Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Mariners sell supporters short.... again

Finally, a comment from Mr Gorman. It wouldn't hurt to have a media release on the website or even an email to members explaining the reasons. Might just prevent a fair bit of angst. Like any relationship, communication is key.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/sport/football/a-league/smeltz-gives-gold-coast-citizenship-reward/2009/04/23/1240079797796.html?page=2

Gorman, meanwhile, confirmed the Mariners would be taking two home matches away from Gosford next season - against Perth Glory [September 4] and Adelaide United [October 31] - because of ground maintenance on the troubled Bluetongue Stadium surface.

"I think everyone would agree we want the pitch to return to its former condition," Gorman said.

Canberra Stadium has been mooted as a possible choice for one game because of the Mariners' partnership with ACT football.

I talked to a friend who works for the council and has some say in the maintenance of BTS just after our first ACL game. He had been in one of the boxes during the game and was amazed at my spit about the continuing poor state of the pitch. There seems to be a blind spot in council about what is required for football as opposed to thugby.

Council does not maintain the pitch. They just pay for it.

Ultimatelty currently they have no need to know what would be best for when, because it is up to stadium management, who hire the contractors, as well as the tennants to put forth their preference and decide if it is adequate.

As a good guidance note, tell your friend to look at the lawn bowls greens (the real grassed ones not the synthetic), and tell him that that sort of snooker table flat smooth surface is what players want, to play good football. If the soil is a little clay based and rock hard, maybe a bit of softness underneath by applying a fair amount of gypsum would help to soften the pitch underfoot.

Rugby League and Union players, however, could play on a cow paddock & not bother their game style.

well after seeing how good we played tonight
I say we move out of Australia :p
Our only 2 decent games since the new year have been overseas

It's true that Mariners play better away from Gosford..... yep....let's move, but not overseas.... let's get back to North Sydney where the team belongs.

Note: for those who don't remember that far back.... CCM started as NSFC!

If we do have to move a couple of games, why not use NSO especially for the Friday night game. I might even come down from the prawn sandwich seats to have a run on the old Mac Terrace...

NSO sound great...why didn't I think of that?

Welcome to 1997!

Two good seasons then what happened?

These comments are pretty insulting the majority of Mariners fans who did not support NS.

When are gooses like you two gunna stop getting misty eyed about old soccer and all that went with it and get with the times. You lot had your go and ended up completely stuffing up the game by about 2002/3. Let the new generation take Football onwards and upwards from here. Where's Paolo for his reply?  :tv:

TBF - i think sacko wouldn't mind a game at NSO for nostalgia's sake. i think it's just striker (and maybe ursus in his madder moments) that would like the team to move.

Please do not drag me into this paranoid discussion. I have no desire for the team to move.

Sorry Ursus, thought I had remembered something from yonks ago, but must be mistaken. Apologies.

Apologies unnecessary. I have made comments in the past with "tongue firmly in cheek" about the "good old days" at NSO. However  all were in jest and never serious.

I think many here do not know when to take Striker seriously or when to laugh.

The FFA will take some games from the entire A-League to the regions to "test the waters" from time to time but the Mariners, (if they do not go bust) will still be on the Coast in 2050.

from today's Canberra Times:

"Canberra Stadium is in line to host two premiership A-League matches this season.
Stadium manager Neale Guthrie confirmed yesterday he was in discussions with Football Federation Australia about hosting two Central Coast Mariners ''home games'' later this year.

The Mariners' games, against Perth Glory on September4 and Adelaide United on October31, need to be moved from the club's home at Gosford due ground maintenance.

Guthrie and Mariners chief executive Lyall Gorman confirmed yesterday that the ACT stadium was an option.

''There is a window where we look like we need to move two games away and we are very happy to have discussions with Canberra and it is one of a few options we are looking at,'' Gorman said."

I do hope that if the club agrees to move the games to Canberra, they provide buses for those with season tickets who may end up paying for this.

Otherwise, keep the cost of those games out of the season ticket?

I do feel, however, that if they were serious about this being just a 'ground maintenance' issue & not a wish to become nomads whoring themselves to regions wanting to see an A-League game, they'd relocate to another venue closer to the Central Coast, so that fans have a chance to get there without planning for a whole day!

Hell even the indignity of playing a 'home' game out of EAS may appear more acceptable to those who want to see the matches, but have to drag along a family.

Would love for one of these two matches to be a WIN stadium in Wollongong. Apparently its an awesome ground for football/ singing etc. Also trainable from the coast for those diehards/season ticket holders who wont get a bus organised by CCMFC/FFA

If FFA are using this as a measure of the proposed bids, then the 'gong might be a possibility to host a match. In saying that, I pray that one of our matches does not go to Tasmania.

Would be an interesting exercise if the Mariners were doing alright in the comp. and Newcastle were cellar dwellers, how many from Newcastle we'd attract to the game?

Yeah, I know, it's a horrid thought, but those who are more casual spectators would be arguing why not use that venue  :vomit:  instead of travelling 300k's to Canberra? If you have a couple of kids or travelling as a group of a couple of families, it makes more sense to go to Newcastle than Canberra (barring the politics of the issue).

And hell, the Marinators have pwned the Cove's home once (GF), why not the Squadron's, lol? :tv:

I agree - buses/reduced season tickets would be great. Looking at Wellington Phoenix though, their membership packages will apparently include their 2 "home" games in Palmerston North & Christchurch.

We would not be playing scum.

ID prefer they move the game to pluim and make it members only. At least then we could get to the game.

For me it comes down to two choices either NSO as a kinda "Going Home Again" or Canberra ... however like most I would love the pitch to be fixed during the NRL season...

Because he is running backwards.

Shirt on inside out.

Photo taken via a mirror.

Photoshopped or otherwise flipped.

Take your pick.

Agree. As major tennants, surely it should begin the day after we play tead, leaving over 2 months til we play again in a-league.

Maybe there is another reason, maybe, given the current economic times, the club is worried about the cost of season tickets going up significantly, escpecially with the coast one of the more affected regions. Maybe they see a slower build up in price and matches as prudent.

I guess that is something they would not announce officially.

Maybe it has something to do with the type of grass they want to grow? Not all grass grows right at all times of the year.
