We still have 5 signings or so to come, including hopefully a couple from Everton and another striker. From what i have seen the majority of clubs have still to announce most signings so still a while to go.

I'm much more optimistic. We have some maturing young players that will hopefully show their potential. We have a much more attacking and positive coach than last year. If we improve by a minimum of 10% we will be in the finals. Moss had us playing very conservative, slow buildup play that created very real opportunities to score. The new style that Walmsley is introducing will be risky but will give us many more chanced to add some points.

We have 19 players contracted at the moment - 3 visa players, 5 youth (as in they're U21s, not necessarily that they're on youth contracts). There's not a heap of room for new signings.

Transfer Rumors:
fr/ FourFourTwo

Former Sydney FC striker Blake Powell’s 20 goals for NPL powerhouse APIA Leichhardt Tigers have seen him catapult into A-League contention once again. The Central Coast Mariners are rumoured to be interested in his services but the most concrete offer to date comes from across the ditch, with Powell accepting Ernie Merrick’s invitation to join Wellington Phoenix for a two-match tour of Fiji.
gettyimages-185993289.jpg
Unfortunate to miss out on Sydney FC’s Italy tour in 2013 due to an untimely knee injury, Powell struggled to force his way back into the Sky Blue squad and by 2014 was effectively frozen out of the team by coach Frank Farina, who, a year on, was spotted keenly observing the friendly at Suva’s ANZ Stadium in his capacity as Head Coach of the Fiji Under-20 as football’s Six Degrees of Separation struck again.

Powell played in both matches and failed to get on the scoresheet but was involved in a number of good moves for the Phoenix and is said to have left a good impression on the former Victory coach. He now returns to APIA and will play his former club Sutherland Sharks at Seymour Shaw Park on July 11th.

Also in same article;

With Sydney FC allowing defender Nikola Petkovic to sign for Belgian club Westerlo amid rumours of player discontent, the name of Zac Anderson has once again cropped up as his former coach Graham Arnold looks to fill his squad’s final defensive position. The 2014 Cleo Bachelor of the Year nominee :vomit:was released by the Mariners at the end of last season and has been linked with Adelaide United as Nigel Boogaard’s replacement but Anderson may be unable to resist the overtures of his former coach who had brought the best out of him in Gosford and is now building for Sydney FC’s busiest ever season.

Mariners player search takes Walmsley to UK

Central Coast coach Tony Walmsley is on the hunt for a striker and a central defender to boost his squad ahead of the new A-League season.

Walmsley has been in the UK the past few weeks as he looks to continue the Mariners’ recruiting.

The club has already signed Irish forward Roy O’Donovan and Australian midfielder Mitch Austin for the upcoming campaign.

Walmsley said he would like to bring in three more players before the season kicks off at Central Coast Stadium against Perth Glory on October 10.

“We’re looking for another striker and central defender,” he told FourFourTwo.

“Roy O’Donovan’s got a real pedigree, he’s a goal scorer. He’ll give room for the likes of Anthony Caceres to come into his own. He’s at the right age.

“Mitch Austin will stretch teams down the left side. He’s got a lot of power. He’s a pacey left winger. The National Youth League will be very important for us (also). We’ll need to recruit very smartly there for players that can step up.”

The Mariners currently have 19 players on their books following the retirement of John Hutchinson and the departures of Zac Anderson, Isaka Cernak, Brent Griffiths and Matt Simon.

Walmsley has visited Everton and has identified two of their players that may be suitable for a loan move to the Central Coast.

“There’s a couple of players that fit the bill,” he said.

“Finding the right one is a challenge. We have to make sure they’re the right fit.

Walmsley is confident the appointment of Brice Johnson as the club’s new strength and conditioning coach will be crucial.

“Brice is an ex sprinter and specialises in movement patterns,” he said.

“He brings massive enthusiasm to the team. He’s an experienced man manager. We’re going to play a very demanding playing style physically and Brice will be a big part of that.

“We’re very respectful of the past but we’re trying to build a new future for the Mariners. Tim Knight has done an excellent job and will continue to work with the club. Tim has an excellent future.”

Good to hear we are keeping Tim on the books.

I think this is a positive move. We were nowhere near fit at the start of last season, and it put us way behind for the rest of the year.

Add Moss' "tactics" to the mix and the result was the very poor season we all witnessed.

Bosnar backs himself to play on – for now

Veteran Mariners defender, Eddy Bosnar, says he hasn’t decided whether to hang up his boots at the end of the next A-League season.
bosnar_1.jpg
Bosnar, who turns 36 next April, is contracted until the end of the 2015-2016 campaign. The former Joey, Young Socceroo and Olyroo has played in Croatia, Austria, Holland, Japan, Korea and China.

An AIS graduate, Bosnar started his career with the Newcastle Breakers in 1997 and joined the Mariners in February 2014.

Bosnar told FourFourTwo he isn’t contemplating retirement at this stage.

“I have been planning to hang them up for the last three years,” he joked.

“I will see. I’m not looking too far ahead. Seriously we need to concentrate to do well in the first 10 games this year so we have a platform to build upon. It’s an important year for the Mariners.

“As far as my playing career goes, no choices yet. It could finish anytime. But the way I feel and the way I have been training in Croatia, I’m fine.”

Bosnar made 18 appearances last year for Central Coast, scoring three goals. The Mariners are currently on the hunt for another centre back to partner the 35-year old in the heart of defence.

Central Coast have been drawn to play Wellington Phoenix in the round of 32 in the FFA Cup.

Bosnar was pleased the Mariners have got home ground advantage.

“It’s nice to get a home tie,” he said.

“It would be good to win the first game. Lucky we are not travelling to Wellington for the game. It’s a new season everyone stars from scratch. I’m looking forward to the match.

“I think both teams will be rusty as it’s the first game.”

. whether it was the coach, ceo, fitness dude ... i think we lacked experience and authority last year

. this effected our recruitment, fitness, confidence and style of play ... it also stunted the development of some younger players

. interesting times ahead ... we are already seeing a more confident approach in communication. this may very well be another transition season but hopefully the course we take is more suited and has us heading in the right direction for the future

Well, we can stop thinking about signing Jamie McLaren (if we ever were so thinking). Just saw it on TV he's signed with Roar.

Shame but wasn't thinking we would get him. Surprised its the Roar but guess they offered him a good deal with a good chance to start. Hopefully we get some Mariners announcements soon....

Mate Dugandzic is looking a bit lonely at the moment. Was linked with Adelaide a couple weeks ago but that seems to have broken down. Surely worth a base contract?

Also would put in an early contract offer for Bradden Inman at Crewe (his contact runs out at the end of next season). Got injured last year and couldn't get back into the Crewe team because of a star in the making named Billy Waters.
