Mariners Squad - HAL 11 - 2015/2016

When I looked at the contract list Kev posted we have six players coming off contract next year ... so who we get is important beyond next year...

The Everton partnership he says with more hope than belief could be the answer especially if that is where TW is going for a while in the UK...

Also from 442 a young kid from Vietnam labelled the the Vietnamese Messie could be worth a look as well he seems to want an A-League gig...

I pointed that guy out here a few months ago. A few people think he's worth a look.
If the HAL had an Asian visa requirement guys like this might get more of a go.
Some of them might go on and earn a decent sell on fee.

Wilko would be excellent - we could actually do worse than Holman.

Holman's also only 31 and not that OLD!

Timmy Cahill was gobsmacked when Brett announced his retirement from the Socceroo's 6 weeks prior to the last WC, went on the record as rating him to make the squad, especially that he wad always in great physical shape when entering Socceroo camps - even in the off season breaks. Tim said, with now playing in the Middle East he could manage his health much better in that type of League for 2/3 more seasons easily at his age as opposed to the rigors of playing somewhere in Europe.

Same reason Bresciano went there and Cahill to the MLS/China.

I think Hollie quit the AUS team because he wrongly presumed he'd be discarded with likes of the L.Neils, Shwarzer's etc and wanted to bow out with some dignity rather than unceremoniously not being selected again.

Quality Attack-Midfielder, extremely creative with his passing and def. can find the back of the net. Ohh and there's the link with Hutch/Wilko from his days at Northern Spirit yoof.

Hutch, no more back passing PICK UP THE PHONE !

Griff would be brilliant, But is either Posco or Eddy good enough for starting 11? I would like another player of his quality to join him as our starting CBs.

I concur, Eddy was found wanting quite a bit last season, stepping up from the defensive line to either be beaten or totally misread the play - turn and watch that play continue in behind him & into the back of the net. 'Pos' I think is either still not the finished product as a CB or is more suited with his 'high-energy' to putting pressure on 'Stormy' at RB.

I personally think 'Pos' is better with the ball at feet going forward than Rioux at RB. And with that CB is most definitely a position I'd fork out some bucks on.

Wilko gets a tick in my book. But what about Michael Thwaite from Perth Glory? Read on 442 he's ben told he can look at his options if likes despite being on contract like all the others that have fled the west. Would be less than Wilko in dollars I'd guess. He plays out from the back much better than Ed as either a CB or as DM, bonus!

When we lost Jedinak it was Thwaity I actually wanted instead of ZAnderson from the Gold Coast disaster.

Thwaite would be an excellent pickup - in an ideal world a CB pairing of Thwaite and Wilko would be very strong - but we obviously won't fork for both and I'd take Wilko first.

I'd be happy with Wilko and Poscoliero. Thwaite has slowed considerably in the last season. Ideally a back 8 of

LB
Rose/Neill-----

LCB
Galloway (Everton) / Bosnar

RCB

Wilkinson/ Cameron Burgess (not getting game time at Ross County while on loan from Fulham

RB

Roux/ Poscoliero

I'm hearing that the JC to Sydney move is currently not a certainty and to watch this space...

methinks he'll still go but I'd love to hold onto him

Strong back 8. Lots of competition for places and a nice mix of youth and experience.

Rafa Jiminez looking to move from Villareal. Spanish based 19 yr old Aussie is a CB so would fit our requirements. Lots of interest so might be a long shot but apparently one A league side is looking according to 442.

I think Poscoliero can play both RB and CB and think he is one of the better CB in the league...

The Galloway & Burgess are they from earlier on and what chances do you think ... as for Wilko would love him back ...

Still think we need a striker TBH Archie Thompson would not be a bad fit given how young our squad is looking ..

Galloway is a young CB from Everton U21 and Burgess is a 19 yo Scottish born Aussie CB playing for Ross County on loan from Fulham. Since switching allegiance from Scotland he has got no game time at Fulham and has been loaned to Ross County.

Heard a pretty solid rumour that Holman is sorted with another Aleague club already, not sure why but I was kind of sad, I thought for some reason he actually might be one for us :(

On a more positive note, no such rumours about Wilko....

Heard a pretty solid rumour that Holman is sorted with another Aleague club already, not sure why but I was kind of sad,

Holman yesterday interviewed by....

http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/arti...-backburner-holman-hunts-new-middle-east-deal

"Holman made it a hat-trick of trophies in his two seasons in the Arabian Gulf League by skippering his team to a 3-0 penalty shootout victory in Al Ain on Thursday (AEST) in sapping 45-degree heat after the final had finished 1-1 in extra time.

Victory for the "Blue Wave" broke a 26-year President's Cup drought but, with no contract on the table for next season, Holman, 31, looks like moving on.

But not to the A-League, where he could have the pick of just about any club.

“There’s been no contact with any club whatsoever from the A-league … absolutely zero,” he said. “But I am never going to close any doors because right now I don’t know where I will be at next year.......

“My contract finishes at the end of the month and the way things happen here with contracts they sometimes wait till the last minute and that creates speculation on the future and rumours and gossip.....

Quizzed on whether he would play in the A-league at some stage, Holman said: “I can’t say yes or no. If you look at the passion for the game there now and you see the atmosphere in the big matches in the big stadiums, then of course it catches your attention. You never know what the future holds.". .....

“If you are talking about me throwing the towel in … not at all. I want to carry on playing for many more years because everybody knows it’s the best job you can do.”. .......

“We played 45 matches this year [in all competitions]. And you look at the conditions … we played our final on Wednesday night in 45 degrees and that’s tough work.

“I am only 31 and I have played close to 90 games in two years here and the body keeps pulling up fine."

Article also suggested Qatar might be a possible next move.

His above comments sound like a man who thinks that many here back in Australia dont rate him. Similar to the feelings I alluded to in my earlier post about his decision to retire fr the National Team.

#REPEAT: Hutcho, pick up the phone mate! Show him that he's rated by a team that's looking to get back to where we were and deserve to be, competing for the title. Playing a style of football that suits him down to the ground.

You'll never know if you dont try, he might not CO$T as much as you think ;)

Sounds like we released him?
So no transfer fee...
I was kinda hoping we would have a small token fee (considering most Scottish clubs can't afford lavish transfer fees on youngsters).
