ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I imagine such arguments being made in the last IR

"not everybody uses trains, cars aren't for everyone. Oh, I think there is a place for gas lighting"

Etc etc

As Mr Bragg said. here comes the future, you can't run from it

Don't be daft.

By the same logic we'd have stopped making radios as soon as the TV was invented, nobody would need post boxes because we've got email and we'll never build a new office tower because cloud computing is here and everyone will work from home.

If *nothing* was going to happen over then net and everything would have to happen in an office, you'd have a point, but you can bet large sums that they'll have similar levels of online services to other government services.

Or does the current crop come from a different neck of the woods and lack the courage to make big hard calls...

I think we've entered into a major paradigm shift where actions of the past don't make sense anymore and there's no instruction manual for the next 10, 20 or 40 years. A time when these mindless, selfish morons sense of entitlement will be questioned.
I feel that governments, business and the general public will be lost in the wilderness until a true leader emerges. The man or woman with the courage to make the big hard calls. Might take few more years before we meet this person.

The cash for votes money grab from both sides exposed the true character of both potential leaders for me.
Selfish cowards!

Using Dibo's comment to ask a question, rather than enter the debate about building a head office or whatever is being built for the NBN...

My three sons and their friends are all very much into IT , net and everything new... they tell me its phone and tablet technology is the future..... I wonder aloud if a cable network is all that it's cracked up to be....

Was at software update presentation of the software I use and was gobbed smacked about how Phone, Tablet and the cloud are today IMO more powerful than my lap / desk top... what had my jaw drop was if at a clients place you could with your phone take a picture of a document [say an insurance invoice] sent it to your business kept in the cloud and the software would post the invoice ... and I tho Fark Me Dead ...

If my practice was a little bigger I would buy the new software its about twice the cost of the putting it on your lap top or personal computer... my guess it will within a couple of years drop to the cost of the lap / desk tops ... Just as a guide my software costs close to $ 3, 000 each year and to move to phone, tablet, cloud is just over $ 5, 000.00 ...

Not sure how the phone and tablet work however they are certainly not connected to a cable or phone line and from what I can see is where we are heading... BTW I use systems and am no way an expert on discussing the various technologies ... however from a simple user I will be headings towards the phone tablet in my next general update in about two years ...

Just asking is the NBN the right call or is cable yesterdays technology ... as I said I am a user and I will be moving to phone, tablet and cloud technology its just makes my life much easier and is much more flexible..

FTTH provides the backbone for your network - in most homes and offices you'll be using a wireless network hooked up to a hard connection. Wireless makes sense in the micro scale (homes and offices), not the macro (where there are range, weather and interference issues). My office is all wirelessly networked (with the exception of our server and printer), but the wireless network is allowing access to a hardwired connection.

So short answer is wireless devices are great, but your backbone will still be cable.

Has anyone read the book 2052, "A global forecast for the next 40 years"
As the author suggests it's not a finite prediction but the topics and forecasts are very interesting.
Capitalism, Economic growth, Democracy, Intergenerational equity and our relationship with the environment are his key topics for change.
We're entering into the twilight years of the industrial revolution and entering the sustainability revolution, the end of capitalism and economic growth.
The war of intergenerational equity where the younger generations express their dissatisfaction with carrying the burden of the older generation..hmmm!
And the climate is fooked. Too late to reverse but the impact can be reduced with some smart leadership. o_O
And population growth will peak and start to decline. Unsustainability is unsustainable. Go figure! o_O

I worked for Alcatel in 1988 when we released this fibre technology. Glad to see it's being implemented for uses other than long distance phone lines. ;)
Your 100% correct it is the backbone where wireless gives accessibility.

i have no doubt the nbn will be revered in 30 years time .
as dibo said the tablet i have is ok ,amusing. but its for household network use.
large data is far quicker on fibre and is immune from atmospheric nosie.
tech like cloud is just server tech and software application.

Lots of media talk of a "Rudd the Dude" comeback ... any tho's as to will it happen and is it a good idea ... or should Blinky Bill just take over now...

Cruel I know but a mate sent me this on the weekend ... maybe the Hunter reds or the extra days holiday got to him .... he is a in his early 50's and has been a member of the ALP most of his life.... anyway he sent me the following youtube and says its how he feels... so being cruel here we go.... you kinda gotta listen to the chorus for the cruel part ... if you want to jump to the chorus about 1.49 is the fist time it is sung... and at 3.30 to 4:00 is the part he said he feels like after the weekend...

If you were an MP likely to survive the coming apocalypse, you would be better to leave her in place, distance yourself from her and hope to be part of the rebuilding.

Only an idiot would work to get themselves voted Captain of the Titanic AFTER it had hit the iceberg

Does anyone think Julia will still be PM in two weeks... my pick Bob Carr not Rudd the dud ....
You know Carr is in the Senate, right? He'd have to be in the lower house to be PM; do you think he's going to roll someone and force a by-election less than 100 days before a general election?
