ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

speed and ball players like casceres and kalik .
nobody rates us , ooh my
As basically an outsider I don't personally rate Cáceres and I don't think many fans (other than Mariners fans) do. While to be truthful I haven't seen much of him what I have seen is patchy at best. As for Kalik every club seems to have a young player like him (one who is young and hasn't played much A-League but shined at junior level Stefan Mauk at City Devante Clut at Brisbane for example) and I did watch all of the games Kalik played last year and he didn't seem to shine. While yes, he and Cáceras will develop I think at the moment people are quite right to be not expecting much based on the current squad. Sorry to be such a downer but personally unless basically all of our young players improve (which is entirely possible) I think we have a weaker squad than Brisbane, Victory, Sydney FC, City, Wellington and Adelaide. So hopefully Mr Walmsley brings back some good signings from England.

I rate Caceres very highly. I think he was our best outfield player by far last season and one of the best in the league despite our indifferent form. Watch him go next year in a fresh, exciting Mariners team. :) I have every faith in our younger players (Caceres, Roux, Neill, Rose, Kalik etc) and we have excellent older players and mentors in Monty, Rosey,Reddy etc....but it's absolutely critical we recruit well in our weak areas and 2 class CB's and at least one proven forward will see us well placed for next season.

Not a new squad member but looks like we have a new Strength and conditioning coach. Bruce Johnson. Has a rugby league background. Worked for 2 years at the roosters. Apparently was a professional sprinter back in the day too. Will be interesting to see how his experience will be implemented in the football sense.

@BriceJohnsonCCM: I AM IN! Excited & proud to be a part of @ccmariners. Can't wait to get to work with @TonyWalmsley, staff & team. #AreYouIn
So what happens with young Tim Knight? Isn't he the fitness guru? Or has he been given the punt?

Ain't differing opinions marvellous?

In Caceres I see potential but not product. If he's the finished article, then we need to do better.

There aren't that many A-League teams he'd walk into as a starter (where he's up against players like Finkler, Mooy, Carrusca, Brosque, McGlinchey...).

Ditto for Montgomery (who last season would've been up against Milligan, Antonis, Griffiths, Paartaluu, McKay...).

We don't have that many players who *would* displace other clubs' starters.

But isn`t that the beauty of the Mariner`s?
Ordinary player`s doing extraordinary things !

The hope is that we'll "moneyball" our way to success. Have players that other clubs pass over for one reason or another but whose value (as seen over a number of key outputs) is greater than their price. We were masters of it under Lawrie.

Under Arnie, it was more a case of getting a quality set of players whose outputs were so perfectly complementary that we became a seriously formidable unit.

I don't think we have (or are likely to get) the quality that Arnie had available to him, so option 1 is what we've got.

Hmmm... A couple of things on that though...

Caceres: Not that it should be considered gospel for anything, but if you look at places like 442, Caceres is one of only a few players, that is consistently rated by other fans, so it's not entirely and exclusively a CCM circle-jerk that's going on there.

He's definitely not the finished product, no and I think it'd be unreasonable to expect him to walk in and displace your Finklers, Mooys and McGlincheys out there.. That's not to say that he couldn't match them, just that when you're given someone of talent, such as himself, who is still proving himself, and you have to match him against someone of talent and experience, such as Finkler, most sane coaches would go with Finkler unless there was a VERY good reason ;)

In general - the way I see it, Monty would probably get a start in most teams as well and certainly, based on recent performance, Reddy... That's a start.

But more to the point, we haven't historically been a team that thrived off a couple of huge names... In fact, the one time we've had one of those recently, we started passing the ball straight to him and then just wait to watch him do something magic.
The whole strength of the Mariners is what the team can do as a unit, much more than what the individual player can do... Arguably that's ONE of the reasons why people find us boring to watch... Personally, I think it's exciting when it works, because it means that a threat can be really difficult to pinpoint... Just a shame it hasn't worked much lately.

I think people also forget Mooy was pretty much a nobody under Poppa. He moves to City and has a great year. I think this year will Caseres' break out year. Much like Mooy had last year.

I think some are starting to underestimate what we have...

Goals Reddy

Backs:- Poscoliero, Rose, Storm and Michael Neil

Mids:- Caceras., Fab, Kallic, Monty and Liam Rose...

Strikers ... the new signings

Bench

Fitzy, Eddie

New Signings

Mitch Austin , Roy O'Donovan

Plus signing from the youth Team

Plus yet to be signed.

My run on side in a 4 2 3 1

Reddy

Storm, Poscoliero..... ADD .... Neil or Rose

..... Liam Rose , Monty

Fab .... Kallic .... Caceres

Add a striker

Poscoliero, Neil, Liam Rose, Fab, Kallic and Caceres are all ball players and with the right striker

Lets assume for the sake of argument TW can get two decent signing from the Everton partnership and I am feeling pretty good about the season ahead ... as this would be an exciting team to watch...

A nobody? Disagree there. He was competing against J-League 'legend' Shinji every week for a spot.

I remember going to see the first game we had vs WSW. Bumped into the father of Central Coast product Reece Caira who WSW signed fr Aston Villa. Phil said yo keep an eye on a young Aaron Mooy from Bolton Wanderers youth/St Mirren, played with Reece in the Australian U23's & said he was a clever passer/ballplayer with a cracker of a free kick.

Everything he said panned out. Playing at WSW I think toughened him up physically and they were stupid to let him go, especially after Shinji wasnt resigned as well. His year at MCity, as you pointed out, proved what a mistake the Wanderers made.

We could do with a player like him.

Robbie Slater commented umpteen times last season regarding Caceres, (something along the lines of)........"Caceres shows glimpses of what COULD come, but really needs to step it up a gear for his team, if not for his own footballing future"

Rowdy nails it.

And for a fair few of our starting XI, there are half a dozen better prospects elsewhere in the league.

*That's* why I'm pessimistic.

Could be described as the 'Year of the Purge'.

Can't remember an off-season where so many players were released by their clubs. Couple this with those returning from failed overseas jaunts looking to reignite careers & we have a stack of unemployed footballers.

Basic economics says, with an oversupply in a 10-Team League players without contracts should be willing to sign ANY contract even if it means LESS $$$ than what they were paid in seasons past IF, they wish to continue as Pro Footballer.

Economic conditions that should benefit a bereft club like the Mariners looking to rebulid.

Do loans have to wait for the transfer window to open? I hope TW has lined up a 2 or 3 and is waiting for transfer window to open and our memberships drive to start before any announcements.

something to be considered too - it's hard to fly like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. the way our team played season10 was poor, and not like a team. good players second guess themselves and make school boy errors under those conditions. I do expect to see better things from current talented individuals this season
