In the long term, that probably means that if you're over about 25, you're not going to be with us for long - you're probably asking for more than a kid who might have greater potential to develop and (related to this) greater potential to make a buck for us.

. i am not trying to take this out of context, but i think we need a few guys in the 25-30 age bracket ... guys that are a good a-league standard. they may not be marketable to overseas teams for mega dollars, but they have an important role in the team

. there are many reasons for these type of players including 'local content' and salary cap rules ... but cohesiveness, experience and brand building building are important. one issue i think we have at the moment is that we haven't had that continuity of a few players that have 'stuck around' through this age bracket. the guys that are coming in in their mid-twenties have not only been new to the mariners many have been new to the a-league

. i think, especially for a team like ours, that a few guys in the hutch/kwas mould are important ... there are other similar examples - mcbreen, matty and wilko are a few high profile examples that could also be considered to be under similar circumstances

. losing the super talented kids overseas is likely for the foreseeable future, but losing our experienced a-league players [some were both] has arguably caused us more problems ... everybody is starting from scratch and we have been struggling, it has probably hampered the development of some of our talented youngsters too which is not good for the business model

bg you have highlighted what Mossy has been saying all season in his pressers iirc. He always talks about the importance of the senior players in the team mix and the leadership/direction they provide to the kids. I even seem to recall a presser where he mentioned that the CCM does take kids and develop their potential to an extend where they *will* go elsewhere (os) and that is one of the "raisons d'etre" of CCMFC, apart from being the Central Coast's own community football team.

. apologies if this is what mossy has been saying - i have been avoiding any 'pressers' due to the negative feedback they have received in here ... s'pose that negative feedback can now be directed at me ;)

Wasn`t there another striker from State League?
We currently have a HAL squad size of 23. These are the HAL squad rules in place atm.

I think from memory Liam Rose, Anthony Kalik and Tom Slater are our nominated Youth contracted players. Our current 2 "Non Australian" (visa) players are Vernes and Montgomery. So there are 3 senior player positions available to be filled and theoretically all could be visa players, but they won't. I think we can also ignore hiring Marquee players as outside our financial capabilities.

We have signed Dejan Pandurevic. Not sure if it's youth or senior contract. Can from Manly United FB page.

"A massive congratulations to Dejan Pandurevic who has signed a Professional Contract with the Central Coast Mariners.

A Manly United junior, Dejan has spent the last 6 months in the UK with the Nike Academy and had the option of returning to Nike, but chose CCM as his preferred career choice, following in the footsteps of Tom Rogic.

Well done Dejan and we can't wait to see you playing in the A League soon
!"

Wasn't there a write-up on us signing him somewhere, a couple of weeks ago?... Not having a go, just genuinely trying to work whether there are more :)

But yep, sounds fairly promising as a start I think. Along the lines of what has already been discussed here, I actually don't mind too much, that we sort-of do what the league was setup for in the first place, and work to give the young-uns a decelopment path... Doesn't hurt that it's been a succesful approach either, but ultimately it benefits the game too :)

EDIT: And then I clicked onto the tab, into which I had opened VicMariner's link - and spotted the article that I referred to... D'oh... So disregard the first paragraph there ;)

I'll put this out there, while I can still ride on the excitement of us having something that they don't ;)

For argument's sake, if we said you had a (n entirely hypothetical) situation where you had two clubs

a) One of the biggest and wealthiest clubs in a league, which potentially brings with it some prestige in the local market, but performs as a middling club, with little success domestically, no international participation for half a decade and which is relatively new to the thought of having an actual pathway for youth development, in part because they can throw money at expensive, experienced players

and

b) One of the smallest clubs in a league, which brings little prestige in the local market, but consistently has performed better than most, if not all, of the other clubs in the league, has played Champions League football for the last four seasons. A club which also has an established pathway for youth development as well as a successful history of the same, while it also has a smaller budget which forces it to play more of those locally developed players at it's highest levels.

In this hypothetical, you might be a young'un just starting his career. Having just faced the disappointment of not being able to get a Visa to the UK, playing football, currently. You return to your native country and try to work out what happens next. On top of everything else, the coach of club b, has engaged you before you left for the UK and offered guidance and support irrespective of your potential connection to the club.
Now, you are - hypothetically - contacted by this coach as well as the coach of club a, who promises a biggish pay-day, your metier taken into consideration with the potential for you maybe getting a game or two in the youth league this season, as well as the coach of club b, offering a smaller countract, with a relatively high likelihood of first team football.

Which team would You, Hypothetically, pick?

If you pick 'b' - go to page 240, if you pick 'a' go to h... ;)

Obviously this is hypothetical and I haven't got a clue whether Arnie even looked at this kid, I'm just pointing out that we probably shouldn't sell ourselves too short, when it comes to the attractiveness to new players... Sometimes there could be an advantage to being the small, successful firm ;)

This entire hypothetical is purely hypothetical. Any resemblance to real people, alive or dead is entirely intentional.

I think you're likely onto something. NSW now has one more club than when we were at our peak of developing kids, and we don't have Tony Walmsley on board.

On the flipside, CCF's rep program now has a *huge* name at the top of it in Ken Schembri and frankly I think we're going to go OK in structuring development programs based on the CC, we still have a presence in regional NSW (which none of the other FNSW territory clubs have), plus we're building links on the NS.

CCF is probably a decent bet to be promoted to the top flight for 2016, and thereafter there's a good set of opportunities for local kids to get into a great level of football.

SFC have just hired Kelly Cross to head their academy, which is a pretty good idea, but they're coming from a way back. That said, they've also got Sydney's player base of >160k players to draw from...

We make them they buy them. Simple as that. Hopefully we sell them overseas before they get lured by the Baby Blues.

The Mariners have the track record; it is a real draw card. We give young guns the chance. It seems to me, even with our recent turbulence, we are still outdoing Sydney and WSW. I wonder why Jake McGing, WSW NYL POTY joined us? There may be things we still do well. No one had heard of Rogic except us; we put him on the stage. I haven't heard much of Pandurevic but if he is good enough I will be well happy - and well impressed with the Club.

According to SST David Williams has asked for and received a release from Melbourne City. Maybe there is something to the rumour.

I suspect this is like Kalik and Rose. He has been training with the squad and probably has signed on from next year. Still looking for that 'Champioship level' striker.
