Holman's also only 31 and not that OLD!

Timmy Cahill was gobsmacked when Brett announced his retirement from the Socceroo's 6 weeks prior to the last WC, went on the record as rating him to make the squad, especially that he wad always in great physical shape when entering Socceroo camps - even in the off season breaks. Tim said, with now playing in the Middle East he could manage his health much better in that type of League for 2/3 more seasons easily at his age as opposed to the rigors of playing somewhere in Europe.

Same reason Bresciano went there and Cahill to the MLS/China.

I think Hollie quit the AUS team because he wrongly presumed he'd be discarded with likes of the L.Neils, Shwarzer's etc and wanted to bow out with some dignity rather than unceremoniously not being selected again.

Quality Attack-Midfielder, extremely creative with his passing and def. can find the back of the net. Ohh and there's the link with Hutch/Wilko from his days at Northern Spirit yoof.

Hutch, no more back passing PICK UP THE PHONE !
Too late Hutch. If you were thinking of Holman for our squad, think no more.

Barton is a very good player but a nut job.
His brother on the other hand.......

Hey Sydney ?
What was dumb about that post?
Did you not know about his brother?
Have you not seen Barton play?
Or are you just a cheese throwing freak?

Please help me so I can post better comments that meet with your approval.

Looks like we may have some interest in triantis.

Released midfielder Peter Triantis will not have to move out of home to continue his A-League career and is likely to be doing a daily commute west or North next season.
Would be surprised if it's Triantis, we don't need another central midfielder. If we have 5 more spots to fill at the most we need at least 2 more strikers and 2 cb's. Most likely it's the Jets or WSW? Blake Powell on the other hand may be on the radar if a couple of sides are watching him. Striker, young, cheap...fits the bill. Still hanging out for an exciting striker signing though. :) O'Donovan will be better than most people expect but we still really need someone that other teams will fear.

I know Roux is not counted as a Visa player but does anyone know the status of Monty and Ferriera?

With the possibility of some Everton youngsters and having just signed ROD

Monty is Dual English/Scottish and Ferriera is from Portugal.

Current Visa players:

Monty
Ferriera
Roy O'Donovan
Visa 4 Free
Visa 5 Free

Monty wants to stay in Australia (on the coast) post football and Ferriera moved to Australia and played for Dulwich Hill (so it would seem that Australia was the lure - not football at Dulwich Hill). Given that I wonder whether either has gained / will gain Australian citizenship.

Watched Ferreira tear my club's NPL team (Sydney Uni) a new one a few years back... Must've been 2013.

Glory leads chase to bring Aussie defender Grant to A-League

Perth Glory is favourite to snare young Australian defender Alex Grant who has been released by Stoke City

Perth Glory is aiming to bring young Australian defender Alex Grant back to his home state after a season on the books of English Premier League club Stoke City.

However, coach Kenny Lowe is facing competition from Central Coast Mariners and Adelaide United for the 21-yar-old centre-back who joined Mark Hughes's side as the final signing of former boss Tony Pulis - but did not make a first team appearance in 2014-2015.

A product of Perth's ECC Joondalup football factory, which produced the likes of Socceroos Rhys Williams and Chris Herd, Grant began a four-year adventure in England with Portsmouth, where he made one senior appearance in a League Cup tie.

There were loan spells at non-league Eastleigh and Havant and Waterlooville before before his departure of the Midlands.

He spent last season at Conference club Macclesfield Town on loan and news of his release by Stoke prompted Lowe into offering him a return ticket to his roots.

Perth, which has been hit by a raft of departures since its salary cap woes, remains the front-runner, though the Mariners have also jumped into the frame with a late bid.

Grant’s agent, UK-based Gary Williams, said: "He's a Perth boy and is keen to come home to play regular football and boost his chances of selection for the Olyroos.

"He's been involved with the Under-17s before and is determined to get noticed by the national team again.

"Perth was certainly the favourite but the Mariners have also come in and are quite serious. There's been some interest too from Adelaide, so we'll see where that all takes us."

TW has said we are looking at 'buying' a CB and a young keeper.

Grant seems to be the CB and recently released Aaron Lennox may be the GK. If that is the end of our buying I hope we still get a couple of the Everton youngsters on loan.

Tyias Browning at CB and Chris Long as a striker would round out the squad nicely.
