Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I agree, inexplicably only played 20 minutes, but was clearly our best. A Gumprecht like cameo. Speaking of whom????

gumprecht was out injured and caceras missed two days of training in the last week due to sickness

finally retired

as soon as he came on we looked far more attacking and seemed to spark the rest of the team.  I was surprised Mrdja wasn't taken off sooner....he never really got into the game.

According to TWG, we are in talks with chippers, as are scum, but he is likely to stay in basel if they offer the right cash

Saw an article from North Fury saying that they've dropped plans to continue negotiations with Chippers - as soon as they found out that the Jets were also involved. Good one Chippers, you shot yourself in the foot there by shopping yourself around.

How long is he going to use the lame excuse about opportunities for his missus to study etc. before every A-League club tires of his bartering? Make a decision on who to play for, or f**k off back to Basel.

Couldn't care less about Chippers to be honest.
Would prefer a more attacking player.
46 goals in 208 appearances from midfield.
Pretty attacking if you ask me

Bloody hell, what's with the vitriol? He's hardly whoring himself around to every HAL club. Maybe there's just a slight chance a player of his calibre will attract enquiries from every club once they get wind of a possibilty he's coming back.

Sounds like he's staying in Europe anyway which is what he should do until after the WC. Last thing we need is a key NT player without a club four months prior to South Africa.

Why didn't we chase Robbie Fowler. His name has been bandied around before and we all know now he was serious. I mean, fair dinkum, Townsville or Gosford, it's a no brainer. I hope he likes Rednecks and humidity!

Yes.
Both teams came close to scoring a few times in the final minutes.

Being from Liverpool he will have no problem with either, the rednecks will probably seem civilised and for someone used to hanging out in dodgey hot night clubs in his shell suit he won't even notice the humidity.

I hope Lawrie and co' are still keeping a look at the NSWPL because a few imports and youngsters are really starting to shine.

Marconi:

Kader Toure - Ivory Coast: The best way to describe him would be a good version of Kofi Danning. He's a strong and fast attacking left midfielder who can whip in a dangerous ball, especially on the counter attack. Marconi's other import, Iraqi Ali Abbas has taken all the hype, but I think Toure is actually the better footballer.

Ali Abbas - Iraq: Small (actually considerably small by Australian standards) but deceitfully nippy attacking midfielder/striker. He has potential, but lost the ball too easily in a physical confrontation for my liking in the game that I saw him. Nevertheless, Abbas could be a handy weapon off the bench if a game needed an injection of life. He also has invaluable experience from his Asian Cup success.

Bankstown:

Salameh Hussein - Lebanon: Hussein, a striker, is a Lebanon U/20 international. What he lacks in height he more than makes up in skill. I would go as far as saying that on the ball, Australian domestic football has not seen anybody in this mould since Nick Carle. If we wanted a big-man/little-man combination, Hussein can provide that. For a man of his size, Hussein has a powerful shot and holds up the ball extremely well.

Sutherland:

Panny Nikas - Aussie: Panny should be someone we look at for our youth team. He's a box to box type midfielder who can score goals and has good distribution. Under a more professional environment, Nikas could turn into a decent footballer.

If you were looking for a Marquee (or v expensive player really) you could do worse than pick from either

Kanu (due to be released by Pompey, rumoured to be off to the middle east)
Darren Huckerby (released by Norwich and rumoured to be off to the US)
Burnley strike Ade Akinbiyi is wanted by Houston Dynamo

Not world beaters I agree but would easily do a job in the HAL.

His record of scoring goals says otherwise
