Hutcho's 228 CCM game record, looks to be most likely broken:

Melbourne Victory veteran Leigh Broxham is positioned to break appearance records after signing on for a further two A-League seasons with the club.

Broxham, who is poised to play his 200th match this weekend against Western Sydney Wanderers, has committed to Victory until at least the end of the 2017-2018 season.

Aged 28, he is on track to break the all-time record for appearances for a single club, currently held by John Hutchinson, who played 228 games for Central Coast Mariners.

Only Archie Thompson (217) has played more games for Victory than Broxham, who made his debut in the 2006-2007 season.

Meanwhile, Broxham said he is confident he can get through another four A-League seasons, after a suggestion it would probably get him over the line for a triple-century.

"I can do four more, no problem," Broxham said.

But while he's focused on what's ahead, Carl Valeri's stand-in captain also reflected on his decade at Melbourne Victory, which has included some wonderful memories.

"I've had to work hard at everything I've done over my career but there are a lot of people in my situation," he said.

"It's been difficult at times but I'm proud of what I've achieved so far.

"I think it'll be something I look back on when I'm finished but for the time being I'm just happy with how things are going."

Broxham is confident fourth-placed Victory could rebound from last weekend's disappointing 3-2 loss to Perth Glory against Western Sydney Wanderers at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

"This weekend is very important," he said.

"It's a big game and they're doing well - they're the benchmark at the minute.

"But we're more than well-equipped to get a result against them, especially at home."

Wilkinson can't wait to hit the ground running:

New signing Alex Wilkinson can't wait to call Victoria home as he looks to hit the ground running with new club Melbourne City.

Given the form of the Melbourne club, Wilkinson believes it was a obvious choice to sign for the title chasers.

“City was an obvious choice for me,” Wilkinson said.

“The facilities are unbelievable and it was a Club that made me feel really wanted.

“I spoke to the coaching staff and they were all keen to get me down here and I spoke to all the boys and they had nothing but positive things to say about the Club so it’s just great to be involved with a Club that is so ambitious and chasing its first title. It's exciting to be a part of.

“We definitely have a squad that can challenge this year and if I can help in any way, that would be fantastic.”

Wilkinson also put his hand up to feature in the Melbourne derby this weekend, as the club looks to rebound from a 1-2 loss to Newcastle.

“I want to be involved straight away,” he said.

“I’m very excited to be down here and I have my short term future sorted so the sooner the better for me.

Wilkinson added: “I’ve watched a lot of the derbies on TV. I’ve never been to one live so it’d be a huge game to be involved in and a very important game for us. Obviously it’d be great to get a win and if I could be involved in it, it would be fantastic.

“I trained with all the boys who were not involved in the game (on Sunday) and the way they set it up, they mirrored the session to be similar to the exertion in a game so it was a reasonably tough.

"I came through it pretty well and now I’m looking forward to the session today, tomorrow and the rest of the week.”

Mariners determined to salvage season

Central Coast Mariners players and coaches have met to thrash out a plan aimed at making the last nine rounds of the competition count for something.
If the bottom-placed Mariners went on a miracle run in which they suddenly started racking up win after win and ended up challenging for a finals berth that would be the ultimate, but more realistically at this stage they aim to avoid finishing with the wooden spoon.
"We set ourselves targets this season that unfortunately we've not reached in terms of points on the board," Central Coast captain Nick Montgomery told The World Game.
"But with nine games to go we've had a meeting and just sort of said 'look, we're realistic in terms of where we can finish the season, but we've just got to take it game by game starting with Adelaide on Sunday and start putting some points on the board and catching those teams above us'.
"We haven't really set any points targets from here, but obviously we've got pride in not wanting to finish bottom of the league so that should be enough for any player to motivate himself to put in good performances and cut out the mistakes that have led to us conceding goals every week.
"Stranger things have happened than making the finals from here and if we started winning games back-to-back all of a sudden things would change and we'd look at it then, but it's really about fixing a few things for us right now and improving our results off the back of that.
"We want to get off the bottom of the table for a start and what happens after that happens. Nine game is a lot of points to play for."
Central Coast are on 12 points, four behind ninth-placed Wellington Phoenix and 15 behind sixth-placed Adelaide United. The Mariners will play Adelaide at Central Coast Stadium on Sunday.
After a very competitive 2-1 loss at home to league leaders Western Sydney Wanderers followed by a 3-1 away win over Wellington, Central Coast lost 4-0 on the road to second-placed Brisbane Roar last weekend.
Montgomery said that at the meeting he and the other senior players, including marquee signing Luis Garcia and veteran defender Josh Rose, had talked about the need to work better as a unit in an attempt to tighten up the defence.
"The communication at the back needs to improve," he said.
"We sort of gave Brisbane two goals in the first half and the main thing we said to the young boys going into the last nine games was 'you're young, you're inexperienced, you're quiet and we need to start talking and communicating more'.
"If we can do that better and help each other out on the pitch I've got no doubt we can beat any team in the league.
"We knew this was going to be a transition season, with the new playing style and having a young team and giving them experience. It's tough when you're losing games, but looking ahead a lot of the young boys have learned a lot from the experience this year.
"It's probably experience they wouldn't have had in any other team in the A-League because they've been playing week in, week out here and they wouldn't have had that with teams like Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory, who have got all the marquees and the money."
Montgomery said he was convinced Mariners wouldn't drop their bundle and fade out badly during the closing rounds.
"No, no chance, we've got a lot of young lads, but they're hungry lads, they want to learn and want to improve and don't like losing games," he said. "We don't want to finish bottom of the league and look at each other and think 'we could have done this, or we should've done that'.
"We're good enough to be further up the table, in my opinion, but we are where we are because we've conceded goals too easily and that's been the problem all season."

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
The last 2 weeks sbs haven't mentioned us once in the wrap up, BUT, they gave Melbourne Knights and a potential hal second division ( which is a great idea) 20 fkn minutes

Not sure where to put this because they're not really "conquering the world" so I'll guess I'll leave it here. Eddie Bosnar is apparently with Sydney United 58 and Justin Pasfield has joined the Wollongong Wolves both appear to have signed till the end of their respective seasons.

Your common sense prevails ...... Eddie Bosnar is definitely 'not worthy of a thread' ;)

Ahhhh brother's in arms, with Coach Mark 'double-up' Rudan & his brother-in-law Bosnar. :p

Rudan's desperate to get out of the State Leagues and land a gig in the A-League. With that in mind and him being a hard task master, can't see Bosnar being given a free pass when it comes to results.

Rudan finished poorly last season with Sydney United, despite winning the Championship with them the season before that qualified them for the FFA Cup for a second year in a row, he didnt fare well in that comp either.

Would of left a bad taste in his mouth knowing the year prior his Syd.Untd. side had nearly knocked-out SydFC in that years FFA Cup semi-final.

He'll be looking for nothing less than a Grand Final & a trophy at the end of this coming NSW.NPL season.

He thinks it will be his Golden Ticket.

We're apparently (according to Fox Sports pre game coverage) having trouble negotiating for Central Coast Stadium for ten years. Considering we're the only tenant and Lawrie McKenna is on the council how is this possible?

We only just signed a 3 year deal with them?

EDIT: Negotiations (if they are even taking place) are probably set aside while the whole Gosford-Wyong merger happens anyway?
