Welcome Birraz. Very happy with this signing.

The release of Jai Ingham allowed us to pay a little more to get our keeper so don’t expect an upgrade signing to replace Ingham.

RE: Jai Ingham

I wonder if it was the Mariners or him that were more keen to part ways?

If it was the Mariners, then we've saved ourselves some (future) wages for a player we don't want and we can re-allocate them to a player that suits our vision.

But if it was Jai, then I really hope we pushed Brisbane for wage compensation for the past 8 weeks (he trained for 6, but I believe that the contracts usually start on June 1st?).
I'm guessing he might have been on 80k?
That's $1600 a week. Multiplied by 8 = $12 800
That's 13k which is massive for a club as poor as us.

And we got nothing for it. If anything we helped get him fit for Brisbane for free...
This is a very unusual situation.

Considering he signed on when we were in the dumpster and still under MM I would not be surprised if that number is very conservative. We spent our cash pretty poorly last year.

Reading between the lines of Shaun’s comment in the fan thread I suspect we were paying more than we would have if the offer was made in the off-season. Whether that means we asked if he wanted to look around or were just happy when Fowler got in his ear I’m not sure.

By all reports it's the Korean winger who is staying with us and not the CDM... That sucks, does anyone have more info?

Only that he was reported as a good leader but later became more injury prone one and rarely played back top back games

The CDM was training on Tuesday and looked fit, the Korean winger wasn’t there at all. Don’t know how much we can read into that.

Everybody remember Shane Smeltz conducting dental surgery on him?

What am I missing, why is this such an exciting signing? A quick look on wikipedia doesn't reveal a great deal of success over the last few years....

The winger looked levels above the CDM. The Middy was a nugget and organised and miles better than Melling but i'd pick the winger over him everyday day of the week.

You must have a short memory mate. And yes he got his teeth kicked out and was back in no time. Imagine our recent keepers being so tough.

He is probably slightly better than Reddy. If you are not excited by that, after the mugs we have had in goals........................

Silvera has that position covered,he was sensational last night and will only get better with more game time...
I agree and I’m ok with Silvera getting a shot but that still puts us in a risky spot with depth. Don’t want to be gambling our success on Oar staying fit and Silvera thriving. Not to mention depending on which Seoul brother is rumoured to leave we might want the option of playing Oar more centrally. Thats why I think Ingham is crazy to leave unless he was pushed.

I thought Oar and DDS pressed really well last night and its the 1st time I've seen DDS put in a shift. We tired horribly with about 20 to go because its still early in our pre season.
Maitland were NSWPL2 level at best but you can only beat whats in front of you

Ingham has already gone - he left at the start of the week. He signed a pre-contract agreement with Mulvey in January and apparently does not like Stajic.
Same goes for one of the Koreans. He said that he didn't think he could reach the fitness levels needed but also wasn't a huge fan of the coach.

Good riddance then.

We havent lost him, we didnt want him. Big difference.
Hope we are keeping the DM Korean. After yet another shocker from Simon we desperately need that striker.

I thought you knew something. You didn’t simply deride Ingham in standard FFC form, but seemed very certain he was surplus.

Silvera at the moment, maybe Majok depending on formation if we sign a visa striker but we'd have pretty much no depth in the event of an injury. I would have liked to see how Ingham went for us but if he's a MM signing and was picked up when we were at rock bottom I have to wonder if we were paying overs for him. If we're going out looking for players now under Staj and potentially with a new keeper, one of the Koreans confirmed, new visa striker plus the other signings we've made I think we're a far better proposition now than we were then.

Murray to RW if we sign a striker. Already have visa player, Majok and Matty. Good time to be a young player at the Mariners I reckon. We have a clue at last but still need to rely on young talent.
