Oh too true that they are three of our better players....but....

looking at the situation from the os club's perspectives, they have the CVs of the players, the videos, the word around town about the A-League, all to go by.

I would guess that Heff's attempt to get an os gig in Nurnberg and the end result, will weigh heavily against him should an os club of similar level of competition take a look at him.

Then taking a look at what he has done since returning from his leg break, and the season he had last season, and I bet people could see that he was not getting the free runs down the sideline that he got in the first season of the A-League and the reason is probably twofold.
1) they've worked him out a fair bit, and
2) the opposing teams were that much stronger & he had to spend more time and energy defending and did not have energy to hike down field as fast.

In Danny's case, there would be a goalkeeping coach for an os club seeing his potential but also realising his age and also the transgressions he has incurred at A-League level and wondering if he is worth the risk at a higher level of Football, where the pressure to perform is greater. There may be prudent goalkeeping coaches advising clubs to keep an eye of Danny but best to wait a few more years at A-League level and see how he has performed then and what his temperament is like as he ages. The set pieces disasters also would impact upon an assessment of Danny too.

I'd also suspect that the player's market has taken a hammering as a result of the 'GFC' & that many clubs may be more introspective in their search for new players than venturing as far afield as Australia.

I don't want any of them to leave but if they do, they do. Perth are apparently chasing Recoba and may have already signed Jacob Burns; Robbie Fowler and Jason Cullina will grace the A League next season whilst as a part of reviewing our playing staff and refreshing the squad we have apparently offered terms to Nick Travis (Sheff Utd) and are still showing interest in New Caledonian national team captain Pierre Wajoka...

hmmm. I haven't seen Pierre Wajoka, so I don't want to write him off just yet, but surely we can aim a little higher than that. I just did a wikipedia look at him and he is 30yrs old and hasn't been out of the New Caledonian league... I didn't even know the country had a big enough population to have an entire league!

Times are tough...

Its easy, just make a youtube video of all the good bits and offers will be streaming in.

Midfielder Tugay is set to retire from football with Blackburn unlikely to extend the 38-year-old's contract beyond the end of the season. Blackburn fans have set up a petition on Facebook in recognition of his services.
What about trying to get this guy for one last season? Great player and great set pieces!

Plays well around contract renewal time, probably add some steel to the centre of the park alongside Huke if we did get him

At the end of the day a football club is about, if not winning, at least competing. We have done that well so far.

However now is the time to revisit where we are going and who can take us there. For me, given that we are not just going to tinker at the edges, there would be at least ten gone from last year.

These are:-

Nash      Doesn't push Danny
Stringers While I rate hime more than many here I think the HAL is too quick for him
Boogs See Stringers
D'Apuzzo Not HAL standard
Hutcho  May stay - only as LW or CAM
Rizzo      Only signed for the ACL
Gumps    Stills runs around - but a yard and a half slower now.
Ossie    Gone
Owens  Rumoured to the Gold Coast
Sasho Gone

With Danny and Heff also rumoured to be tempted then we need to look to shore up our defensive options.

First up we need Bozza. He will not only push Danny but will likely be first choice with some game fitness behind him. If Danny goes we don't have to scramble and can look at long term solutions.

With Norwich going down I would look to bring Carney and Leijer home. I know 'Super Dave' thinks he is brilliant. He isn't but he is HAL standard and can play from LB to LW. Leijer was great for the U23s and for Victory before that.

If Lawrie rates Nicky Travis then he could provide a CB and DM option.

Moving up the park I would like to see Oliver Bozanic back not only because he is a good player but also to help the Mariners to reconnect with the Coast. This is a guy that stood in Bay 16 in season one!! Possibly as youth marquee.

Lastly I would like to get a gun striker. This may be a marquee depending on the cap. If Matty does go we need someone that is ready made.

That leaves a squad of 20

Mark Bosnich
Andrew Redmayne
Danny Vukovic
David Carney
Dean Heffernan
Andrew Clark
Adrian Leijer
Nicky Travis
Pedj Bojic
Alex Wilkinson
Oliver Bozanic
Adrian Caceres
Shane Huke
Bradley Porter
Ahmad Elrich
Adam Kwasnik
Dylan McAllister
Nik Mrdja
Marquee or Gun Striker
Matt Simon

We still have spot available if injury comes. If we utilise the Youth Marquee and Marquee spots we will free up room under the cap. (Still have to have the money!!!)

We would also have 4 players 23 or under. Each of the outfiled replacements are comfortable on the ball and the overall squad looks a lot more even in quality. The gap between first choice and also rans is diminished and this can only be good.

Any thoughts?

yeh, my thoughts on your post is that it would be great to have a squad like that BUT realistically things won't happen like:
- boogs wont go
- hutch wont go and we should all know that by now
- i think da puzzo is still signed for next season
- carney wont come back unless desperate for football
- leijer wont come back unless he is desperate and if he does it'll more then likely be victory
- bozanic, i think is the same if he is wanting first team football, he'll come back
- TBH i would only want bozza if danny goes, i would love to have him here in a coaching capacity in the long term
- and finally i do agree that we do need a marquee or a gun striker, i personally would like to see a Attacking Midfielder.

c'mon guys i'm sick of people suggesting players that would be too expensive or unrealistic, think of players that the mariners would want, what the fans wanna see and THE MONEY THAT WE HAVE TO USE TO GET THEM, THERE IS A SALARY CAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ten people goimg being replace by six. Two of which are possible as outside the salary cap.

The point with Carney, Leijer and Bozanic is that they are all not playing regularly. Olly had to move to Woking to get game time. All up I would say it is doable.

I mentioned a few weeks back Olly Bozanic as I was surprised to see him listed with Woking FC on loan from Reading, playing Conference football.

Now surely there's not one ex pat from the UK who is going to try and convince this forum that Olly's football career is reaching stellar heights way above what the A-League can offer him , by playing Conference comp. with Woking! As Woking is possibly forking out the $$ for him, he can't be on too much biscuit with Reading.

I also understand that his contract with Reading expires this June. It will depend whether Reading want him and are prepared to offer him something better than being loaned out to a Conference club, getting hacked at, in front of maybe a packed council ground of 1500 fans in the winter slush.

May end up easier for Bozanic to return home, do a Heffernan and re start his career playing a season or two with the Mariners, I reckon.

I'm not convinced about Carney. I suspect he may have similar technical limitations as Heffernan, so he won't necessarily be an improvement on the left sided player than what we already have.

I wonder if Bozza is on eth cards and part of him playing again at State Level is for LM etc to look at him as a Danny replacement/cover.

BTW Nash is actually a V Good keeper - much better than Trotty. But we have Redders and he would learn a LOT from Bozza. My only issue with Bozza is he can not be the Marquee signing...

Would Also like to see Boogs gone - he is SLOW and his attitude recently (see 4th Goal by Kawasaki at BT) shows everything that is wrong with our Football. He never chased, he is slow and to be honest I feel we could/should do much better

If andReading make it back to the EPL, bozanic wont be needed IMHO (they are called andReading as they usually all support 1 of the big 4 and Reading).

Agree, HAL is probably a lot better than woking as they have just been relegated and are now in the 6th tier of English football. Time for him to come back, get regular game time and maybe go again in a few years (a la Jedi) perhaps?

Carney wont come back and by all accounts, Princess has gone backwards at 100 mph since the Olympics disaster
