Mariners Squad 2022/2023

I know Rudan isn’t well liked on this forum however I feel they will make the finals with the squad they have assembled. He didn’t do all that bad with the Nix and WU. The Cows proved a good squad gets results even when the Manager isn’t that flash, Mulvey at the Roar also comes to mind.
Rudan strikes me as a decent option to whip a squad into shape but not someone great at keeping the dressing room together long term. Popa seems to be the same.

Have to say.. while we knew he was gone, really poor to drop that post at 10pm. Hoping the late time slot / less audience mitigated the backlash?
Probably more to do with keeping this announcement quiet.

Detroit City FC signs winger Cy Goddard to bolster offense

Detroit City FC's men's side has called in a reinforcement with good pedigree for the home stretch of its inaugural season in USL Championship.
The club on Tuesday morning announced the signing of winger Cy Goddard, a former Tottenham youth academy player who spent his most recent season with the Central Coast Mariners of the Australia-based A-League.

Detroit City is in the USL not the MLS in an Australian version its like saying he signed for Blacktown City

What backlash? We got stitched up by La Fondres recommendation into wasting a visa spot.
Look at where he's gone. Hardly a worldbeater is he?
Backlash. Gold.
Good touch but really, a one trick pony, that clearly lacked the strength speed and engine to play at this level.

There are much better Australian youth out there, let alone visa players. My ‘backlash’ was happiness that Monty and Serge clearly know what they’re doing.

Who are you talking about?

6 posts... are you a Bozanic disciple?
I am struggling to remember any names but it has happened before during the Okon and/or Mulvey tenures, where players under contract have been sent to kick a ball around on their own at training every day in order to "encourage" them to seek out other options. Probably not an uncommon tactic in football generally when a player has become surplus to requirements with a way to go on his contract

The backlash meaning the outcry over more players leaving / losing half the squad / yada yada yada. Which is exactly the response on the fb post.

Right. People are mad. we’ve had four meaningful losses.

Sure you don’t want to lose anyone… but welcome to football. And we were never keeping Rowles. Absolutely Amazed we’ve been able to keep Birra this long and both more than deserve their opportunity. Nothing to do with the club missing a trick. Miller is the only one we shoulda/coulda maybe been able to keep for another year and or get some money for. But methcows swooped in when under Mike and took advantage of what seems to be Lewis’s own naïveté and frustration. Marcos… nothing you can do about that.

What people expect sometimes is beyond me.

But im happy with out signings so far, and very happy with all of our re-signings,

We need four more signings to be off to the races imo, CB, keeper, and two attackers.

As long as we don't go down the "Freeze players out so they ask to leave" route again to get out of the longer deals if we change out mind.
I generally think these freeze outs happen at every club especially when a new Manger comes in and he has players he doesn't want still signed for multiple years, part and parcel of professional sport. As long as we keep Monty this really shouldn't happen. Look at it from the perspective of we are finally offering contracts we should be given our philosophy of youth development and on-selling. If one or two of these contracts gets us a decent fee then its job done, having so many of these young prospects on these contracts makes a windfall for the club ever more likely over the next few seasons. I haven't seen too many complaints for any of our contract extensions for these promising young players so far. Long may it last and we just need to accept that we will see these good players move on at some stage and hopefully overseas and not to other A League clubs.
