What is weird about it? Sheff Utd is in Monty's blood after 400 games for them. It is a simple space filling interview - it is the off season in Enngland too - so the hack is earning his corn by interviewing a United legend.
I guess so. I just thought it was a little weird that the reporter didn't go for a former player who actually still lives around the area but that's just me.

John Hutchinson completes first training session as Assistant Coach
Monday, 6 July 2015 -
The Central Coast Mariners kick-started preparations for the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 campaign today, with the first wave of players returning to training ran by John Hutchinson in his first session as Assistant Coach.
With Tony Walmsley set to return from the U.K. later this week – Hutchinson was responsible for putting the players through their strides in the first session of pre-season.
‘Hutch’ spent a month undertaking his ‘UEFA A Coaching License’ and returns to the Central Coast with the qualifications and passion to commence his first campaign as Assistant Coach under Walmsley.
The 35-year-old who arrived this morning for his 11th pre-season with the Central Coast Mariners took his first official session as Assistant Coach with an obvious air of excitement.
“Looking back to season one with the Mariners I was excited to get into pre-season and back into professional football, it was that feeling again today. I was excited,” Hutchinson said. “I’ve been working for the past couple of weeks off the field but to come here today and take the session was very exciting, to see the boys running with me on the sideline brought a smile to my face,” he said.
During his time in Wales, ‘Hutch’ was able to learn under some of the biggest names in world football.
“When you are sitting there listening to people like Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry, Freddie Ljungberg and Sol Campbell talk about their coaches it’s unbelievable,” Hutchinson said. “For me, going to Wales took me out of my comfort zone and it’s a fantastic way to learn,” he said.
‘Hutch’ personified the never-say-die attitude and determination of the Central Coast Mariners and it is clear that he will carry this mentality and mantra into his career as a coach.
“Under Tony’s guidance we’re going to work hard and get this team back where it belongs and the boys have come back after 5-6 weeks off looking fantastic,” Hutchinson said.
“As a footballer you always dream of playing the highest level possible and as a coach you want to coach at the highest level.
“A great dream of mine is to coach the team that I’ve played for, for 10 years but I’ve still got a long way to learn and Tony Walmsley is a great mentor to me and I’ve learnt so much off him already,” he said.

Sheffield United: Montgomery eyes future return to Bramall Lane

Nick Montgomery says goodbye to Blades fans

Nick Montgomery, the former Sheffield United midfielder, hopes he will return to Bramall Lane “at some point in the future” after outlining plans to become a coach.

The Central Coast Mariners captain made the admission despite insisting that moving to Australia has improved him as a player.

Sheffield United's Nick Montgomery (bottom) and Sheffield Wednesday's Jose Semedo battle for the ball in 2011.

Montgomery, who made 397 appearances for United before joining the A-League franchise in 2012, told The Star: “I’m working on my coaches badges and everyone knows the club is so close to my heart. So, at some point in the future, it would be great to come back because I know I’ve got a lot to offer.

“Especially after coming here and gaining new experience. At the moment, I’m completely focused on doing well for the Mariners though.”

Montgomery, aged 33, was a member of the United squad which gained promotion to the Premier League eight seasons ago and last night warned Nigel Adkins that repeating that feat would be the most “pressurised” challenge of his footballing career.

Drawing on over a decade’s worth of experience in South Yorkshire, Montgomery said: “Nigel knows what he’s doing but, from my time there, the best thing he could do is make sure everyone he signs has got bottle.

“That’s what Sheffield United is all about. Graft and courage. It’s a great working class club.

“You need ability, that goes without question. But, because of the expectation, character is key.”

“It’s important there’s no ‘bad eggs’ in the dressing room,” he added. “It only takes one or two and it can ruin the harmony which is key.

“One thing we had during my successful times there was a great bunch of lads and spirit where everyone worked for each other whether playing or not.”

Montgomery, speaking during his return to England, reassured the Mariners’ support that he has no plans to leave Central Coast Stadium soon. Indeed he paid a handsome tribute to the Gosford based club whose technical director, Tony Walmsley, is also a former United employee.

“Coming out here has broadened my horizons, made me a better player and person” Montgomery said. “Playing in the Asian Champions league great experience as we play the best teams in China, Korea and Japan.

“The intensity isn’t the same but I’ve learnt more here in tactically than in England. The Australians are world leaders when it comes to sports science and we should study how they go about things more. It’s a brilliant place to live and, looking back, I needed a fresh challenge. My family love it.”

“I will be cheering the club on from Australia, it’s the first result I look for,” Montgomery added. “I feel the pain of all Unitedites but I know they will keep the faith and get behind Nigel and the lads as, when they do, it’s like an extra man.”

Interesting posts from Sheffield Untd fan's at the end of the article. NOT much love for Monty back home

Former Sheffield United youth coach hopes to build a bridge between A-League and Blades

Tony Walmsley - Sheff Utd
If Tony Walmsley ever tires of life at its coalface, Australian football chiefs should employ him to market their game.
“If you want a beachside apartment, to play professionally and enjoy travelling to different parts of the country and across Asia then the A-League is perfect. It’s an incredible life experience and a great sporting one too.”

Central Coast Mariners Stadium
Walmsley, appointed head coach of Central Coast Mariners earlier this year, is in the business of attracting young talent. Possibly, given his previous role as Sheffield United’s head of academy recruitment, from the development squad at Bramall Lane.

The Star can reveal that talks, designed to establish a “tangible” relationship between the League One club and their A-League counterparts took place when Walmsley visited South Yorkshire last month. Although United have previous when it comes to overseas partnerships - agreements with the likes of Chengdu Blades and Ferencvaros have produced varying degrees of success - Walmsley is convinced that promoting closer ties between the two teams makes perfect sense.

“When I was at the academy, there was a desire to strike a relationship which works for everybody,” he continued. “That intent is still there. “There’s challenges. But, at some point in the future, there will be a tangible platform that works for everybody. Be it a player exchange or exchange of coaches.” Those “challenges” include legislation designed to protect the A-League’s integrity and measures which aim to ensure its members, including the Gosford based franchise, do not overspend. “If we take a Visa player, we have to be confident they’ll start games,” Walmsley, speaking during his recent return to England, said. “Once we are, the player can expect a different level of exposure.

“Our games are shown live on BT Sport now and, when Alessandro Del Piero was over here, every Sydney game was beamed to Italy. The spotlight is there without a shadow of a doubt.
“There are lots of Australians playing in Europe and elsewhere now. If you are good enough, you can go anywhere from the A-League now.” “There’s one game a week so that equals more time for tactical education,” he continued. “It’s a very professional environment.

“In England, that’s not the case because it’s all about winning. You can’t get relegated in Australia because of the model the league is based on. The pressure is on to win. Nothing else. Promotion or the title.
“But in Australia, because of the system, there’s more freedom to entertain by playing attacking football. And, coupled with that, more time to help develop skills and work on that side of things.”
Among those to benefit from the competition’s focus on technical development is Nick Montgomery who, after leaving United in 2012, is preparing for his fourth season with the Mariners.
“Monty signed two year extension just before I took over and has just been made captain,” Walmsley said. “He brings big club experience from Sheffield United and leads from the front in training. He’s a great example to the rest of the lads.”

“If you asked what does a Mariners player look like, it’s Monty,” Walmsley added. “We want to entertain and Monty is the type of player who provides the backbone, when others are surging forward, for that to happen. “There’s more to him than that of course, much more, but he brings that knowledge and that base.”
Exploiting United’s critically acclaimed youth system holds an obvious attraction for the Mariners. But, from a Bramall Lane perspective, there are potential rewards too.
Citing Massimo Luongo’s move from Swindon Town to QPR six weeks ago, Walmsley said: “I would say to any young Australian, look at what he’s done. Don’t ignore League One.
“In Australia, we are bombarded with Premier League coverage but, at the right club and under the right coach, it’s a fantastic development to further your career.”
“I have a passion for Sheffield United. It gets under your skin,” Walmsley added. “I was born and raised in Manchester but Sheffield United doesn’t leave you. There something really earthy about it and the fans are a part of that.

“We all know the club is in the wrong place at the moment and I’m like any other fan, trying to do something to help.”

Now 18 contracted - we basically need a forward, a midfielder, a defender and a keeper.

No worries.

Creepy confirmed to SFC. Sad to see him go :( . Let's hope he continues with the U23 team and can mentor Izzo there.

http://www.fourfourtwo.com/au/news/crawley-makes-sydney-switch

John Crawley has rejoined former Central Coast boss Graham Arnold at Sydney FC as the club’s new goalkeeping coach.
Crawley left the Mariners after a decade at the club, with Matthew Nash installed as his replacement at the yellow and navy blue.
Crawley, a former Blacktown City and Sydney United keeper, will replace Zelkjo Kalac who has already joined Western Sydney as their goalkeeping coach.
The 43-year-old previously formed a strong unit at the Mariners with Arnold and Andrew Clark, head of strength and conditioning, who has also made the move to the harbour city.
Crawley said he was delighted to be joining Sydney FC and working with Arnold again.
“The club had an excellent season under his guidance last year and I’m very excited to see what we can go on to achieve both in the Hyundai A-League and in Asia this year,” Crawley said.
“We have two very good keepers on the books in Vedran Janjetovic and Anthony Bouzanis and I look forward to helping them go on to get even better.”
Crawley has played a key role in the development of some of the nation’s elite shot-stoppers and was hailed by Arnold for his coaching ability.
“John Crawley is one of the best, if not the best, goalkeeper coaches in the country,” Sydney FC’s head coach said.
“His record speaks for itself in the keepers he has developed, including Danny Vukovic, Mat Ryan, Adam Federici and Andrew Redmayne. He brings a wealth of knowledge and 10 years Hyundai A-League experience to the role.
“I am looking forward to seeing how Vedran and Anthony develop under his tuition and for them to be open-minded to experiencing new goalkeeping methods.
“Obviously I’ve worked with him before, we had a great relationship and I look forward to working with him again.”

Mixed emotions; after ten years service he deserves to move on, he has done his dues and can make his own choices without feeling he is in any way letting the Mariners down. He may have felt that the sweeping changes of last year were not for him, and he doesn't seem to have got any mention as a first team coach so maybe he just felt it was time.
As for SFC as his choice, it is probably a no brainer; much easier on the travel and back with his old CCM mates.
Is there anyone left for Arnie to pick from the CCM carcass?

I think that pretty much completes his pillaging exercise doesn't it?
May he fail - miserably...
(Arnie that is - Hopefully JC will go on to bigger and better things :) )
