Lawrie won't sign another defender, he wants midfielders or another attacker.

RB - Clark, Pedj, Porter
LB - Heff, Pedj, D'Apuzzo
CB - Doig, Wilko, Pedj, Boogs, Clark

IMO our back 4 currently would be Pedj, Wilko, Doig, Heff - however Lawrie is giving Pedj plenty of opportunity to claim the DM position.  Pedj's free kick on the weekend was class, Mrdja's was f**king woeful, we need a free kick specialist in the team without Mile here.

Heff looked ok going forward yesterday but he needs lots of work on his defending.

Doig has no fears at telling his fellow defenders what's what!

Personally I hope we get 2 midfielders, 1 at least who is attack minded, and another striker because Mrdja won't be the answer to our goal scoring if Matty get's injured.

LOL, I am REALLY looking forward to catching a game where Doig is playing. Sounds the goods by all these reports of being loud and proud in the backline! ("Spade  = a f**king shovel" sort of guy, eh?)

Thanx for the update Deej.

BTW, Deej, did you see any games that the Wales guy played? Is he and Travis possibly able to venture forward in midfield and attack - at this level of League, or were they more more defensive midfielders?

Did not get to the Sydney game to see Wales but from reports I've heard he did well, there's a chance he'll be signed but we have 3 more trialists to look at first.

Doig looked like he lacked pace but he'll be a good physical presence

I attended the SFC game and Wales did a lot of the work just in behind Mrdja, he looked keen to contribute going forward. To be honest he didn't seem like he would be capable of setting the league on fire, but he certainly did more then Mrdja.

I still hope we sign a RB ... Porter is a mid playing out of position .. Clark honest hard working but just a little old ... Pedj not quite A_league defensive standard attacks well has a reasonable pass but he is their to defend..

Sydney FC signs Central Coast junior
Monday, 13 July 2009

Another piece of Sydney FCs 2009/10 National Youth League puzzle is in place with the club securing the signature of promising Central Coast junior, Joe Gibbs.

The 17-year old attacking midfielder, who currently plays for Manly United in the NSW Premier League has signed a one year Youth team contract, and is the sixth player to join Coach, Steve OConnors squad this season.

I think Sydney is a great club. Football wise, theres more opportunity there than anywhere else I could go, said Gibbs. Sydney FC is the team you want to be in, especially at Youth Level, and also senior as well with the new coach (Vitezslav Lavicka). The culture of success at Sydney is very attractive.

Gibbss path into Sky Blue is very similar to that of senior squad member, Chris Payne. Both Central Coast teenagers came to Sydneys attention while playing for Manly and both earned the opportunity to trial in England by winning the Lucas Neill Scholarship. Gibb claimed the award last season and is now looking to build his career with Sydney FC.

Im injured at the moment so first I want to recover from that, but I just want to impress as much as I can. I just want to keep playing football and playing well, thats the main thing, he explained.

Its a very professional setup at Sydney, with the style the new coach (Lavicka) has brought to the club, and getting a foot in the door through the Youth team is a great opportunity.

Obviously didn't fit into our no dickhead policy.

With comments like that he will fit in well at Sydney.

Couldn't agree more. SFC would be way down my A League list of the best club to join as a junior.

i dunno, their kids get a run in the first team from time to time, and they won the national championship.

Funny how there are no headlines of Sydney based youngsters join Central Coast - thought quite a few of our team last year were from Sydney?
Still, this season 5 of Sydney's team were part of last year's NYL squad - how many will we have? One so far...

The day Elrich shows he has pace and can beat a man out wide is the day when I will believe we can win the comp.

I don't care who McLinchey was with as a junior - didn't Rizzo join Liverpool? Wasn't McMaster with Leeds? Let's see how good he really is

And didn't I see that we may be after Lee Trundle? Now, he has skill and he has personality and he would put bums on seats (check out YouTube) and he's younger than Carniggia

Double Chance for McGlinchey

CENTRAL Coast Mariners trialist Michael McGlinchey has arrived Down Under to boost his club career but may yet find the door swinging open to a shot at the World Cup.

The former Celtic youngster will spend the next fortnight trying to convince the Gosford outfit that he would be a worthy addition to the squad but it isn't just Lawrie McKinna who is keeping a close watch on his progress.

McGlinchey may have played his club football in Scotland and also represented the Scots at youth level but the 22-year-old was born in Wellington.

Under recently amended FIFA rules, it means he could yet play for Ricki Herbert's All Whites.  Previously, players who had represented one country at youth level had to make the choice to change nationality by the age of 21. That has now changed with the age restriction removed.

although his quote does make him seem a bit of a dickhead, I asked my brother who goes to school with him and he reckons hes a pretty nice guy

he went over to england to trial with Blackburn West Ham and someone else last year on Manly United's Lucas Niell scholarship thing so the kid can definately play

Trialing with those clubs doesn't mean he can play..just means he was judged to be better then his manly united teammates

according to my sis... (gibbs is in some of her classes)

He can be a d***head but not usually

real useufl post eh?
:p

My input: I saw very little of him when i was at school, but some of the guys in my year (think the likes of Gibbsy, Razza etc. to you marinators) absoolutely loved the year 7 Joe Gibbs...
I personally didnt rate him, and I thought he was overrated then...but I havent seen him play for 4 years...so doesnt really count

We could be a true international squad .. with the Malta Falcon and now a Sheep Shagger  (well not yet and he hasn't even signed yet ... but never let the truth get in the way of a good lie)

+1

Long live El Kareemo. May his ethnic flair on the field be a shining beacon to those who dismiss Johnny Foreigner. :p
