Mariners Squad - HAL 11 - 2015/2016

TW has said we are looking at 'buying' a CB and a young keeper.

Grant seems to be the CB and recently released Aaron Lennox may be the GK. If that is the end of our buying I hope we still get a couple of the Everton youngsters on loan.

Tyias Browning at CB and Chris Long as a striker would round out the squad nicely.
Those 4 would be good additions to the squad. All are in the UK i think as well which is where Tony is so i can imagine he is a busy man at the moment.

My gut feel is that we're short probably 2 CBs and a DM (a 6 rather than an 8). Could definitely do with a striker if we want to, you know, score some goals...

Mate Dugandzic would be a decent pick up. He would be cheap and some fresh and different coaching could get him back to his 2012 form (where he was in line for a Socceroos call up). Can play right wing, attacking midfielder and up front.

He left to go to Korea; I don't think he ever came back :(
I'd still love to see him have another season. We still need another striker on top of Roy O'D (If Chris Long from Everton that would be great)and Matty give us another dimension. Last season there was a brief period where it looked like he might come good again but unfortunately got injured. He's always a handful even when playing badly, and has a brilliant workrate.

As a neutral last season the only time I thought the Mariners looked good was when Simon was on for the first half of the FFA Cup vs Adelaide.

We had two spikes in the season when we played ok for a couple of weeks and didn't get pummelled. 1st spike was when Matty Simon came back and the second was when Fabio first joined us.
I'd still retain Matty on a reduced or incentive based contract.
Apart from Monty we are a little bit soft and Matt's aggression is always useful.

I'd say Walmsley will use McGing as CB cover. As have has requested McGing play CB in the NPL2. On a side not its good that Walmsley is getting on with CCF.

McGing who played the full 90 minutes on the weekend, said he has been loving his time at the club, where he has been playing in a different role at the request of Mariners head coach Tony Walmsley.

I’m usually a midfielder, but I’ve been playing centre-back. It’s a different role in the team, but I’ve been really enjoying it right now. It’s a young club, young team and we’re playing really good football as well” McGing said.

From a review of round 13 of the NSW NPL 2:
Having said that, St George could have gone a goal up early themselves, after an underhit pass by Jake McGing fell into the path of Wassim Hijazi who hightailed it to goal.

Apparently Josh Bingham is injured as well:
Even without the injured Josh Bingham, still to recover from a knock he received against Uni last weekend, the Coast were still too quick and agile for the Saints.:(

Grant signs with Perth.

Would love to see Duganzdic here . . .think he could be real quality!

We also lost Duke, Mane and Seung-Yong during the season and have McGing and Bingham who have signed on for this season (albeit before the offseason)

So how many spots in the available 26 player squad do we have left to fill? (know in seasons past we havent always filled the 'fully allowable')

We have nineteen filled including Nash. With the rumour of JC to Sydney and TW talking about signing a younger keeper I suspect he will replace Crawley as GK coach. So a possible 7 or 8.

If we are going to go to 26 with some youngsters I'd love to see Dejan Pandurevic re-signed and Lachlan Wales and Trent Buhagiar added.

It`s already been a long off -season with so little news about our team.
At this stage I`m not over optimistic about next season.
The signing of Austin & O'Donovan just doesn`t seem to fill me with enthusiasm for season 11.
Unless Walmsley comes back from the UK with a bag full of quality players we may just end up as "the most exciting' wooden spooners.

The recruitment this year and last reminds me of our 2008-10 period when we cheaped out and paid the price.
