In the long term, that probably means that if you're over about 25, you're not going to be with us for long - you're probably asking for more than a kid who might have greater potential to develop and (related to this) greater potential to make a buck for us.
. i am not trying to take this out of context, but i think we need a few guys in the 25-30 age bracket ... guys that are a good a-league standard. they may not be marketable to overseas teams for mega dollars, but they have an important role in the team
. there are many reasons for these type of players including 'local content' and salary cap rules ... but cohesiveness, experience and brand building building are important. one issue i think we have at the moment is that we haven't had that continuity of a few players that have 'stuck around' through this age bracket. the guys that are coming in in their mid-twenties have not only been new to the mariners many have been new to the a-league
. i think, especially for a team like ours, that a few guys in the hutch/kwas mould are important ... there are other similar examples - mcbreen, matty and wilko are a few high profile examples that could also be considered to be under similar circumstances
. losing the super talented kids overseas is likely for the foreseeable future, but losing our experienced a-league players [some were both] has arguably caused us more problems ... everybody is starting from scratch and we have been struggling, it has probably hampered the development of some of our talented youngsters too which is not good for the business model
