Anyone know who else is trialling in the next week or two? I assume one is McGlichley? Maybe Trundle is another?

They trained at Bluetongue today. Not sure about tomorrow or friday, but Bluey would be my guess for tomorrow again.

Nicky Travis is a player we've seen quite a lot playing for the youth and reserve sides and he's been reserve team captain in the past. The thing that lets him down is his temperament... he can be a bit feisty at times with an awful lot of back chat to the officials that he could do with calming down if he's to ever go a long way in the game. He's come through the same system as Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton... the players we're looking to flog to Everton for 11 million. You're guaranteed a youngster who's confident on the ball and not scared to get involved.

I wouldnt worry to much if he is small. If he has the quality he should shine through. He will play the attacking mid role and with 2 large strikers up front with him it might just suit us having a small, quick creative midfielder in behind.
Will have to wait to see the quality he has but has some pedigree.

I was reading the description of wang dong being a "box to box midfielder" and realised that is exactly what we need - someone who has a massive workrate and gets involved in both distribution and defence and pops up with the odd goal.

Hopefully one or two of the new signings could fill this role.

Wang Dong has to be the funniest name in world football, he looked a decent player for the Chinese NT though so scum may have done well to get him.

McGlinchey's Creative Hope For Mariners
Jul 16 2009 22:57

EXCLUSIVE: Michael McGlinchey is tantalisingly close to a contract with Central Coast Mariners and the former Celtic midfielder is confident he can provide the creative x-factor in the centre of the park.
To see the latest training session...

The 22-year-old will be handed his first start for the club against Gold Coast United this weekend and having already made a good impression, a positive performance might well seal the deal.

New Zealand-born McGlinchey was released by Scottish giants Celtic at the end of last season, having first arrived at the club as a nine-year-old and then signed a professional contract at 16.

A first team debut in a testimonial against Wycombe Wanderers, aged just 15, suggested a rosy future at Celtic Park but it never quite happened and he's now relishing a fresh start Down Under.

Speaking exclusively to au.fourfourtwo.com after training, the youngster said: "I was in and about the first team squad at Celtic before kind of falling out of it. I just want to play first team football and hopefully I can do it here.

"There's life after Celtic and I'm going to give it my best shot."

McGlinchey certainly doesn't believe his years at Celtic Park were wasted and admits it provided him with a tremendous footballing education. He's now eager to help use that education to help the Mariners.

"I've worked and trained with some very good players. I have a good understanding of the game. I think I can bring some creativity to the team, good movement, stuff like that," he said.

Celtic are no strangers to Australians with McGlinchey well aware of the impact made by both Mark Viduka and Scott McDonald at the Glasgow giants.

"Unfortunately I didn't get to speak to Scott about coming to Australia because I left Celtic at the end of May and this chance only came up in June," he said.

"But both Scott and Mark Viduka were/are two great players for the club. Hopefully I can do the same over here."

McGlinchey admits it is nice to hear a couple of Scottish accents around the club though and says his potential new boss has gone out of his way to make him feel at home.

He added: "The gaffer showed me the stadium on the first day and took me to his house for a meal. I've been made to feel very welcome.

"Now it's about preparing for and looking forward to the match at the Gold Coast, my first game and I'll be out to impress Lawrie and do all I can."

Mariners boss McKinna is very happy with McGlinchey's progress so far, a player who came highly recommended by the manager's contacts in Scotland.

"In the three days he's trained, he has been very tidy on the ball," said McKinna. "He's good with both feet. He's different from what we've got.

"He has a good pedigree and if we we sign him then I'm confident he'll fit in well with this club and its ethics. Hopefully it works out for him."

What time?

Sorry Sean they trained at Knox today.
I heard council is only letting them train once per week at Bluey now apparently.
And I thought local comps were being hard done by with all the closures? If the mariners cant get a run on the coast then this is getting a little silly isn't it?  Can't say for sure whether it may be a north shore promotion thing or just something else behind it... But the whispers I'm hearing are that council is being difficult.

Wales greatly impressed, so unless the new trialists out gun him or something unforeseen looks like he will be brought into the squad.

Korean gone. No surprises to anyone there.

Nicky Travis is a goer too apparently and I heard he is very likely to be signed.
I love that Blades report on him!!! Well done Scottmac. A confident attacking mid on the ball is just what we need. And attitude works for me. Between him and Doig it's a welcome hit of tude to the team.

Now McGinchley is looking promising too...

D'Mac is apparently 100% pretty much.

Matty will play at Skilled Park against Gold Coast.

It's all coming together!

Go you yellow! Lets be the first to take out Gold Coast.
:vhappy: :vhappy: :vhappy:

Also read tonight that Osman amongst others deliberately infected himself with swine flu to avoid playing us. The lengths people will go to!
