It`s already been a long off -season with so little news about our team.
At this stage I`m not over optimistic about next season.
The signing of Austin & O'Donovan just doesn`t seem to fill me with enthusiasm for season 11.
Unless Walmsley comes back from the UK with a bag full of quality players we may just end up as "the most exciting' wooden spooners.

HHHHHHMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... GGGGGGRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

Lets wait at least a few games TBH most sides have similar issues only the Tards, Flying Circus and Inbred's [AU] seem to have balanced squads ... the rest all seem to be looking for players and like the Russian investors, and the Shieldfield relationship before the new Everton partnership will solve all our problems and MC will come atop of a charging white steed [with wings] across Brisbane Waters and complete with band and cannon slay all before on the battlefield that is the Central Coast Stadium.

Middy is like Shakespeare, you have to read the same thing two or three times before you half understand it.
:)

Let's hope the pre-season games show some promise. Unlike the warning signs last year.

I think the warning signs last season were:-
a) low$$$
b) imported no-name signings
c) few Pre-season games (none at Bluetongue)
d) Still trialling players up to the start of the season

I`m old school, Identify players, have them training, sign who you want, have pre-season games to sort them out & then go out & win the comp.
Not rocket science...

Tards, Flying Circus & Inbreds all finished well above us last season.
As for the rest we have to do better than them to even get close to the front runners.
At this stage I think it would be a safe thing to say that we`re not setting the world on fire with recruitment.
We can`t sit here thinking the Mariner`s world is cosy when little in the way of signings has been done.

We`ve lost half of our squad from last year, sacked a few former rising stars, got rid of our heart (Hutcho & Matty) & lost a senior backroom coach & foundation member.
I think there is reason for concern now.

i don't care where we finish as long as we finish above them
Yes, I do want to finish above them, but I also DO care where we finish. Having only finished out of the post-season games three times, and having been top 4 in all the other seasons, two Premierships and equal most GF appearances, I've kinda got used to being up there. I want to continue being up there. I have to say that this year's final series bored me shitless because we weren't there.

There's still 4 months before start of season and preseason training doesn't start for 1 or 2 (?) more weeks.

I'd like to think Walmsley is taking that little bit of extra time on recruitment at the moment making sure we get it right.

Personally not sweating yet

I hear what you are saying and agree to a point. there is plenty of time for recruitment. However, when Tony took over his style of play was very taxing on the players because of the poor pre-season last year. From that point of view the sooner recruitment can be done the better as it would allow a full pre-season for the full squad.

Most clubs are in a similar position of having let go of what did not fit the vision for 2015-2016, & very few signed up new players. It will be an interesting month ahead as the a-league teams take shape, & sign up their new hopes. Hope is what we are looking for and so far i am very hopeful of the 2 new signings, & rumoured to be absolute opportunistic bargains.

So - going to need some guidance here, how many times to we need to see the same thing before it stops being a warning sign and start being business-as-usual?
Although arguably, they should consistently precede a horrible season, before they can fairly be called warnings for our particular club ;)

Most clubs still have lots of recruitment to do. I think alot of players are on holidays, once we get close to pre-season there will be lots of announcements from all clubs. We probably need 5 more players of which 2 or 3 will possibly come from Everton's youth. Agree with many about pre-season fitness, it's key that all squad members get a good one in as they will need a different level of fitness for the style of football we are advocating.
