He is or was a cock head.

BUT as a player he was an excellent keeper. He was the last keeper that we had that wasn't a joke.

I gave him a spray at the last game when he fist pumped the air when they beat us 3.0 but secretly i admire him as a keeper.
Agree. Had just edited my post to reflect this when you were replying. Nice work on the spray

I used to give Covic a few. Not sure why coz he was quality as well.
Izzo....it feels like bullying.

Covic was always a very good keeper. Reddy less so - but he did use some tried and tested keeper tricks in the penalty shoot out. The commentators kept on saying he picked the way the players were going. He didn't. He suggested to the Adelaide players which way to go. Look at the penalties he saves. He sets up slightly to one side - leaving the other side as a wider target. As the Adelaide players take the bait he knows that he has increased the odds of knowing it will go to the more open side. Izzo for some weird reason did it once and then dived to the closed side.

So looking at the final 4 in HAL. To be competitive you need 2-3 ex/fringe roos. 1 excellent foreigner, a couple serviceable ones.
Can we afford all that? We had Tommy H and Jem who I'd call serviceable. Nothing else really

Can we afford it? Unlikely.

Can we attract it even if we CAN afford it, no.

The best I think we can realistically hope for is to spend overs on enough talent to get us in the final 8. If we can do that for 2 seasons we may go some way to undoing all the bad work done, giving us a launch pad to potentially signing some genuine top 4 talent.

Turning it around in 1 offseason will not happen from our position. It has taken 5 years of misery to reach our current status within the league, it will take numerous years to rebuild our club and brand.

If you attract the right 5 visa players they don't have to cost the earth. Roy was not inordinately expensive but did a great job with poor service. Once you have that and assume Oar is one of your ex/fringe Socceroos. The others that fit that criteria that are available at the moment are below. which two would you pick? Which ones are likely to want to come/stay in Australia? Which ones are affordable?

Love how youve run with that.
Id say an excellent marquee is ninkovic, toivonen, isias. roy o isnt it that plane.
Id look at williams, jedi and juric.
those 3 cover some areas of deficit for mine.

Didn't really mean that Roy was at that excellent foreigner status- more just saying they can be brought in relatively cheaply. Isias came from Spain 3rd division I think and would have been relatively cheap initially.

Theres absolutely gems to be found in more established leagues. i think its more about attitude and adaptability with foreigners. theyre likely to be much more skillful.
We need a CB like Schenkeveldt, he to me is exactl what were lacking down back.

There are plenty of gems out there but we don't have the capacity/organisation to scout, assess and vet these players. We haven't had since Arnie.

The amount of due diligence Arnie went through to sign Patrick was immense. He had contacts overeseas, he viewed multiple videos, he made enquiries as to his character and fit and he flew to Holland to personally interview him.

I doubt we are even doing a smidgen of this.

IMO, The resources are there. The process and utilisation is wrong.

I honestly don't think we have the contacts overseas and the scouting network established to properly scout and assess players, therefore the resources are not there. And that includes one of our board members owning a small club in Malta.

This was plainly evident in January where we utilised our only viable contact in Monty and Sheffield United to gain two inferior imports.

I’m 100% sure we have no scouting network.
We rely on the head coaches player knowledge and if he knows any other actual scouts/agents. Then whichever other coaching staff have any connection.
Then it’s down to players sending us their CV’s. We’re kind of lucky I guess that we can use some of Phelans connections but I dare say they only stretch so far in the UK. And that link, I’m assuming, is all but dead now.
Not something an established pro club can be proud of.

Anyone remember a few years back when the club announced a few scouts... Dave Mitchell was one and kwassie was to be the locally based one. I spoke with kwas at the time. He basically said it was a nothing role.

Sorry but apart from a 7 month review of our youth set up which made zero changes and delivered a worse outcome (results this season are awful) what has Phelan actually done?
Selected the coach? Nope
Reorganised the football Dept? Nope
Built a scouting network? Nope
Hopefully Charlesworth will actually deliver some leadership and direction while he is here this week

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
Since Tuggerah is all buddy buddy with Oles offsider....get him to send Tommy Chong down here for a year ...I would be most ecstatic if that happened
