The link does work now and confirmed what I said -- Pro-Labor site masquerading as 'independent'. Do you really think we are that gullible?

Try another Independent site then ,Crikey.com maybe.I`m not trying to pull the wool over anyones eyes,I`m just trying to open them to the real worl & not the mainstream media.

If you want all Liberal crap try THE BOLT REPORT or just listen to HADLEY & JONES I really don`t care.

I just won`t be wasting my vote in support of someone that supports a paedophile priest over a child abuse victim.
If it`s your choice to do so then.....so be it.

Thanks style_cafe, but believe it or not I only get my info from 2 sources at present. SMH and ABC News radio. I'm not a Liberal supporter, and have never listened to or read Bolt, Hadley or Jones. I'm merely a cynic and a closet anarchist, and sceptical of anyone providing me links because I'm pretty sure they would have been cherry-picked to suit an agenda. Call me a troll if you like.

Hasbeen, I respect your position.
We can have a chat when it comes out in the news sometime in the future.

Clive ... any tho's on what effect his standing for PM will do....

Big Clive's just twisting the knife a little.
As a representative of the mining industry he's just reminding both parties of the role they play in the economy.
He was probably a bully on the play ground too. You can't take his campaign too seriously.

Just got through listening to the Asst. Treasurer David Bradbury being interviewed on ABC News Radio by Marius Benson. He answered every question with a "I'm not going to speculate, I'm not going down that path .... ". He even said at one point that if Benson didn't stop asking him this line of questioning he would refuse future interviews. This followed a similar less than glorious interview yesterday on the same station with Greg Combet, who also refused to answer any of the questions directly and instead chose to trot out the worn-out party line on "jobs and growth". When the ABC is getting on your case Labor, you know you are in real trouble. The ALP - welcome to the party of obfuscation.

Well done, you just proved my point. Every Labor-ite answers a question with a question or a deflecton to Tony Abbott .

Nothing has changed in six years. Bon Chance in September.

Thank you for proving my point and referring immediately to Tony Abbott.
By the way did you hear the interview on ABC News Radio this morning with the Immigration Minister Brendan O'Connor on his claims of 10,000 rorting the 457 visas?

yes, it goes with your claim of "not being a liberal voter" have a back bone first if you wunna throw stones.
so your big claim about "top secret labor" is based on a treasury minister not giving up the budget 2 weeks before it's due. yeah like thats hasn't happened since federation.

"so your big claim about "top secret labor" "

You lost me there. When did I make that claim? And I will spell it out for you again ... I have NEVER voted Liberal in my life. Oh and of course, what do you make of O'Connor's latest little episode on the 457 visas? Do some research before you answer, it always helps to have the facts rather than the latest drivel from Party HQ.

Not memory, but comprehending your obtuse references. As I said, let's see your take on O'Connor's interview this morning on the ABC.

457 visas should be banned as there back door options for
cheap slave labor .just like the foreign mining companies want .
tony will we be tugging the forelock for that.

my favorite from your conservative hero's is scott Morrison’s wanting to
mark refuges in australia .

something like this i suppose

Refuges? Oh and by the way isn't McTernan on a 457 ? At least he'll be on his bike come September. Do you have an answer for O'Connor's scaremongering on the 10,000 illegal 457's he spouted, only to be shot down by his own department?

457 visas are for back door slave labor. i've said that.
do you work for a labor hire company? emplying 10,000 chinese "consultants"
welding pipe.
i guess you don't wunna touch scotties plan either, very liberal of you.

Really? From today's SMH ...
"as a newly released government document suggested verified cases of employers discriminating in favour of overseas workers were rare."
And McTernan is neither a back door slave nor is he a Chinese consultant, but don't let that stop your Labor Party HQ dog-whistling.

457s are fine *if* used for the purpose for which they are designed - to alleviate short-term skills shortages.

There are heaps of financial, IT and other folks on 457s (my sister's partner for one) who are alleviating skills shortages etc.

It's the horror stories that are the problem.

The workers told they won't be doing skilled labour, they'll be doing menial work.

They can have their statutory minimum salary, but and they won't be able to keep the lot, they'll have to pay half back to the boss to cover costs of food and accommodation (when they're sleeping 6 to a room in a leaky hut eating only rice).

They can complain if they like, but they'll be fired and given that their visa is dependent on their employer's continued sponsorship they'll be on the plane back home by the time there's any chance to do something about it.

These are the extremes, but I can tell you that in a previous job I read some horror stories, including stories where workers were underpaid *and* some workers were working in unsafe conditions and were injured on the job but scared to complain because their visas were threatened.

This can be easily dealt with by ensuring that workers on 457s are being paid appropriately and that they're filling genuine skill shortages. If that's the case (and for legitimate users, it means ticking a few more boxes on a form and submitting to occasional checks of records) then 457s are a perfectly legitimate and very useful tool to address a problem.

Over the longer term, the solution is better training of our workforce to alleviate skills shortages through the development of a skilled domestic workforce.
