If it's idle speculation you like, there's always the thought that if Bosnar were the one on the outer then maybe a certain former Mariner who has a contract overseas that expires in December might be a good prospect to come home and fill any vacancy that might arise.

I give that a 2 thumbs up & so does "HE"

Oooooooookaaaaaaay...

Considering the vital role of sleep in recovery, not having a comfortable place to sleep doesn't exactly come in the top-1000 of "things I think of as good ideas for pre-season training".

Pre-game of Rnd1 in the Kendall Walmsley spoke about doing pre-season camp with a current unidentified SAS soldier.

Surprised by which players 'broke' when under put under pressure, like doing tasks such as Counting grains of rice with tweezers o_O whilst sleep -deprived.

At a guess I'd say the bunks were at the Mariners Guantanamo.

NO MATTRESS, will certainly aide sleep deprivation :p, but most likely team arrived to bare quarters not yet set-up.

By Reddy posting the pic, perhaps the Club see's this action as a 'suggestion' the club provides sub-standard accommodation/provisions for players, or suggesting Charlesworth's going cheap again or just a flat-out breach of trust by disclosing publicly what the club are actually doing pre-season to gain a competitive edge.

In the Kendall, Walmsley made no bones about wanting to find out what the squad was made of both physically and mentally.

Perhaps Tony had totalled-up & had a 'Sum of all Fears' ....
- releasing the photo
- a pre-season 1 week suspension
- a boot camp where 'what the fcuk does counting rice got to do with football ???' non compliance type of scenario.
- 'If you don't like it... I don't give a fcuk!' quoted verbatim &published in media when interviewed as CCM player.
- his previous misdemeanours/reputation from other clubs
- & whatever else we aren't aware of

All compile & Walmsley say's 'I've seen enough, he's DONE!'

That's probably Brice's doing, as part of the boot camp at Anna Bay. It would fit with the rice counting and carrying logs up the sand dunes.

Sound like 20th century training methods to me! What happened to sports science?
[It was said somewhere they were at Port Macquarie btw]

Smithies has that wrong in his article.Reddys Instagram pic is tagged at Anna Bay so the no mattress thing was definitely part of the boot camp.
There's no problem with it.The whole idea of an army style camp is to see who breaks and who can cope.Seems as though Reddy couldn't.There's plenty of sports science around now with Brice here.

So is the reserve goalie any good?
He was off with the Olyroo squad (or was it Junior Socceroos?) in round 1. Either way it was a National team, so he can't be too useless!
Admittedly he made a howler in the FFA Cup match, but Mat Ryan made a couple of those in the early days. Hopefully Izzo will one day be spoken of in the same sentence.

Are you asking about Reddys reserve, Izzo ?

He's the Olyroos keeper who really hasnt been tested at A-League level yet & will be away on international duty REAL soon.

Or Paul Izzo's reserve ?

Adam Pearce is the Youth Team Keeper. This is what was said of him 11mnths ago by the Club ....

Mariners youth coach Stuart Jacobs said given Pearce’s age he still needs time but is shaping up to be a potential star.

“Adam is a long term project. He’s only 17 so we’ve got a bit of time to work with him. Hopefully in the next two or three years he’ll be ready for the A-league or by then we’ll at least have more of an idea of where he is at,” Jacobs said.

This forum's resident Goal Keeper aficionado 'Pat Jennings' also agrees Pearce is not up to it, is a 2-3 year project & still might not even be good enough for the A-League.

Actually it's quite the opposite. Many of the worlds top training academy's like say West Point for an example, employ sleep deprivation as it affects performance ability in multiple ways and probably more than just about anything else, huge amounts of research and experiments continue to pour into this area.

Very hard to control whether a player will have a good nights sleep before a big game, or say travelling to Welly, Perth or an ACL game. Beyond a bit of boot camp mental toughness, training has been proven to have benefits in countering/overcoming the effects to some degrees... though better results are found using caffeine and various other drugs :)

As to basic focus exercises like say counting rice. Reddy is clearly the Mariner who could most do with a bit more mental discipline... but there you go, we often resist most what we need most.

Personally glad that we're now experimenting with this kind of work, particularly if we're going to keep trying to bring through young players. A great deal of athletes fail on the international stage, or in big games, or lack consistency, not because of their ability, but precisely because of their mental strength. I'd wager Tim Cahill could count rice all day while standing in freezing water and having his ears twisted.

Whereas it sounds like Reddy would eat the rice, piss in the bath, and punch the twister. (which i admit i find likeable in a rebellious kind of way - but we need better form our paid pro's) You wonder what separates players like Reddy form Matty Ryan. (Distribution aside :)) their temperaments seem to be pretty chalk and cheese.

I think it is quite obvious to us all that Matt Sim is the Sith Lord we have been looking for.
Bane+ality !
Banality:
bəˈnalɪti/noun
the fact or condition of being banal; unoriginality. "there is an essential banality to the story he tells"

Bane:
The Order of the Sith Lords, also known as Bane's Sith Order, Banite Sith, or simply the Sith...
