100% Michael.

He was outstanding for a 18/19yo.....probably the BEST defensive prospect I have seen in our history.

I watched him in Mudgee (1st time i saw him in a legit game) and he was great for 60 mins and then some fat arse Blacktown player squashed his head and he dissolved and was gassed and started making a few mistakes. I thought Monty made a mistake picking him in front of Noah smith.
The 1st game of the season came and boy did I eat humble pie. He was a revelation. He had a couple of games where he showed some rawness but overall he was superb.
The Lisarow High boy is the real deal and will definitely play for Australia.
Allreet is normally a good judge but i'm tipping he was not a defender because he is wide of the mark this time.
Agree with all of this but will just correct one detail - he's a Central Coast Sports College (ne: IFS) product.

His coaches at school, who included Kwassie, MacBreen, Porter and Zwaanswijk - and towards the end Josh Rose - would say that he read the game way better than anyone his age and he was nearly always best on field.

At 19 the growth to come with that foundation is huge, and he's already A-League standard

Unless you are that white-bearded LB from Avoca then i wont be impressed. That guy was f**king impeccable, hard as nails and never made a mistake and played from 35A's through to 45's.....if you are he, then i'm listening.

Its not on a rookie 18yo LB to be running the players around him.....thats on the other players tbh.
No idea who you mean. The only white beard I can think of in recent years was Stevie Numan who's given it away (but he was a sweeper). We do have two O45 teams and I've been LB and captain of the lower ranked team for donkeys years. I'm the angry, bald f***er who never shuts up.

Mind you, I played state league and heaps of premier league in my time (and coached premier league) so I know a ball watcher out of position when I see one. Dobbie's point about Kye's absence is important also. I've been a tad worried about how Faz goes with no KR inside. He was good last year but we need him to go to a new level this year.

Always thought Nick Olsen was decent for Brisbane when he played and is very versatile.
I’ve seen footage of Peter Makrillos too, who looked decent.

but we can do better than them. It’s an interesting list of players, some out of our reach and some would lower our level.

Who do you play for? Avoca? I was thinking you were the bald headed English bloke that played for Wyoming. Gobby but a decent player, in fact, a level above most of your team mates.
If thats you..... we (Kariong) smashed you 6.0 at Alan Davison oval and you were the stand out.

No, I play for Avoca. We went down 8-4 to Kariong last week. Kariong were the better team but the ref gave them 2 goals.

Anyway, back to the proper topic...

So you would have lost by 2 anyways lol. I only played 1 season of 45's (last year). Down in C's and the level was way better than i expected.....everyone could play but most people were slow.

This Avoca legend played in 35's. Pretty sure he played A's down to B's as we got older (and he played 5 at side at Pluim as well). I retired in 2016 after doing my knee at Pluim.
Kariong had no depth so as we got older we sunk to C's.....beat Avoca 2.0 in GF (old mate must have still been in A or B coz he wasnt there) and promoted back to B's to face him again. We played them at Kariong when they only had 7 or 8 players and he was immense. He just kept thwarting us and kept the score to 6.0. One of the best fullbacks I have crossed swords with.

Still don't have a scooby who you're talking about. I've played for Avoca since 2001 in every grade from AA2 down to 45Ds so I must've played many times with the chap you're talking about.

Never mind. Back to the Mariners squad...

As much as I don't want the Australia Cup not to be a priority it is looking like it. Peil comments on FNR also alluded to us being "competitive" rather than gunning for going one better, which perhaps shows the level of ambition the club is heading in with. We shouldn't rush into signings just because we have a game coming up. Especially when the main season is still a number of months away.

Our currently signed squad is solid despite having a few glaring holes, and a far better side at this point in pre-season then where we were in the dark days of Walmsley/Okon/Mulvey. Our current side is far more likely to get a result against Sydney and even if we lose we don't have to suffer through the embarassment of another defeat to an NPL side.

Given that at least one of Urena's/Birighitti's depatures was somewhat of a shock, at least according to Richard Peil on FNR, we need to be patient and look at all options before proceeding. I'm sure Ken, Monty and Sergio have options on the table but they need time to fully assess them. At this point players that are a cultural fit are probably more important than their footballing ability considering we have lost nearly all our leadership group.
