Yeah make no mistake the more attacking Lee Sang, who’s been given #7, will be crucial to any success we have. More so than a DM.
Silvera will play back up to him. Which is a big positive in itself. Silvera was so good lastnight it wasnt funny, very good first impression for me personally.
Sucks that it seems like the DM one is gone but I was petrified it was lee sang leaving. We could have an extremely dynamic positional rotating attack with DDS, Oar, Silvera and lee sang can all play on either side or #10. Murray or an even better visa striker can thrive with that service.

And also if the Korean DM leaves, that’s a visa spot available, budget allocated, and the need for a quality DM recognised.
I’d say if we sign the striker, Lee Sang, now Birraz, our team looks a lot more attractive than it did a few weeks ago, so should be an easier sell.

Oar and DDS were both impressive. Weemac is so much fitter this year and looked a HAL player last night. His crossing was excellent but his dead ball stuff was shit...go figure??
Silvera is very good. His first touch was average in the first 10 minutes but his movement wasnt. Once he grew in confidence he looked an exciting prospect........and he can deliver a dead ball.

The Jock put in a good shift and saved a goal with a superb covering tackle in the last 10 mins. Clisby was good early but got a bit sloppy as the game went on.
Tonyak looked slightly better than GG.

I think Mayok would have scored a couple (but he was out with a virus)

Pearce kept his first clean sheet ever. Maitland were tough and organised and a bit dirty at times but the home town ref was obliging.

Nissy put in a good shift when he came on.

And Maitland kops a bad rap alot of the time but the ground was excellent and the locals were very cool. I didnt see a single dickhead (apart from the bloke in the Mirage lol) so unlike Newcastle scum the Maitland people were excellent.

I for one was actually impressed when Matty dropped back into the Rb/Cb position.
As i`ve said for quite a while, his days as a forward are over, yet he still has something to offer the team.
Big,strong, decent in the air and with a reputation for toughness why not convert him to a backline player?
What`s the worst that could happen?
We still have a few months before the season starts and with a few more trial games it may just work....

A bit late to be teaching the old dog new tricks. Probably doing defenders a disservice there too implying he could pick up the nuances adequately in time to play at an A league level. Plus you don’t want him doing his trademark ‘disruption’ anywhere near the box.

Realistically he should be battling to make the bench this season and I wouldn’t want to see the club make him any offer to keep playing at the end of his contract. By all means bring him on to the staff if they want to but his days in the A league have to be numbered. I guarantee if we released him tomorrow no one else is picking him up.

Many have been calling for a quality keeper now we have one. Excited to have Birighitti at the Mariners. And an added bonus is it will really annoy jets fans.

Yea
It’s an option but I think I like the idea of using him as an impact player and getting the odd start in busier periods over summer or if the main striker isn’t 100%. But give him at least 20-25 minutes not just 10 here or there.
Yeah again, agree, just ditto to my above post.

Seen crazier things. He looked pretty comfortable there except for one deer in the headights moment.

Could never be as good a defender as O'Grady was up front!!

Looks to me like the only bloke who won’t walk out on a contract is Matty Simon...just when we think it would be a good idea...f**kin marvellous

And he shouldn't. Bloke's got a family to support and this may be his best payday for some time. Even if he loves the club, wants it to succeed and recognises a need I doubt many love it enough to effectively sacrifice 6 figures out of their own pocket and it would be massively unfair to expect it of him. The same with any number of overpaid players in recent years that dont have a comparable deal on the horizon.

I remember his love and loyalty to the club when he celebrated with the Cove after scoring against us

Granted he would need to make adjustments to his game, but he may also be more comfortable
facing his opponent rather than having his back to them.
He would also give some height to the back 4.
As much as I like Nesbit, at DM he`s not going to be effective at HAL level due to his height.
I think he would be more suited to a 10 role later in the game.

From what I remember around the time of his exit I don't think there was much mutual love or loyalty there, but time and a big pay packet heals some wounds. But that wasn't my point anyway, regardless of commitment and loyalty walking away would be far too great of a personal sacrifice.

Absolutely agree about Nisbet and have said so previously. You could however play him next to a big body because he is very good at pinching pockets.
