I'd say there's a lot less risk with Trifiro.
Flores can do nice things, but...
- he's coming off a knee reconstruction
- he was never a 90 minute player in his time with us
- the end product was sorely lacking - 3 goals and an assist in 862 minutes isn't what you'd expect from a former Johnny Warren medallist
His previous few seasons aren't a great look either - he wasn't setting the world alight at Melbourne and lost his spot in the team, he couldn't hold his spot in the lineup at Liaoning Whowin, so his last *good* season was in 2010/11. (source:
Transfermarkt). Given he's 28 but hasn't had a good year in more than three seasons, that's a high risk proposition.
It's not enough that he's cheap - we've got limited squad spots, so even if he came for free, we still have to use a spot for him that blocks out another player. Only so many spots can go to midfielders, so hard-headed decisions have to be made.
With any hard decision, there's always the chance that you're wrong (otherwise we'd call them easy decisions!) but I think they got this one right.
