I think this is good work. Would not have liked to see him go to City or someone else.

I like Rowles. He’s made some errors, but he’s got grit and decent speed. Has also made some great last ditch tackles these past two years.

Aspro looked more composed but he is a couple years older. At still only 20 I think Rowles in a back 4, with a proper keeper behind him and an experienced quality CB next to him to learn off, will flourish.

As of ~ 3 months ago, the recruitment/contract process started with phelan, then onto mulvey/Monty, then Charlesworth, and then onto Shaun at the end. Based on a press release from a couple of months ago which stated that Shaun will continue to report to the board on administrative and commercial operations of the football club, with Phelan looking after the football department, I’d suggest that process hasn’t really changed (aside from the obvious Mulvey not being here).
Cheers mate much appreciated, that explains why all our signings have been very English centric I guess. Disappointing to hear that Charlesworth is in anyway involved with football decisions apart from setting the available budget. With Phelan looking like he will stay at Manchester United does that mean he is no longer involved in the process? I assume Stajcic/Monty/Arrarte would be involved now as well. Who negotiates the actual terms, salary/years/bonuses/automatic extensions, of the contract though?

Makes sense to me. Though I also heard from an informed source that mike Phelans opinions, not surprisingly, carried a lot (re most of) the weight.

Anyway, it seems, due to what we’ve endured, it’s very hard for anyone to extend any charity toward the club and the efforts of Shaun and co. We’re heavily geared to assume the worst of all interactions. But after so much Pavlovian training, what else can the club expect? I’m a glass half full guy but the writing is on the wall. And the ceiling and the bloody floor for that matter.

I will say, from what I can tell Shaun and our staff are honest, well intentioned, hard workers. So if we can hold our negativity in check, it can only help. BUT for whatever reasons they’ve also failed for too long. So they should really ditch any community get behind the club talk (that’ll come in time off the back of the right work by the club) middys right, they need to earn that back again, so right now it’s only going to piss most people off. Instead just focus on and bring us into the loop on the only things the fans now want to hear...

We’ve released x number of players, loaned out Weemac and by hell or high water will sign 5 high quality visa players to anchor our side and will be spending to ensure we can secure some of the best Australian senior talent to fill the other spots and then work to bring in as much of the best youth in the country we can to challenge for those spots.

No one wants to hear anything else. And nothing good will come from letting us stew.

I think they really needs to start talking to us again. But not vague visions, youth policies or anything else. Just talk to us about how you’re setting about rebuilding the team. Bring us in on the strategy and make us feel a part of the club again.

What does everyone else think?

I think he no longer wanted to surrender everything after Okon who did EVERYTHING his way, f**ked up so badly with Adsrubal.

But MC and Shaun were clearly led by Mulvey Monty and Phelan in the signings last season. So that debacle is on them.

Our future lies in the hope the new board and Staj can finally get our visa players right.

No promising youth signings or even decent Australian signings will change our fortunes imo. Those 5 visa spots will make or break us I think.

Whole-heartedly agree Phoenix, Rowles is a real prospect for the future and it's good to have him locked down for two years. Put a decent and experienced centre back next him and he will have that U23 Centre back spot locked down. He is someone we can rebuild our team around.

I can understand wanting more control after Okon but at the same time it doesn't really show faith in the new coach's abilities. While Mulvey was ultimately a failure it feels like Charlesworth is just pre-empting that any coach we sign is going to be a failure. I doubt any other player with Asdrubal's CV would have failed as badly as he did. I am really hesitant to want anyone not actually in the footballing department and managerial experience having any input into player signings. All Shaun and Charlesworth should be doing is help to negotiate contracts.

Kekeris has been released. Very f**king annoying. How can a club go from the breeding ground of Aussie football to the graveyard in just a few years? It’s still the one thing that continues to shock me with our club.

Watch them re-sign Hoole and Kennedy.

I think you’re on the money and possibly why they’re holding off talking about any underwhelming signings that might fill out the squad. Some renewals are good but you start throwing around names like Majok or Ingham without giving us something more substantial and you’re going to have a riot on your hands and people screaming nothing has changed.

The club more than ever needs to act rather than talk, we got sucked in by Mulveys words and record and it was our worst season ever afaik. The words no longer have any weight.

Did he perform horrifically in training or something? On just watching the games he was more than up to A-League standard with potential for more, he definitely deserved a place as a squaddie at the very least. If Hoole gets re-signed over him then we are insane.

It's very worrying that we seem to have absolutely no faith in the youngsters our academy is producing, from this to letting Wales go over a pittance, Gianni Stensness going to the Phoenix, Liam Rose being let go, Buhagiar leaving for Sydney FC, Heward-Belle departing for Sydney FC and Steve Whyte dominating NPL Queensland. While not all of these are directly the club's fault from a negotiating point of view they are from a man management one. We have been consistently the worst A-League side for four seasons now, that should have at the very least allowed us to give some good young players game time and actually keep them. But the strategy that we supposedly set out with at the beginning of that faithful pre-season four years ago has arguably never been actually implemented. Wern't we supposed to be the club who produces young players to sell on? Wasn't the reason Tony Walmsley became our manager because he could promote the youth from inside the club? That never happened, we continue to not show any faith in anyone who comes through our system and we are paying the price for that. We especially don't seem to realise their value when we are negotiating contracts and how much it would cost to the replace them suitably.

Kekeris is the latest in a long line of players who haven't been valued properly by us, and while there will always be youth players who don't make the grade we need to show actual faith in those that have shown that they can. When we find a diamond in the rough we seem to not know what we are looking at and pass it off to whoever wants it. Now is the time to be bold with players from our system, players that have grown up with the club and care about it. Players that can restore pride and the magical "Mariners" spirit. We need our young players more than ever, committed to earning their first professional contract and fighting for pride again, not players just collecting another paycheck.

On a serious note why would kids want to come to our acedamy. Sure they get a couple of games at the end of shit seasons but they get moved on without a real go.

Maybe they don’t shine in training but some players don’t. But put them on the field and they turn into something else.

Kekeris had X factor and could do things our starters couldn’t and he wasn’t given a go.

Seriously the way we are treating our kids is the biggest joke in this whole shit storm.

We are expecting them to be something at 19 and if they aren’t it we show them the door without a proper crack.
Is it the stupid setup of only being aloud to have an under 20’s team? Probably has a big part to play but we are picking up some NPL players with no better skills.

It’s embarrassing what our development has become and MC thinks that’s his cash cow. Haha.

You need a strong 7-8 senior players and two or three of these kids to go with them.

We have lost all structures and are a total shit show

That’s without even mentioning our NYL captain who is a local product and he couldn’t even get a run in the shittest team that had absolutely f all CB’s

He turned 20 yesterday. What a birthday present.
Was he at the medal dinner?

I hope he gets another aleague side and scores against us just like lachie did. Spitting in the face of Charlesworth/Mulvey.

If Kek’s has been given the boot to make room for these rumoured WSW youth boys that’s piss poor. Who’s next? Letting Miller, Glasso, Nizzy go? Especially with those Nizzy contract rumours a couple months back.
If I was an academy lad I’d seriously considering ditching the club. The writings on the wall as far as I’m concerned. We don’t trust the youth players we’re supposedly developing.
If they’re apparently not upto to the grade when they reach 19-20 then that is 90% the fault of the clubs youth structure imo.

As i`ve said before,he`ll play for the Socceroos.
At 20 years old he is such a determined defender and gives everything he has.
