He can be a d***head but not usually

real useufl post eh?
:p

My input: I saw very little of him when i was at school, but some of the guys in my year (think the likes of Gibbsy, Razza etc. to you marinators) absoolutely loved the year 7 Joe Gibbs...
I personally didnt rate him, and I thought he was overrated then...but I havent seen him play for 4 years...so doesnt really count

according to my sister Joe Gibbs has broken his leg and is in a cast...unlucky

finally retired

SFC's junior injury curse strikes again.

Genuinely sorry for the kid if true, wouldnt wish that on anyone not called Griffiths.

Can anyone confirm?

Dear me,

On four four two, after the article about Mc Ginshley coming to trial, a guy called Heini in the comments got confused and started blabbing about Michael Mifsud's record.

"Somehow, Heini has got McGlinchley mixed up with Maltese striker Michael Mifsud."

If he's coming, he'll undoubtedly be on the plane next to Viduka and Carney being served drinks by Caniggia.

Not so,

Viduka, Carney & Caniggia were all being served drinks by one G. Arnold. Misfud was eating peanuts in the row behind.

Bloody hell.

Wiki lists Michael Mifsud as playing for the mariners! what a complete balls up.

What's happening with Matthew Lewis? Not with the Youth team, not with the first team?

It appears neither at this stage.

Lawrie wants him to continue playing NSWPL which he believes is a higher standard than NYL. We will probably know at the end of the NSWPL season.

Mariners roll out welcome Matt for Lewis
Wednesday, 22 July 2009 by Glen Lauder

Central Coast Mariners / John Dewberry Central Coast Mariners The Central Coast Mariners have boosted their playing roster for the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 season, with the signing of gun teenager Matthew Lewis to a one-year deal.

The Blacktown City junior played a starring role in the Mariners inaugural National Youth League campaign, before being added to the senior squad for the Asian Champions League campaign.

"He came in last year and was a bit quiet at the beginning, but as the season went on he got better and better, so we included him in the ACL squad and he improved out of sight," said Mariners Football Manager Lawrie McKinna.

"He went back to his club Blacktown, and has been outstanding for them. Hes scored quite a few goals and he deserves his chance.

"He made his A-League debut last season, and hopefully hes got a few games in him this year," McKinna said.

A pacy left midfielder, Lewis joined up with Blacktown City in Under 11s after beginning his career at Parklea juniors, quickly progressing through the ranks at the Demons, and led the Australian Schoolboys to Japan only last year.

"Its a big relief, and its very exciting," said Lewis.

"Its great to get back training with the boys, and obviously it is great to have the experience of training with these guys, hopefully (this season) will be good.

"It was good to get to know the boys (during the Asian Champions League campaign), Alex (Tobin) was a great coach with the youth last season, and its great hes with the first team now, because that will be a great influence.

"I just want to keep going well, hopefully Ill get a bit of game time, and get the chance to prove myself," said Lewis.

The 19 year old came on as a late substitute in the Mariners final regular match of last years Hyundai A-League, before returning to Blacktown to gain valuable experience, at the same time linking up with his Mariners teammate Adam Kwasnik.

"Hes been playing against men week in week out. Blacktown has a very young squad, and by no means top of the league, theyre in there scrapping and week in week out hes been one of their better players.

"(Blacktown head coach) Ken Schembri gave him a good rap every time I spoke to him about it, so he deserves it. Hes hung in there, he came in one day last week and for his first training session, he was outstanding, so now weve got him under contract, but hell play the next few weeks at Blacktown to help them.

"Hes left footer, a wide left attacking player. Theres a shortage of lefties, especially good ones, so its a great opportunity for Matty to come on and show what he can do," said McKinna.

Lewis will fill an Under 21s spot in the Mariners squad for the upcoming season, with McKinna aiming to further strengthen his squad, before round one, against Melbourne Victory at Etihad Stadium on August 6.

"Weve got 20 players now, still three players to bring in, and Ill probably look at at least two, I think well leave a spot up our sleeve. Michael McGlinchey is looking good at the moment so, well see how he goes this week, but I think hed be a great acquisition to the squad," said McKinna.

Cheap squad filler with good potential. Expect to see him play majority NYL.

I'm a little surprised they didn't just leave him in NYL and play him up when needed. Is he too old? But then again, we needed the U/21 spot filled, so I supposed there was not any better options.

+ the fact NYL = peanuts
would he be content playing for peanuts?
+ this now sort of gives a good rap for our youth academy...a pathway
eg. potential NYL players could be the 'next Lewis', and breakthrough to senior squad with a contract!
all good IMO
+ already stated fact- u21s spot!

Could this work I recall reading that Huke  could play in central defense and as a defensive Mid If we sign Michael McGlinchey and given we have Nicky Travis Could we have Huke & Doig as our central defenders and Travis & McGinchey in centre mid with Wilko as a right back

Meaning the central spine of the side is all new ...

For mine, Wilko's best position is right back easily but I'm more than happy for him to be a CD with Doig this season. I expect him to back bounce from 08/09 and have a big season. He's just too good a player not to.

Sonic is great going forward but struggles badly defending. Boogs is a hugely talented young player but this is the season he really needs to step up if he's going to go places. It's time for him to start realising his potential.

Do you think Wilko will keep the arm band or will it go to Doig...

If Doig shouts and organises the defence as some on here have described during the pre season he should be captain.

Freeing Wilko of that responsibility might help his game.I've never thought he was entirely comfortable in the role tbh.
