Mariners Squad - HAL 11 - 2015/2016

Agree, Roy would love the support from Garcia. Something we really lacked is support for the front 3, it's all very well trying to attack quickly but the midfield has been too slow getting forward to support and potentially pick up any loose scraps. That said though our midfield needs to sit deeper to support an inexperienced youthful back line.

#thatboytrent promoted to the squad.

Can play wide if needed and is really quick. Last 15 or so against a tiring defence

Didn't even make the bench last week. Did he even travel to Bris ???

Once it became clear Austin wasn't playing; I would've added the 'Budgie' to the bench instead of McDonald knowing TW was starting Fletcher, who was always going to gas.

Garcia needed 'someone' with pace to make runs in behind for him to play his sublime 'through-balls'.
Alas.

Rumour has it that even with Garcia and our January ins and outs we still havent reached the cap floor and are now having to pay bonueses to the current squad to hit it.

Positive is that there is room for a lot of quality to be brought into the squad in the off season

...and with the new 'cap-banking' system, we can carry forward unused cap to (100% legally) exceed the standard cap.

There are a number of players currently playing for their spots, and given our position that really means playing for their careers.

If they every want to draw a full-time pay packet from football after this season, they're going to have to show what they're made of.

That doesn't mean that they need to win every game or anything like that, but let's just say that genuinely committed and competitive performances would likely be looked on very kindly (regardless of the results) and the sort of surrender in defence that was on show for Adelaide's third goal on Sunday night would likely spell doom.

Even for some players contracted beyond 2016, I wouldn't be surprised if there are some asked if there's not another league they'd be keen to try their hands at in the off-season.

Next year must have -
  • CB - Experienced to go with Posco, Ascroft and McGing back ups
  • LB - Mid 20's, Rose to be back up or retire
  • Midfielder - Mid 20's to be maybe on left but more attack minded than Monty and Rose, a good dribbler, maybe Rose bud back to bench, Neill back up LB/LM with Ashcroft and McGing available as well
  • AM - Mid to late 20's - Spend as much as possible, needs to be exciting and able to pull the strings
  • New Coach - TW to TD
Should get -

  • A better keeper, won't happen
  • Back up RB to put pressure on Roux
  • Back up LW and RW - Need genuine back ups for Fab and Austin who tire easy and are injury prone

You could have posted this at this stage last season.

Imagine, after all we have done since our formation, Walmsley and Hutch (of all people) will forever carry the stain of leading us to our 1st spoon.

I don't think you can underestimate how much impact the moving on of Reddy, Bosnar, Caceres, Fitzgerald and Sim has had.

They're all experienced players and whether they're superstars or muppets, it's a quarter of our senior squad right there.

Add to that the sidelining of Kalik and Trifiro and Simon and Anderson moving on in the last off-season, and it's bound to have a seismic impact. We have what, three starters from the end of last year? And just two remain from the championship season.

That takes time to recover from.

I'm still hopeful (but not quite confident) that we can pull off a Houdini show and dodge the spoon, but even if we don't, sometimes it's worth lancing the boil and getting the pus out, even if it stings a bit.

I shall remind you of that when CCS is packed with gloating scum handing us their spoon.

Even the sensible ones I know are gloating already

I agree, I just looked through our entire squad, in terms of length of tenure - J.Rose longest, Monty 2nd longest then Neill then Storm I think. The fact that Neill at 21 and Storm at 22 are 3rd and 4th respectivily says alot! They may be the other way around but I seem to remember Pedj playing with Neill.
