Doig and Travis could turn out to be diamonds.

Asked three different friends (football nuts) of mine living in the UK at the moment about Doig - the kindest response I got was "utter f*cking shite".  For the sake of our defence, I sincerely hope they're wrong....
How do they rate Huke? What they may class as utter shite may just carve up this league.

Just asked now, will let you know when they reply.
They're probably all glory hunters who follow Man U and think anything else is shite... :p

Bwahahaha, if only - one of them follows Barnsley, he knows shit when he sees it.  ;)

That's ok then......at least we're getting the opinion of experts! ;)

And when you head over there I presume you'll do the right thing and follow your "local" team.......

No I look nothing like james :p

Our little club doesn't have the money to be making big signings, our club will get good players at reasonable salary and continue to do well. If you know any billionaires that want a stake in our club and willing to splash the cash on Cullina or a similar player get them involved. If not chill and accept we will get what we can afford and not make costly mistakes on failed marquees.

One thing Lawrie does really well is build a team with a relatively low budget. The players he will bring in will be right for the team and although there are no big names the squad will be a good, solid one.

One thing that is interesting with this current squad, you can pick what would be your starting 11 and then pick a 2nd 11...and there's not much between them.

The potential second XI is actually not a bad team though a bit lightweight in defence.

Nash/Redmayne

Porter       Clark Boogs D'Appuzzo

        Pedj Hutch
Elrich                 Caceres

              Dyl Mrdja

With a possible 3 new signings to go (though not necessarily likely) a starting XI could be

Danny

Wilko       Travis Doig Heff

          Huke Creative Midfielder
Right Midfield                   Kwas

        Striker Simon

On the face of it a much stronger side defensively than last season with the potential with appropriate signings to be better in attack too. Elrich if he can come back from injury well may be the right midfielder.

hate to burst your bubble but surely the majority (ie. at least 2) of the 3 signings would most likely be '2nd team'
I mean, I honestly would like to sign 3 players to walk onto our starting team if they were good quality etc.
But...striker- most likely of 3 positions you mentioned that we will sign.
But which striker the Serbian guy?  We are also looking Gary Wales (i dont feel good about him...)

RM- have no idea what coin Elrich is on, but surely top 3 paid players in squad (along with Mrdja, and ?). He is an ex-marquee, ex-socceroo. + I doubt a RM is on our list of players to get...
NB: not saying his salary justifies his start (look at Mrdja case :p), but just my thoughts about the situation (and with no RM signing, Elrich would be the starting RM???)

Creative Midfielder- hmmmm....I would love this to happen but I am sceptical...What are our options again? Griffiths? Other Serbian guy?
If you want creative, i suppose you want the Serbian over Griffiths?

Huke may show a few people up next season - mark my words

Trouble is LM keeps playing him out of position.
I think he already has it in his mind that he wouldn't mind playing him at RB ala Osman.

Happy to be corrected but didn't Lawrie play him there in 1 trial game? Rest of the time he's been CM?

I don't think Travis will be used as a CB, I think we can safely assume whether you agree or not that Wilko and Doig will be our first choice CB's.

We're looking primarily for an attacking midfielder, this is where our weakest link is, another striker is also a possibility.

There's no way we'll sign another RM IMO when we have Elrich, Kwas and Porter who can all play there comfortably.

hmmmm...i would like to see Pedj get another go at RB...failing that yes, a RB would be a better signing IMO than a RM!

Druboy - only one of the people I asked had heard of Huke, said he was "eh, alright, gets the job done".

Fits in with what we've seen thus far.  :)

Kwas starting at LM before Caceras, not to sure about that one.

Kwas has no left foot...and surely Elrich starts at RM!
I'm looking forward seeing how Lawrie plays Travis... he sounds like a versatile player.

Kwas has no left foot...

? scored a good goal vs Pohang with his left? Played left midfield all of V3? Scored 6 goals from LM in V3? Scored a few pens with his left too!

Caceres or Kwas on the left I'd be happy, providing it was 1 of their good games.

lol
2 things
Kwas can score with his left on occasion
but the funny thing is. Which really annoys me, in Fifa09 Kwassie is left footed!
Arrrghhh
