old said.

“Melbourne Victory will be a tough test this weekend but if we play with the same attitude as we did against Wellington we will get a positive result from the game.”
