A very solid signing though. This is presumably the Korean replacement, so now a visa CB or a Visa striker to come?
The Balkan player rumour and the scouting trip had been known for a long time, I don’t think this is our Korean replacement. I suspect we would have had Lee wide and the new player in the middle with DDS which would have put Ingham & Silvera on the bench. In that case we would have had visa players RW AM DM RB & weemac.

I’m not sure that RW is the best place to use a visa spot but that’s just my thinking about what local players are available. Would love to know what Staj has in mind regarding the back line and striker.

Edit - maybe the plan to have a visa RW was part of the Ingham situation, not wanting to have a player on decent wages just sitting on the bench and limiting minutes for development prospects like Silvera and Majok?

I'm actually starting to feel excited about the season ahead. The next FFA Cup game is going to be interesting too now we have some new talent. This sense of optimism is disturbing...!

I'm getting optimistic about the season - less for the next FFA game where at this stage we will have 3 of our 5 signed defenders unavailable. Another CB about now would be very handy.

If only we had a big, tall, aggressive, has-been striker that we could put there in the interim...!

I'd actually love to see Miller promoted, maybe this is his big chance.

I've been watching the show reel for this Serb, he looks like a perfect compliment to Murray. If he can feed him with what looks like some very accurate passing I reckon Murray will tuck them away.

Big call. I hope Staj can get more out of him but I think we’re downplaying how successful Murray was in the NPL before we poached him. No doubt there’s a step up in opposition but IMO the game plan didn’t suit the kind of player he is. If we can play to his strengths (and I think we can) we’ll get a better indication of where he’s at in this level.

Everyone rates Murray very highly and seem to believe all he needs is good service. And I’m not without hope for him too. He ran rampant in a very good Appiah side. But his quality finishing in a very good NPL side is still not the same as creating goals and carving out a career at HAL level.

I’ve been looking, and I’m withholding judgement because of how shit we were last year, but to date I just haven’t seen the extra edge of speed, skill on the ball or strength that a striker needs to distinguish himself and break through at this level imo. He has a better vertical leap than most. And a good footballers head. But I’m not convinced that’s enough. We’ll see. Love to see him kill it this year.

Majok looked a little raw, but in speed, acceleration and on the ball looked like he may have that extra edge, and has an excellent work rate, but I’ve only seen a handful of his games.

Last year should have been his breakout season and unfortunately the circumstances were not conducive. I am also a bit concerned that the moment might have passed him by but I still don't think he's been given enough opportunities to show what he can do. With the midfield quality we're building If he hasn't got the goods it will show pretty early I think. For me he suits being a goal hanger, get him the ball near the goal and he'll score. I don't expect him to be a creative genius but I am expecting a goal hungry mongrel that'll take his chances.

That's exactly how he played at Apia.

He looks like a genuinely two-footed player (gotta love that) who can both attack and defend.

I know highlight reels can be notoriously misleading but what I saw I most definitely like.

Hope he can compliment Kim and they give us the midfield security and dominance we have been sorely lacking for some time.

Ruiz-Diaz scored for the Aus U19’s tonight, will be good for his confidence. Staj likes him a lot so hopefully gets more minutes this season.

Dunno bout you but did you actually watch the game and see the F GRADE LEVEL of football? Actually thought Cambodia were a lot better technically and tactically tbh
