It's good to see we are putting faith in our system but has he improved substantially in the past few seasons?

I dont think it's good or bad but the question needs to be what's changed? If there's no staffing or significant changes in our keeper training then how can we expect a different result? Bringing in a new number 1 would mask the issue but not help his chances of becoming a first choice standard keeper.

Not sure how I feel about Pearce being re-signed, especially for two years, I hope there are some KPIs we have in there that could allow us to potentially terminate early. To be honest I think there are better young keepers out there who we could secure on a scholarship rather than a full contract, isn't Munford rated fairly highly? It's good to see we are putting faith in our system but has he improved substantially in the past few seasons?

Wouldn't be a bad idea to loan him out to an NPL side for the winter to give him some game time.
I’m not sure myself either. In saying that I don’t think he’s any worse than redmayne was....

A few of those released Sheffield boys would be excellent pick ups for us. End of.

Jake Wright and Martin Cranie would fill our experienced and high quality CB spot perfectly. Conor Washington would be very good up front in the aleague. Same with Leon Clarke.
Samir Carruthers is a very good versatile attacking mid.

Get onto them Monty/Phelan.

The problem with being as bad as we have been over the last few years is we've run out of room for slip ups, I'd be very surprised if the club doesnt want to give our youth a shot but are also acutely aware of our situation and that makes for a tricky balancing act and a lot of pressure. You could make an argument for playing those guys once our season was ruined but we also couldn't afford to do anything other than play our first team because of the exceptionally shitty position we were in. Damned if we do, damned if we don't.

That’s how I see it. Failure and criticism makes people typically more risk adverse not less.

Hoping Pearce will be back up and first choice is still on the cards. If he competes for and earns first place keeper then I'm happy for him to take it, but demand it with form he must.

Hahaha no no not here. Just a realist that knows those players would be very very good here. Like most championship players would. Even many league 1 players.
Just saying that it’s the easiest possible way to get a couple experienced championship level players to fill 2 of our biggest problem areas. A hard nosed quality CB and hard working experienced technical striker. Through Monty’s connections.
Would you honestly scoff at that prospect?

Everyone rants and raves about the success of Le Fondre here and fair enough, but the truth is he was usually pretty average in the championship. Conor Washington for example has much better pedigree.

Yeah has to be second string.

He’s clearly a way off with his distribution still. But I think comes for the ball well, talks, and seems a decent enough shot stopper.

Pearcey is a weapon at training. Needs to consistently carry that through to game day, which I think is a mental/confidence thing for him? Hopefully Staj (and hopefully a new GK coach....) can get his head right/get the best out of him. Still thinking he’ll be second choice, interested to see who we bring in as #1.

We are in deep shit if he is first choice.

I can see a half decent keeper in there somewhere. Is he better than Munford....probably not.

just gimme bielsa and a bag of spuds. hal title first yr.

Someone posted a stupid article on this website.....does the manager really matter?

Clearly written by an idiot but some people thought there may be some valid points.

Bielsa inherited a slightly stronger squad but without the gun CF , they sold Woods for 15m and replaced him with an average Bamford for 7m. (Pikey would approve but it's cost Leeds 100m if they don't go up so it's very very dumb business).

However, without a decent manager Leeds would have struggled to make the 6 even with Woods.
With Bielsa and Woods in the team they would have won the league easily.
Leeds have won the stats in every single game this year but have been so weak in front of goals. Also they signed a Spanish (Barcelona I think) keeper and he has been shit (he was brought in to support a very good quality but inexperienced Local keeper).
So not having a top quality keeper and striker has cost us 100m even with the best manager in the Championship.

Lessons for all.

BTW Leeds are still favs to win the play offs......I'm not so sure.

At least we will be fine if a fight breaks out. Angriest man alive

Not great news for us rebuilding. If you were to divide the concessions amongst the 9 starting non marquee players it's around 44k each more they can spend. Easy to see how they can out spend teams like us and brisbane as well as having a fresh start. It makes 2+ year deals even smarter now so Macarthur can't poach for their first season.
I guess it probably matters not if they spread those concessions between us/roar and 2 new teams... we don’t spend full cap anyway.
You are right though, those 2 year deals make sense.

Oh get f**ked (FFA, not you). How on earth is that a good idea? And why is it even required?? On-field, with a salary cap, there's no disadvantage to new teams. Heck, by not having to deal with underperforming players still on contract they even have some advantages.

Yeah salary cap increases only hurt the lower teams but has to go up to some degree. 400k was what 12.5 odd percent increase. Could have been worse I guess. Though clubs seem to manoeuvre around it pretty well.

EDIT. Wait hang on it’s just for them? What’s the rationale?
